To be considering going to A&E?

Woke up at 4am this morning with pain high in the middle of my stomach. Thought maybe trapped wind, took buscopan and windeeze , went to loo twice and no better.
I've not eaten all day cos of this pain. It's like an intense stitch or wind type pain?
I don't know if I should go to a&e or if I should just wait. It's probably a 6 on the pain scale, I can walk around kind of but it's always there. It's about here (see photo)
I don't know what to do.

To be considering going to A&E?

I think at only a 6 and for less than 24 hours then it doesn’t warrant A&E.
Its not an emergency (yet)
If it gets worse or there are other symptoms then phone 111

Notjusta · 07/09/2022 16:08

Have you called 111 or your GP? That is your first point of call for this.

Crazycatstory · 07/09/2022 16:10

Call 111? Or your gp.

leopardprintlover88 · 07/09/2022 16:11

@Hoppinggreen thank you. I'm not writhing in agony but it's certainly stopping my day to day usual activities. It varies between maybe 6-8 on pain scale if 10 is labour pains!
I keep trying to go to the toilet but not much comes out but what does is watery (sorry TMI)
And I'm quite nauseous.
You don't want to take up a&e time with things as they are really though do you!

Why didn’t you call your GP? Or even speak to a pharmacist?

Daysy · 07/09/2022 16:13

Yeah YABU.

Why don’t grown adults know what A&E stands for? It’s weird.

Atmywitsend29 · 07/09/2022 16:13

I'd say try and get in to see your GP.
Or perhaps call 111.
111 may well suggest you attend a&e anyway based on the symptoms.
If the pain gets worse, a&e?

Have you taken (if able to) pain relief?
If so, did it help?

Luckydip1 · 07/09/2022 16:14

As it would take two weeks to get an appointment to see a GP, you may as well go to A&E.

Whiteflowers1 · 07/09/2022 16:14

Call your GP. I work for 111 and this wouldn't warrant an ED visit.

leopardprintlover88 · 07/09/2022 16:14

Sorry I should've mentioned. I spoke to my GP this morning and she suggested it could be an ulcer?

OP posts:
Notjusta · 07/09/2022 16:15

Sounds like you have a bit of a tummy bug. Plain food if you are hungry, sips of water and rest should sort it out. But call 111 to check with them and for reassurance.

I immediately thought ulcer too. What has your gp recommended? Going in for an examination? Issued a prescription? Told you to try the pharmacy first?

jjg2022 · 07/09/2022 16:17

Hi OP,

I'm not a doctor obviously.

However. I've recently been diagnosed with gall stones and this sounds exactly like the gall bladder pain that I experience.
A&E missed it when I went in with the exact pain four weeks ago. So unless it gets worse or you get a fever, vomiting etc. Ring your GP or 111 and they can make you an out of hours appointment and they will do bloods that will be back in 24 hours. That's how I got sorted.

I feel for you cos it's really painful!!

OldTinHat · 07/09/2022 16:17

Pop to the pharmacist??

nutellachurro · 07/09/2022 16:18

Then there is your answer

Unless the GP advised going to A&E you don't go

iwannabea · 07/09/2022 16:19

no wonder a&e waiting times are higher than ever

leopardprintlover88 · 07/09/2022 16:19

@hedgehoglurker a prescription for lansoprazole (sp?) twice a day. I took the first one as soon as the prescription was collected but it didn't touch it. Said to come back if it gets worse and they will do a camera. Which is fine if it's a niggly pain but it's been constant all day and bloody hurts Sad

Give the lansoprazole a chance to work. It won't do much after one dose. Have you taken paracetamol for the pain?
Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen but you can take paracetamol.

Gaviscon might also help.

Yes, I agree. It isn't a painkiller but I think reduces the acid so the ulcer can heal, which of course isn't an immediate miracle cure.

Greydogs123 · 07/09/2022 16:24

Sounds gallbladder-ish. Have non-fatty food for a day, drink peppermint tea/eat some peppermints, have some apple juice. If that helps it’s quite likely to be gallbladder. Get a gp app to have it investigated properly.

leopardprintlover88 · 07/09/2022 16:25

@fairgame84 I actually took 2 ibroprofen last night before bed for an unrelated issue do you think that could've triggered it?
I haven't taken any other painkillers as I was scared to make it worse. Should I try some paracetamol do you think?
I've had the lansoprazole, buscopan and some windeeze earlier on x

Lansoprazole is to neutralise acid, it's not a pain killer. Avoid ibuprofen based pain relief and take paracetamol for the pain.

Mumsgirls · 07/09/2022 16:26

Sound like my gall stones. Had you eaten any fat?
