Is this dress "slutty"? (Their words not mine)

I ask because, in MNspeak, a "close female relative" described it as such.

For context this is not my normal attire, I am currently wearing black skinnies and a Def Leppard Tshirt! But I have been invited to a "Come as you were" fancy dress party. I didnt really have a clue what to wear and was toying with going out and out silly and wearing something a 1970's little girl might wear when I found this for £6 in TKMaxx. Big hair, make up put on with a trowel, heels, more make up and enough perfume to kill an elephant....job done, clubbing early 90's me! Not that I did much clubbing but ya know, artistic licence!

She says that it would look ok on either of older two daughters as they are early twenties but it is "inappropriate and slutty on a woman of your age". I told her it was fancy dress and a laugh but she is deeply disapproving. In hindsight, me saying "Oh good, perhaps I'll pull then" to the slutty comment wasnt the best thing I could have said!

So....AIBU to wear it?

You look amazing, you have a beautiful figure.

chesirecat99 · 05/09/2022 17:00

You look fantastic it in.

But therein lies the issue... you just look like you are wearing a dress rather than fancy dress. It doesn't really typify any era or style and it isn't a "caricature".

I second going for the exaggerated rock girl look or 70s kid's party dress. Save this dress for a non fancy dress occasion and wear it non-ironically to annoy your mother 😂

Sciurus83 · 05/09/2022 17:02

Dress looks great you can absolutely wear it. But as a fellow 90s metaller I LOVED this theme, got one of those absurdly short kilt skirts, band t shirt, vans, all the beads and studded bracelets could fit on each limb amd an excellent time was had by all. Be who you were, it will be way more fun!

gannett · 05/09/2022 17:05

Au contraire, this is a perfect response.

Tierne · 05/09/2022 17:05

It isnt fancy dress enough

Soontobe60 · 05/09/2022 17:05

It looks great! Tell whoever told you its ‘slutty’ that that’s the look you were going for 😂

ChickinMarango · 05/09/2022 17:06

@PyongyangKipperbang disappointed it’s not sluttier 😂Dress is lovely and you look fab! Ignore the hater.

kimchifox · 05/09/2022 17:07

Close female relative is probably just jealous of your figure! Or ancient. Not slutty it's quite demure. It's hardly an Erika Jayne outfit 😂

MushMonster · 05/09/2022 17:07

Please wear it, it is made for your figure!
Gorgeous!
Nothing too revealing at all.

It was your mum? Well she’s obviously getting into character and doing that 90s mum thing!

Culldesack · 05/09/2022 17:09

You've got the figure, go for it x

Mabelstearooms · 05/09/2022 17:10

Looks great on you! You have a great figure. Not 'slutty' at all, whatever that means. Ignore your mum. It doesn't scream 90's or fancy dress though, rather just something someone would wear out now.

Mabelstearooms · 05/09/2022 17:11

My mum used to have a bedspread with that exact design on in the 90's though. M&S I think it was. Matching plates too!

pompei8309 · 05/09/2022 17:13

Nice dress ,nicer figure but very uninspired place to have a tattoo , that makes the “whole thing” looks cheap , sorry

CrabbitBastard · 05/09/2022 17:14

Don't like the dress, but not because it looks slutty, just don't like the pattern.

I'm guessing your mum is the one who made a comment. Are we related as my mum can also be a bit of a cow!

LittleFluffyCloudz · 05/09/2022 17:15

I suspect the person who said you looked slutty is less attractive than you?

It's taken me years to understand this.

Wear it, fab figure.

mags1862 · 05/09/2022 17:15

Anything you feel you need to keep pulling down is a no from me unless you have special knickers you want to flash , comfort first .

Did you get out of the cunty side of the bed this morning?

Nobetterthansheoughttobe · 05/09/2022 17:16

Well, the adage is either knees or tits, not both, so yes, slutty
But in the context of a fancy dress party it's perfect!

Yarboosucks · 05/09/2022 17:16

If you wear it, be careful of any matching upholstery or curtains! Girl can't pull if she is camouflaged and invisible!

The OP didn't ask about her tattoo, did she? 🙄

It's not 90s OP but it looks fantastic on you!

Notanotherwindow · 05/09/2022 17:17

I wouldn't call it slutty at all. Quite revealing but if you've got it, flaunt it!

FrankLampardsBrokenHand · 05/09/2022 17:18

Nope not slutty at all and it looks fab on you!

Lakeyloo · 05/09/2022 17:19

Amazing legs ! (and boobs for that matter) you look great..
Aren't you supposed to wear whatever you were wearing when you got the party invite to a "come as you were" party ? so PJ's if you'd just got up, comfys if you were slobbing, bath towel if just out of the bath, exercise gear, hair in foils if you were sitting in the hairdressers etc....
