to worry about transgender ideology being pushed on kids

Noella McHaher is a ten year old model whose parents said she “self identified” as a girl at the age of two. Her parents are also trans.

If my two year old identified as a smoker, I wouldn’t allow them cigarettes. Why is this movement so hellbent on putting children into boxes instead of letting them just grow up without defined labels?

Speaking generally, there is a link between children who “hate” their biological sex and child abuse. Children who have been SA sometimes self harm as a way of trying to prevent further abuse. I’m worried that these signs are being missed.

am I alone on this?

I'm really losing patience with the earnest "but sex is actually really complex and difficult to define" line.

Throughout history half the population have been denied the right to own property, to vote, to be educated. So how did the men in power know who to oppress?

Funny how it's crystal clear who a woman is when a man doesn't want her to have something, but it suddenly becomes all blurry and vague when it suits a man to call himself a woman.

Quite.

The bottom line is that females are born with a uterus, vagina, ovaries and so on. Males are born with a penis and testes. For the vanishingly small number of people for whom this is not the case, a chromosome test will suffice. There are a tiny number of people who aren’t XX or XY, but that’s generally not who we’re talking about here.

Women are adult human females, and who is born (note: born, none of this “assigned” nonsense) a female is pretty damn obvious, despite the disingenuity. Funnily enough, it’s never hard to tell which animals are male and female in farming, and humans are no different.

TheElementsSong · 31/08/2022 15:56

I find it hilarious that some posters are waving their "my biological sciences degree tells me that sex is veeeeeeery complicated" credentials.

Sex is not complicated. It's existed stably for probably nearly a billion years. Male = body type set up for producing small motile gametes. Female = body type set up for producing large immotile gametes. That's it.

The life-forms that have evolved since then have layered on all sorts of weird and wonderful ways of reproducing. Sometimes something goes wrong in the development process or the reproductive process; this could happen to a flower or a mantis shrimp or a Shih-Tzu. This doesn't mean that male and female are a blurry indistinguishable smushed-up spectrum. It just means something has gone wrong. Like, if your toaster stops working, it's a broken toaster - it doesn't mean it's become a television.

BitossiBlues · 31/08/2022 15:56

I know a few families with children claiming to be trans. In each case, the child had experienced some form of trauma (family violence, a sexual assault, death of a parent); and in one case, one of 2 boy twins was treated from a very early age as a girl, I suspect at the behest of a disappointed parents hoping for one of each sex. Our local girls' school also has a serious case of social contagion going on. I am extremely wary of some of the staff at my DC school who seem hell bent on pushing this agenda - in particular the Drama department seem to embrace this stuff with an uncompromising zealotry that I find really disturbing.

ASDstruggles · 31/08/2022 15:59

Social contagion absolutely rude in my kids school too. 10% are saying they are trans / non-binary. It’s the cool thing to be these days

ASDstruggles · 31/08/2022 15:59

Rife!

😂

midgetastic · 31/08/2022 16:00

I don't believe there has to be trauma to feel like you are the wrong sex somehow

But I can see that trauma could reinforce those feelings

Plasmodesmata · 31/08/2022 16:05

Interesting thread. Not least because it's still here!

Creativecrafts · 31/08/2022 16:05

I really don't care about who wants to 'shut me down' when I say that the whole circus has got way out of hand.

In my opinion it's only fed by social media. There may be a very small minority of people who think they should be the opposite sex, but the way today's society panders to this nonsense is quite ridiculous.

This will probably be deleted as 'not conforming to today's values but if it is, that will only be further proof that far too many people are completely unable to think for themselves and get swept along by the latest fad.

Plasmodesmata · 31/08/2022 16:06

Also if people aren't making stuff up I am slightly worried about what's being taught in biological science degrees these days.

And here's another issue. According to official Stonewall (I believe) figures, the proportion of trans people is very small (well under 1%). Yet we're seeing many multiples of that among certain teen/young adult groups. There appears to be little in the way of investigation into this or questioning of affirmative care.

Yes! Fingers crossed that continues

WifeMotherWorker · 31/08/2022 16:12

A woman is someone with XX chromosomes and a man is someone with XY chromosomes.
You can love who you want, dress as you please, identify and label yourself to your hearts content and have bits chopped off and added on. Biological gender cannot be argued.
Women (XX) are entitled to safe spaces (toilets, changing facilities, hospital wards, refuges, rape crisis centres and prisons) and should have a fair and equal opportunity in Sport (XX should NOT be competing against XY where strength and speed are concerned).
I just don’t support this ideology and the harm it is doing to our children’s generation and women! I’m team JK Rowling… the majority are.

midgetastic · 31/08/2022 16:19

Ah but

Sone people have XXX or a single x they are female

Some people have xxy ( male but with low androgen (?) sensitivity may be considered to be female )

Other options that we could help with ?

