To think skin colour matters WAY more than people like to admit

I am involved in marketing campaigns - I won't say what because it's outing but let's say I recently worked on a campaign where the service being provided had absolutely nothing to do with race (so it wasn't makeup or hair for example).

Yet the vast majority that responded were people of colour (Same as the person featured in the ad) and it made me think how much your life chances are still dictated by your skin colour.

People like to consider race more than they like to admit even in spaces where it has nothing to do with anything, people just seem to feel more 'comfortable' with their own.

I felt for the first time in a long time my success will in part depend on my skin colour because for whatever reason the majority of white people that saw this ad decided it wasn't for them on the basis I'm someone of colour.

Please no arguments I'm looking for a mature conversation and if you find the topic sensitive you need not respond

Just looking for others experiences really

I'm sorry but your OP is not clear. Are you the model in the campaign or a marketing creative?

If the latter, you've most likely lost your client a vast amount of money as your lack of judgment resulted in only 3% of the population responding to the ad (as I presume your target audience was UK consumers). Not impressive or good for your career progression.

If the former, I'm not sure what your point is. It's not mandatory to accept any marketing messages or embrace the messages when one doesn't feel like it.

I'd even go so far as to say that wanting racial equality is not something many people actually want

Do you want equality or not? Should we all be equal or not?

It's difficult to tell due to the upset expressed by some posters at people not seeing colour.

Most races/societies are vying for superiority and this is in direct competition to equality.

They did social experiments with very young children. An adult would be very caring sharing toys etc, then a second adult would join in but not being kind, keeping the toys. The children showed awareness that this was not fair.
The child would show preference to the adult who was of similar/same ethnic background as themselves even when they were the unkind one, there was an uncomfortableness but they would still choose 'what they knew'.
It does appear innate to be more comfortable with 'similar to ourselves' (race, beliefs, interests, etc)
