I was folding laundry in my bedroom and this chap fell out, across my wrist and onto the floor.

I'm thinking of ways to catch it safely without hurting its legs. Normally I'd put it in my hands and out the window. Not happening this time!

Does anyone know what type of spider this is?

And did I say, HELP!!!!

Agh we’ve had two of these in the house over the last two days. I am a serious arachnophobe, always have been since growing up near fields and regularly waking up with gigantic buggers at the bottom of my bed. I’m trying very hard not to pass this fear onto my DD but I think I’m already failing! Thankfully DH is our resident spider catcher / killer (he does sadly kill them sometimes depending on how tricky they are to reach).
I’m from up north and this is my first year living down south in nearly 15 years that I’ve encountered such big hairy scary ones on such a regular basis. I wonder if the never ending heatwaves we’ve encountered have bulked them up a bit?!

Get the VAX out or any other brand of hoover. Thats how to deal with the bigger ones as too much juice comes out of them if you use a tissue. I let spiders live but my DP and DD want them destroyed!

I've had no less than 3 of these in the last week. One was the size of my hand (in length not thickness obv) they seem a bit slow witted tbh. They don't even flinch when you're right beside them.

He’s getting on a bit now in age (hatched in September, and I got him in November).

When he passes, I’m going to get a female. They live longer and are slightly bigger.

@Soubriquet you should see the YouTubes of the Peacock jumping spiders dancing, if you haven't already. They're amazing.

It won't help just now but I bought a spider catcher from Lidl. It has a long handle so I'm never too close and it's humane and doesn't hurt them.

I don't want them in my bedroom but I don't want to hurt them either.

House spider. Won't hurt you but will eat pests. Keep it. Pretty sure there's one under my sofa :)

I haaaaaave. I would love to have one as a pet but they are illegal to be transported out of Australia.

Yes! There are plenty of spider breeders. You can get little jumping spiders right up to big tarantulas.
