Do you care that Liz Truss had an affair?

On the one hand, I feel that it's her own business, but on the other, I want a PM I can look up to, who I can trust, who has dignity. After Boris, after his endless lies, Truss doesn't inspire the integrity that I want to see in my country's leader. AIBU?

I generally don’t care, but if it stops her from being PM then brilliant news.

Didn't stop the outgoing wast of skin.

The amorality in their private lives, with other consenting adults is one thing, but the lack of ability to do or say anything useful, to accept that they've fucked up, to take no responsibility for that, to continually lie to and gaslight the public, and the total disinterest in anything other than acquiring personal wealth.....that should be the reason to not get the PM job. Again, that doesn't seem to have affected choices in the past.

Name a prime minister within your living memory that was worthy, someone you felt able to look up to with respect. Someone you trusted who you felt had the peoples interests at heart. <Ill wait>

Harold Wilson.
Theresa May, stitched up over Brexit, hope she’s enjoying a less stressful life now.
Gordon Brown.
not sure about Tony Blair, he started off well, charismatic, dynamic, a breath of fresh air after years of Conservative governments but the lies about WMD did him no favours.
John Major had integrity until he had an affair with the female MP whose name escapes me. I can see her face…

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2022 08:50

On the face of it I don't care.

I do care if they use public money to bankroll their affair - looking at you Hancock & Johnson. I'm sure there are others.

I didn't know Truss had had an affair with Kwarteng though. Bit unusual to then bring him in as Chancellor.

MsTSwift · 01/09/2022 08:54

Definitely Gordon Brown. The worst his wife had to say about him was he once used a sheet as a table cloth when they had visitors

cyclamenqueen · 01/09/2022 08:55

I don’t have a problem per se although it’s not great I suppose. I do have a problem with the fact that she is likely to appoint at least one of those people into a vitally important Cabinet role

Choconut · 01/09/2022 09:01

Yay a liar and a cheat for PM, she's going to slip nicely into Boris's shoes. I didn't think I could loathe her more, now I do. I don't understand why she's ahead of Rishi Sunak, I mean he's not perfect by any means but at least he appears intelligent and can be taken seriously - and after the last buffoon we really need that surely. She seems to just want to please everyone and will go to any lengths to do it, basically promising everything to everyone. We all know how long those promises are likely to last - just long enough to get her where she wants to be.

YukoandHiro · 01/09/2022 09:02

Nope. I care that she seems utterly stupid.

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 01/09/2022 09:13

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. All that matters is her ability to do the job. Because it IS a job. I don’t need to like her or police her sex life.

Whether she can do that job (well), I do not know. But that’s a different matter.

dottiedodah · 01/09/2022 09:16

Her own business I think .let's be honest how many mps are at it I wonder. She is back with her husband and family now. I personally only care that she finds a way round cost of living crisis especially energy bills and doubt I'm the only one!

Pava22 · 01/09/2022 09:22

Most of them have had affairs I reckon. And it doesn't have any bearing on how someone runs the country. Affects her morality though. We also don't know what her husband has been up to either. Not really our business without media we wouldn't know about it.

With all the things we hear people doing this isn't strange any more to be honest. Very wrong but not strange in that line of work!

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2022 09:22

Affairs are an issue if only because they open the individual up to blackmail or coercion.

So it's not true to sight they don't matter at all.

(BTW I'm not suggesting that is the case with Truss & Kwarteng)

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2022 09:22
  • Not true to state not sight!

MrsFezziwig · 01/09/2022 00:14

Not as much as it bothers me that she’s an incompetent fool.

^^This. Absolutely.

FlorettaB · 01/09/2022 09:24

I don’t care who she sleeps with. I care about her appalling policies.

StaunchMomma · 01/09/2022 09:25

I do care.

I care because I'm sick of slimy, toady arseholes as leaders.

It would be nice if, just for once, a genuinely decent, hard-working, caring (about EVERYONE, not just their rich mates) personable, empathetic, reliable, strong person WITH MORALS was to be our leader.

It's just been such a long line of twats!!

RaRaRaspoutine · 01/09/2022 09:31

Tories will Tory. I don't think anyone who actively tries to make people's lives worse can be faithful or honest in their personal lives.

LadyEloise1 · 01/09/2022 09:32

As** @mowly77 said "......Nothing will ever top John Major and Edwina Currie."

Or even come close. 😮

BaileySharp · 01/09/2022 09:34

She seems a bit incompetent to be honest. Having affairs makes me even less keen on her. But YABU if you thought she otherwise seemed like a fine choice of PM (Sunak not much better tbh, maybe slightly).

theworldhas · 01/09/2022 09:38

It worries me much more that she hasn’t got a clue what she’s doing other than being a puppet for whichever branch of Tory lobbyists/interest groups shout loudest/flashes the biggest cheques.

Boris Johnson was vain, corrupt, massively lazy, ridiculous and massively incompetent. A real triumph of the British system. But he did at least have a vague set of political principles of which he was in favour of and those which he would oppose.

Whereas Truss is just a complete political and intellectual vacuum. Which is pretty dangerous in these times.

Ugzbugz · 01/09/2022 09:39

None of them are trustworthy in any respect, and nobody ever knows what anyone is really up to, her sex life is irrelevant.

Blossomtoes · 01/09/2022 09:56

I don’t give a shit who she sleeps with, it’s nobody else’s business but her husband’s. Her incompetence and far right views do concern me, hopefully she’s going to be enough of a disaster to consign the Tories to Room 101 for a generation.

gatehouseoffleet · 01/09/2022 09:58

Why is it remotely relevant to her ability (or not) to do the job? People are so puritanical in this country, I really couldn't give a toss what consenting adults do.

(see also Matt Hancock - who cares other than his wife and maybe she was glad to get shot of him)

I am more worried by her apparent lack of any common sense and silly soundbites. She's a lot like Theresa May, but worse.

As someone with a functioning brain didn't 'look up' to Truss prior to learning of any affair, so it changes nothing.

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2022 10:03

It is relevant because it leaves them open to blackmail.

The Chief Whips Big Book of Bad Behaviours (TM Gavin Williamson) wasn't compiled by accident - it was created so they could have leverage over MPs to help "guide" them.

It’s very rare for me to disagree with you but it’s only relevant in that sense if it’s a secret. We know Truss has had at least one affair so the blackmail horse has bolted.
