Was just after some moral support am on holiday with my daughter in a shit all inclusive in turkey horrible place and horrible hotel. We are here until Monday 😭honestly been in tears and just want to come home. Any words of wisdom to keep us going. They want £650 for an earlier flight home that I just can’t afford.

Sorry your hotel is shit OP. Keep nagging at the tour op to see if they will switch your hotel. If not go on Booking and look for another place to stay, there might be a nicer hotel to switch to rather than flying home.

Good luck!

Dirty hotel random drunks walking about at night making you feel unsafe.. Pervy men honestly not one to complain but this is bad. plus food is disgusting and no one speaks English well so hard to express yourself.

Gi on a nice boat trip tomorrow.

Twitter is your friend here @Haystravel and the resort,.they really won't want the bad publicity

Your attitude on this thread is atrocious

Melabela10 · 05/09/2022 20:24

OP there is a great range of the hotels in Turkey for every budget and taste, its a great holidays destination and a good value for money, but you need to do your research, often people fall for "cheap AI" trap and those ones can be pretty grim (* rating can be quite meaningless outside Europe ). Re food, this can be quite subjective, ive seen a few Brits complaining about food, which i personally found quite good in many non-European hotel. Regarding people not speaking English, do you find many guests form other countries? Please do read the reviews the next time as they'd tell you where the majority of guests come from. Does the hotel/reception staff not speak English? This is quite odd, as majority of hotels ive been to in Turkey will have Engslish speaking front office staff, the housekeeping staff, catering staff rarely speaksEnsglish (they dont really need to TBH). In terms of males making comments, is this the hotel staff making comments? then def complain, if these are the other guests then there is a little you can do, just ignore.

I think generally the rule of thumb is if you want a good quality hotel in Turkey you need to pay (it will still work out less expensive than Spain/Greece at this time of the year).

LollingAround · 05/09/2022 20:27

Make sure you take lots and lots of photos. Home in on dirt and safety issues if you can. Video the food. Use flash and see if the photos look better or worse.

incognitodorrito · 05/09/2022 20:27

Book a day out to the waterpark at Land of Legends, a half boat trip to the waterfalls.. there’s lots to do. We are just back from Antalya and loved it BUT I don’t think I would have taken the kids alone (without hubby) to Turkey. This is often the problem with „really good deals“ though too, four star in Turkey is verrrrry different to elsewhere.!

ODFOx · 05/09/2022 20:30

Our experience of Turkey has been overwhelmingly positive but they are very conservative/misogynist so be careful to dress modestly away from the pool at all times would be my advice. Long sleeved tops and maxi skirt or loose trousers.
The behaviour towards women is correlated to the appropriateness of the clothing for the culture. If your daughter is a preteen/teen the same rules apply. Do not go on a day trip to a carpet factory. (Anecdotal, not based on my experience).

Ilovemycatalot · 05/09/2022 20:30

Yes definitely not a place to Come as a lone female. Thanks all I am of to bed and praying the days go fast.

It’s with a big tour operator probably quite outing if I say who it is.

Sorry op, you have my sympathy for the shit hotel, but lmao at naming a huge tour company is more outing than saying you're in Turkey with your DD.

Jamaisy82 · 05/09/2022 20:31

I didn't like Turkey when I first went, I wanted to come home also even though my hotel was clean and nice yet basic. After a day or two I ended up enjoying it. Went on lots of day trips etc. Wouldn't go back though.

Do hotels in England with a high percentage of overseas visitors have ‘a good grasp’ of French? Spanish? Chinese or Italian? No.

Then why is it expected that everywhere else in the world staff should speak English? What happened to learning some basics of the language before going abroad?

Oh come on.

It is possible to learn 'the basics' in Turkish, but you would have to be reasonably proficient in the language to have a useful discussion regarding various issues to do with the hotel and how they would be remedied. it's hardly the same as ordering a cup of coffee. I know it is the 'done' thing to sneer at people who don't speak other languages, but like it or not, English is the Lingua Franca for many tourists. I've been in plenty of places where non-native English speakers would converse with the hosts in English because that was just the default language (an Icelandic shop assistant helping a German tourist, for instance).

In the business world the default international language is almost always English. Perhaps that will change one day, but right now that's just the way it is.

It is not unreasonable to want one English-speaking rep in a hotel in a tourist area in Turkey that serves English customers.

Ilovemycatalot · 05/09/2022 20:33

My parents have offered to pay the flight home bless them so if it’s that bad always an option.

OP posts:
FloppyFlippy · 05/09/2022 20:35

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to move hotels/go out every day than to fly home? All day on the beach, dinner out and you’ll hardly be at the hotel.

JubileeTissues · 05/09/2022 20:36

Stick it out OP and get on to Hays Travel and complain about the safety aspect with the drunks and the uncooked food.

Ask them where they will be moving you to and don't take no for an answer.

If your parents fork out £650 then it'll be just lost, and so will the holiday price. (Although you can fly home for much cheaper as PPs pointed out so not sure why you'd go with the expensive option)

incognitodorrito · 05/09/2022 20:36

For all those asking which hotel it is, I don’t know, but the one we stayed at, Royal Holiday Palace was amazing should any of you be checking in there. Like lots of PPs, sadly I do think it makes a difference if you take a man with you to Turkey.

CRlcaem · 05/09/2022 20:37

It is not unreasonable to want one English-speaking rep in a hotel in a tourist area in Turkey that serves English customers.

I very much doubt there isn’t one English-speaking person there. The OP said they don’t speak English. You certainly don’t need the buffet or pool staff speaking fluent English.

Why do people book package holidays anymore i have no idea..

Book your flights through skyscanner, book accommodation on booking.com
when you arrive at the airport just jump in a taxi.

save money.. more options, flexibility.

Personally i would have just gone to Alanya and booked into a little family run B&B on the coast.

Good for you

They shouldn’t be expected to speak English…they are Turkish 🙈

did you look at reviews of the hotel before you travelled?

personally I wouldn’t go to turkey even if someone paid for me…I would expect rubbish standards tbh

Years ago I stayed in an AI in Antalya and I hated it - think it was Cleopatra something.

I’ve been to Turkey a fair few times but never returned there!

As others have said complain to Hays on Twitter, get out and about with your DD and book some trips. Turkey is lovely, the people are lovely too - I’m sorry you are having a bad experience

coolpattern · 05/09/2022 20:47

I enjoyed my stay in Antalya. Tip the waiters now, they’ll look after you.

book some trips. Cheap ham man’s we’re only £20 in April. Go shopping, it’s cheap.visit the old city and get on a boat from the old town.

Echobelly · 05/09/2022 20:48

Are there any other English/English-speaking people staying there you could talk to and hang out with, even to commiserate?

Why would Twitter be the first port of call over just ringing them, which it doesn't sound like the OP has done?

As I stated in an earlier post, I work for a Tour Op and any complaint that came publicly via social media before we'd been given the full information and an opportunity to fix it would be given short shrift & the bare minimum from us.

If we won't or can't fix the problem when given the chance, then go ahead and bawl us out publicly, we probably deserve it at that stage.

WhatsitWiggle · 05/09/2022 20:51

Hays is a travel agent, did they put this package together for you or have they sold a package from another operator? Every tour operator I've worked for has a Duty Office - 24/7 phone line for issues on your holiday. The number should be on your confirmation, you need to call that and say the hotel is not as described when you booked ie incorrect room, safety issues, food quality. It's basically tough if you just don't like the hotel, but facilities not as booked is different and they should be trying to put it right.
