In Tesco today. Birds Eye normal code fish fingers. 30 pack, so the largest of the standard size packets but not a huge pack. And they were £7.50!! How much?! For bloody fish fingers!

I asked the lady on the check out till and she couldn't believe it either.

I expected them to be about £4. I bought Tesco own at £3.30.

AIBU to think that a what should be a cheap family staple should not be seven pounds bloody 50? And why?

What else is going to rocket in price?

@MibsXX I am so sorry you have struggled feeding your DS, but glad he is okay.
@Twopandemicpregnancies thats great! as for the potatoes - I hated mash but loved peas so my DM hid them under the mash so I had to dig for treasure. My DCs were the other way round, so I put the peas on the potatoes and made it a little game. Might be worth a shot?

I used to absolutely hate brussels sprouts as a child, love them now though!

The omega 3 30 pack is only £4.80 or £4.00 with a Clubcard. Perhaps they are just trying to discourage us from having cod.

myfaceismyown · 01/09/2022 12:17

@MibsXX That is funny how we change our tastes. I like a lot more things than I did as a child. I ate them but didn't like them. Brocolli and spinach for example - perhaps because DM boiled them to a pulp for an hour :) Incidentally I deliberately did the 15 rule with both DCs as my MIL told me my DH would eat nothing but custard pie crusts when he was 2. How they discovered this is lost in time, but I do think if you give kids only what they ask for they refuse to try other things. My adult DD has thanked me for giving her a wide variety of foods as it meant she could happily eat anything when out with friends, even if she did not particularly like it she was not embarrassed. She was given bread and dripping once, which she managed to force down, poor thing. (apologies if I offend anyone who thinks this is a treat) Your DS might just not like the taste of particular things to the point his tastebuds are overly sensitive, or have a gag reflex to certain textures, and there is nothing you, I, or the medical profession can suggest to change that. Just how he is. Hopefully a little more time will sort things out - doesn't seem to be affecting his academic ability, so well done to both of you.

See the teeny tinies are all aboard the ' two fish fingers per portion ' bus...😂😂😂😂

Cheeselog · 01/09/2022 12:41

I see a lot more competitive overeating than undereating on this thread. Eating what the pack says is a serving is normal. Eating an entire packet, as someone said their DH did, is not.

myfaceismyown · 01/09/2022 12:52

@Cheeselog I don't know what a cheeselog is, but am imagining a Yule log but made of different types of cheese. I now want one... Well just a slice!

Haha! I regret to inform you it’s something very different - the word for woodlouse where I live!

Apparently EVERYBODY in Guildford is calling wood lice 'cheesy bobs'

www.getsurrey.co.uk/lifestyle/fun-stuff/everyone-guildford-calling-wood-lice-10734063

and it's BRILLIANT - apparently!

Obviously not a lot going on in Guildford if this is the 'common bond' !

Will try hiding the peas in the mash - good idea, thanks!

Where do you shop? I use Amazon (Morrisons) they have 20 for £3 or 30 For £6.55 (which makes no sense coz it's cheaper to buy 2 x 20bpacks!) or if, like me, you prefer the cod ones to the omega 3 ones it's 10 for £3 -it is around £7.50 for a 20 pack of these but again it's cheaper to buy 2 10 packs!

cowbutt · 05/09/2022 15:21

I suggest making use of Trolley.co.uk before going shopping, to spot the deals and watch trends. No connection, but I did donate to help keep the site running.

www.trolley.co.uk/search/?from=search&q=30+fish+fingers gives some cheaper alternatives; £5.50 for 30 Cod fish fingers seems to be about the low end. The Bird's Eye ones could be had for £6.50 at the beginning of the year, but began rising to the current price in increments from May, or so. If you don't care about them being Cod, then Bird's Eye has their Omega 3 variety containing Pollock for £4.50, £4 from Tesco with a Clubcard, or two packs of 30 for £8 from Iceland.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2022 15:40

my dm amitted she ate just one fish finger, but her excuse is, they are from waitrose.

Duchess379 · 05/09/2022 17:07

If only there were other brands of beans available or other supermarkets? Oh, wait...

Tesco is an expensive supermarket and Heinz are expensive for beans and shit. But if you must have them, they're much cheaper in multipacks, so just buy a 4 pack once a month instead of a single can every week.

DogInATent · 03/10/2022 18:43

Paid £3.20 for 12 fishfingers in Tesco today. Bugger.
Fishfinger sandwiches for tea is now a treat.
