Do you care that Liz Truss had an affair?

On the one hand, I feel that it's her own business, but on the other, I want a PM I can look up to, who I can trust, who has dignity. After Boris, after his endless lies, Truss doesn't inspire the integrity that I want to see in my country's leader. AIBU?

John Major - integrity!

donquixotedelamancha · 01/09/2022 00:33

John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Theresa May all had integrity and were not liars.

Major had an affair and presided over a very corrupt government. May was the second worst PM in British history

And if it bothers you that Liz Truss had an affair......... why does that bother you more than Rishi and his wifes vast wealth? And thats just two issues to cherry pick from. Neither one is more worthy than the other.

I don't think it's fair to compare cheating with being rich!

Rishi hasn't actually done anything wrong by marrying a super-rich woman. You could potentially argue that there have been questions over his wife's non-dom status and therefore whether she has paid enough tax, but we don't actually have much evidence to be sure on this either way. And actually, should he be blamed for choices that she presumably made?

We do know that Liz Truss betrayed one of the people who was closest to her, ie her husband, by having an affair. I think that says quite a lot about her character personally.

RilkeanHeart · 01/09/2022 00:38

No, I don’t care that she’s had an affair. I do care that she’s a Tory and that her party has wreaked havoc on our country over the last 12 years and will continue to do so. I don’t believe our leaders need to be paragons of virtue, but I do believe they need to care about more than their own self-interest and that of their class.

TBF in a month’s time May will only have been the 3rd worst PM.

I really don’t care if politicians have had affairs. I think it’s quite separate.

If she starts going on about bringing back 'old fashioned family values' and that sort of tosh, then I'd take more interest in her extra marital activities.

John Major did exactly that. While shagging Edwina Currie he launched Back To Basics.

Politicians are human. Boris Johnson is dishonest to his core, like a stick of rock, but if you start judging professionals by how faithful they are to their spouses, we'd have very few options.

I really DGAF what they do in their private lives, as long as they don't break the law. It's what they do in their professional lives that matters, and that's where she alarms me. People will die this winter if we don't have proper intervention - the energy crisis and the NHS crisis are just as serious as Covid and will kill at least as many people - and yet she appears to think a little tax cut will solve it all. Because that will keep the doors of schools, hospitals and businesses open when none are protected by the energy cap, and all families have plural hundreds of pounds a month of flex in their budgets.

I don't care if she sleeps with all the national football and rugby teams in the UK, including coaching staff. Why would I? Not my circus, not my monkeys. I just care that she does something that can actually help the country through the impending winter.

Libertyqueen · 01/09/2022 00:43

It bothers me yes. But I already thought she was awful so made very little difference to my overall opinion. Not much lower you can sink than planning to preside over the worst poverty we have seen in generations and do nothing to help.

WHAT???? I've just googled it and JOHN MAJOR HAD AN AFFAIR WITH EDWINA CURRIE?! Is this common knowledge, I honestly had no idea 😳

antelopevalley · 01/09/2022 00:44

First I have heard about this.

Not as much as it bothers me that she’s an incompetent fool.

Same here.

Yes it's common knowledge (if you are old enough to be around then).
It's not just speculation. They both admitted to it (eventually)

LolaButt · 01/09/2022 00:47

She could hire a tour bus with a bed and go around the country fucking a plethora of consenting adults for all I care.

I care about not being financially ruined due to a gas bill, and not seeing other humans needlessly suffer due to a lack of government sense.

IAmAGargoyle · 01/09/2022 00:49

I care that she's a conservative and has propped up this sorry excuse for a government to further her own career. I don't care about her having an affair.

Cheeselog · 01/09/2022 00:49

I care. Our leader should have at least the most basic level of integrity!

JubileeTissues · 01/09/2022 00:51

"No but I do care that she’s younger than me! I only found out yesterday that she’s 47! I honestly thought she was pushing 70"

70? I can't stand the woman due to her outlook but she doesn't look 70

lljkk · 01/09/2022 00:52

Funny how Truss & Johnson make Cameron look like a nice reliable family man.

Name a prime minister within your living memory that was worthy, someone you felt able to look up to with respect. Someone you trusted who you felt had the peoples interests at heart. <Ill wait>

Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown

I agree. Gordon Brown. He still does what he can to help the poor where he lives. He’s a titan compared to the miserable self-serving wretches we have now.
