To still live my best life even though I’m fat

Whatyagonnadokatie · 03/09/2022 22:26

Many mnetters hate fat people. They dress it up as concern for health. But I think it’s something deeper than that. Something about us letting ourselves lose self discipline or something. Some people even seem to think that we shouldn’t have nice clothes (let me tell you, no one purposely gains weight to wear some lovely plus size clothes).

reading some threads on here break my heart when women dread going to social events because they are fat.

aibu to say, fuck that, get on with your life and be happy even if you are fat. Wear the nice clothes, go to all the social events. And hey, eat the biscuit if you really want to

*doesn't matter

Paq · 04/09/2022 09:06

The focus on attractiveness on the thread is just weird. "My friend is fat but she's beautiful". Who cares how she looks? Women, we're not ornaments.

LolaO · 04/09/2022 09:07

I am fat but really happy. I exercise, but also eat and drink more than I should, mostly because food is delicious and my lovely husband is an excellent cook. My mother would fit right in on many many of the fat hating threads and sees me being fat as a failure (by me) and a personal affront (to her). I wish she was happy in herself but she doesn’t seem to be.

While this won’t be true for all (I know lots of slim women who are much fitter than me) my mother is the type who has prioritised “slim” over any type of actual fitness. This means I am actually considerably fitter than my mother and despite being much larger I can and do run/walk/swim further and faster.

I think it depends how fat someone is. There’s a level of largeness that can’t possibly be any fun to live with (think My 600lb Life) but if you’re nowhere near that then live your life the way you want to and enjoy it. There are shops that stock larger sizes in nice clothes so there’s no reason why you can’t look lovely just as you are 🙂

Yes this is true. People don't seem to get that not all fat people shove tons of food on their faces constantly. Yes I ate way too much to get to my current weight of 13.5 stone (from 10 stone) - I was going through some very difficult MH stuff for over 3 years. But to maintain this weight I eat just over 2000 cal a day. Yes I could lose it but I feel good and have the healthy habits needed to maintain good health. There have been many studies to say those habits (exercise, not drinking or smoking, getting 5+ fruit and veg a day) are what stops you getting ill/dying not weight it's just that heavy people are more likely not to do that. Correlation not causation and all that.

angstridden2 · 04/09/2022 09:20

If you’re happy in your body, fine.I do worry about the increasing number of younger people (Sadly that’s probably under 50s now as I’m old) who are extremely overweight. Age brings health problems anyway, but I suspect we will see increasing numbers of comparatively young people requiring knee and hip replacements and if they live long enough, a further replacement 20 years on.The NHS if it still exists simply won’t be able to cope.

Titsywoo · 04/09/2022 09:21

Sorry my point there was it depends on how fat someone is re health.

Whatyagonnadokatie · 03/09/2022 22:53

@pd339 im fat because I eat too much. And I enjoyed every last single bite

You seem to have a quite astonishing disregard for evidence.

the evidence that obesity is one of the leading causes of a catalogue of very very serious diseases

Doingprettywellthanks · 04/09/2022 09:30

How many obese old people do you know?

Kateandherbush · 04/09/2022 09:30

Awesome, another thread about weight / size.

Awesome, another thread about weight / size.

And this one filled up really quickly with the usual "concerned for health" comments and even a lovely "don't expect to use the NHS" comment!

Impossible to have just one thread for ourselves without the usual suspects hiding their disgust behind "concern".

Kateandherbush · 04/09/2022 09:33

Anyone pushing the ‘I’m fat and happy and I can EVEN get a man’ bollocks - needs a patriarchy check.

Why is that your problem? Surely the quicker we all die the better for people like you? No need to look at us in the street because we've all dropped dead at 40 with the cream cake still clutched in our fat little fingers.

I’m not the least bit concerned

i am genuinely intrigued by the idea of embracing something that is the leading cause of so many serious diseases. Baffling

Doingprettywellthanks · 04/09/2022 09:35

I’d only be concerned if it was a loved one.

Aw are you baffled hun?! Don't let it worry you.

cant believe some people voted you were being unreasonable.

It’s so fucking boring isn’t it?🙄

Those suddenly overly concerned with the strain on the NHS.. Perhaps stop voting in dickheads instead of blaming obesity.

It’s embarrassing how wilfully ignorant a large proportion of people are.

Oh give over!
So you have many idea what the costs of obesity are, direct and indirect to the NHS?

To society as a whole?

Such a stupid comment. Now everyone apparently wishes you were all dead too.

The ‘woe is me’ on here is something else.

We do indeed have dickheads for leaders, nor argument there.

But don’t ignore the element of personal responsibility here too.

Obesity and its related conditions (there are many and people are developing them younger and younger) will massively impact the NHS. Like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

You not liking this narrative doesn’t make it untrue.

As i say, not worried in slightest.

Curiosity and concern and two totally different things. I’m the former 😂

Suprima · 04/09/2022 09:41

It all depends on what ‘living your best life’ is. The measure of your life being ‘go ahead, have that biscuit’ and ‘wear nice clothes’ isn’t really a best life lived to me.

I’ve been very fat. My joints ached (particularly my knees), I had chub rub from hell and couldn’t be particularly active. I wasn’t pre-diabetic or anything- just constrained by my heavy body. That’s not ‘my best life’, but we’re all different.

I don’t get the mass of comments on this thread about still being attractive at a heavier weight/‘my friend is fat and she is beautiful’…being fuckable to men is pretty low down my priorities 😂

Quincythequince · 04/09/2022 09:41

Perfect example of ignorance right here.

Some people clearly enjoy blaming and shaming the fat people for how fucked the NHS is. Honestly, wake up.

Spot on

having another biscuit is just not what I regard as living my best life.

Kayaking down a river in croatia with my teens and then hiking back to the hotel…. Wearing not “nice” clothes and just eating what we managed to shove in our back backs (some dodgy sandwiches, fruit and crisps) is my idea of living my best life

each to their own!

‘Like nothing we’ve ever seen before’.

Either get a grip or get back to reading The Daily Fail. Pathetic fat-phobic rhetoric.

You not liking fat people doesn’t make it true.
