To ask you to give me the best parts of single life?

I am leaving a very unhappy and toxic relationship in the next few months. Having made this decision finally today after months of unhappiness, arguments, and emotional abuse I feel as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

I am going to find things right financially but I'm going to make it work, for my 2 girls. I will be a newly single mum to them both.

Please tell me a) this is going to be OK as I'm having a little wobble, and b) what are the highlights of single life? 🙂

Watching what you want, when you want;
Opening and closing windows according to your wants;
Fiddling with the heating when you want;
Eating what you want, when you want;
Not having to answer to someone you despise;;
Not having to explain your actions to someone whose effing business it isn’t;
Not having the toxicity in your life;
Being able to paint the walls black if you want;
Not having to tiptoe round the toxic ex;
Not having to suppress your very being;
Not having to be subservient to an arsehole;
Dancing to ABBA at volume 11.
I could go on all night.
I’ve been where you are and I know there’ll be hardships and problems but you’ll be exhilarated and revitalised to be freeeeeeee. It’s incredible.
God bless you three as you start on your awfully big adventure.

HappyPeach · 06/09/2022 18:48

Someone else said what I was thinking & it is soooo true. You're never more lonely than when in a shite relationship. No part of a single life feels as bad and oppresive.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/09/2022 18:48

Everything

100 fucking percent.

Always4Brenner · 06/09/2022 18:49

No Sport no crap music no Simpson’s. That’s my start and I can’t wait.

TwilightSkies · 06/09/2022 18:50

Everything. There are no down sides to being single!!!! (As long as you are ok financially)

TheLostNights · 06/09/2022 18:51

For me, it was-

  1. Watching what I wanted on TV
  2. Bed to myself and not being woken up.
  3. Less tidying, cooking and cleaning
  4. No in laws
  5. Freedom to do what I wanted of a weekend
  6. Not having to answer to anyone.
Sometimes I miss those days. Enjoy your new life x

Yes, the bestv way is to embrace the fall in status. I mean financial status iykwim. 'Is juliet doing ballet?". No, Hyacinth, she is not. 🤣

I never hoped that money would materialise, I was so careful paying bills first. I hunkered down finacially. I got used to it. Things have got a lot easier!

Hope you get to freedom soon.

Oh wow I feel emotional all over again reading these replies - this time for good reasons.

Priceless peace. The toilet seat will be in its proper position. You won't have to tread on egg shells or pamper to a big baby. Win win.

Glitterspy · 06/09/2022 18:55

So glad I have found this thread. OP I mentally said goodbye to a toxic relationship today too, my marriage as it was is over and he has gone elsewhere for the new few night while I consider my next move.

To me, it’s the idea of having the bed to myself, having a glass of wine if I want one, never having our kids hear us argue, never having to tiptoe around on eggshells and never again waking up unknowingly to being in the wrong again.

TwoMonthsOff · 06/09/2022 18:55

@newsinglelife 😢thats lovely - you will get there 💐

What about that nasty grey wet shaving scum left all around the basin ?
and not having to launder boxers with peanut butter-esque ‘deposits’ in

TwoMonthsOff · 06/09/2022 18:42

@Bananaman123
going to bed at 7pm with a cheese toastie and a glass of Rioja and your iPad with loads of night cream on and your hair up. Bonus with cat or dog on bed for company with only a blissful sleep to look forward to until morning

This sounds utterly blissful.

Although the good nights sleep (or not) will be determined by my toddler and the occasions when she decides to sleep through 🙈😂

But we will get there.

And you both can have breakfast in bed with cartoons on a Saturday morning every week without anybody whinging about it or taking up too much space.

I may do that this Saturday and I don't even have a toddler😃

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 06/09/2022 19:06

I'm excited on your behalf OP. I love being single. I'm just me. I can make my own decisions and don't have to pander to someone who thought all my decisions should centre him. Bliss.
Oh and I love the starfishing 😁