This may also help

I find it quite telling that the term male and female are used with no difficulty

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/08/2022 16:24

It's so funny how, now some males want to pretend they are part of our sex class, 'woman' has now somehow magically become completely indefinable with much hand wringing and confusion and discussion about what a woman actually is and pretence that it 'complicated'

Yet no one ever questions what 'man' is.

The good thing about Trying's posts is that they show all the women who lurk on these threads the absurdity of the ideology.

The idea of mind/body being cleanly separated in function and role is a fallacy

Yep, and actively encouraging children to mentally dissociate with their sexed body is anything but healthy. They see their body as the enemy instead. Something they can detach from or punish.

Just another form of self harm.

VestofAbsurdity · 31/08/2022 16:35

Yet no one ever questions what 'man' is.

Especially not our hypocritical poster Trying20, never any doubt, complexity or room for manoeuvre there. Good old patriarchy.

On the thread subject this ideology should absolutely NOT be pushed onto children at all. No other ideology would be.

I'm not really trying to argue with you. But you say "born in a woman's body but should have been born in a man's" as though it means something ("quite simply"), when I can't make head nor tail of it.

If I was born in a woman's body, then anyone born in a man's body is someone else and not me. So what I am I to make of "I should have been born in a man's body"?

... This seems to be the same as saying, "I should not have been me." But, really, if this is so, what am I to make of it? "I am me" is something that cannot be false: "I am not me" looks like a mistake (a grammatical mistake, in all likelihood, given the connection between "I" and "me" in grammar), so likewise "I should not have been me" just makes no sense at all.

Do you see?

Let me break this down for you. I am not saying that the small minority who believe they are born in the wrong born body from birth (as opposed to those who are just jumping on the tiktok/needing a group to belong to bandwagon) should deal with those feelings by transitioning. At all. Intensive therapy would probably be the best answer just like it is for any dysphoric disorders.

You are trying to argue with someone who also believes it's all bollocks. I am not remotely trans, neither are my children I have no dog in this fight, therefore no answers or insight into how a trans person thinks. You are wasting your time preaching to the converted.

Do you see?

SidewaysOtter · 31/08/2022 16:44

Also if people aren't making stuff up I am slightly worried about what's being taught in biological science degrees these days.

I think there’s a lot of “making stuff up”. IIRC, Stonewall tried to say fairly recently that “the science hasn’t caught up yet”, which I think translates as “We haven’t got any evidence for whatever load of old cobblers we’re trying to peddle today, but we’re hoping the mere mention of the word “science” will make you think our stance is justified.”

AlisonDonut · 31/08/2022 16:48

Gay men know what women are. Otherwise how would they know they are gay in the first place?

Anyway back to the topic at hand. How on earth do you get this ideology scrubbed from your kids' schools, is the question everyone should be asking.

RayneDance · 31/08/2022 16:52

It's insidious and as another poster on.a different thread said...their liberal self never picked up on what's going on behind it.

Same here...and yet I am horrified by what's going on ,stone wall....what's being pushed.

We need to wake up!!
School need to wake up!!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/08/2022 16:53

If I chopped off the bottom half of my body (and somehow survived) so I suddenly lose half my mind? Half my personality? Memories? Intelligence? Obviously not.

When it happens, let us know.

Sadly, by not voting anything other than Conservative.

And before anyone comes in with the "but this is happening under a Conservative government" line, I am aware of that. I am also aware that they are the only mainstream party (including Lib Dems and Greens - not sure about UKIP) who have been vocal about challenging this ideology. The others, if they got into power, would crank the dial to ten before you could blink.

How on earth did humans manage to reproduce for millennia when they had no idea what male and female was Grin

You can philosophise anything into and out of existence - that's the power of rhetoric. But it doesn't change actual reality.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/08/2022 17:00

So it's getting more refined now; I'm getting a clearer picture.

So, a person who can't have a baby, in a country with limited medical provision meaning there is no investigation, is not a woman?

No. Try reading posts. If a female person wants to have a baby but can't investigations will be done. Those investigations will look at her female reproductive system and ability to produce ova. They won't be testing sperm, because that would mean the person was male.
