ShockShock

I was folding laundry in my bedroom and this chap fell out, across my wrist and onto the floor.

I'm thinking of ways to catch it safely without hurting its legs. Normally I'd put it in my hands and out the window. Not happening this time!

Does anyone know what type of spider this is?

And did I say, HELP!!!!

Horror films play in that leg thing - John carpenters "the thing" when that blokes head stretches of the morgue gurney and grows legs .....🙈

IcakethereforeIam · 27/08/2022 20:54

I found one like that, in my shoe that I'd put on barefoot to pop out to the garden. I don't know who was more horrified. It didn't bite me, I just felt it tickling my toes.

stillvicarinatutu · 27/08/2022 20:55

Somethings else I always think they'll feel kinda crusty ? Dunno why 🤷🏻‍♀️.
I can handle tarantulas - but they're more like mice with lots of legs plus their slow ....

CaptainFlubby · 27/08/2022 20:55

You don’t swallow spiders when you yawn, or in your sleep. It’s a common myth. The actual amount of spiders you swallow is zero.

Not everyone is. I'd happily remove spiders against you. Any day.

however, I have the intelligence to know that people have phobias of all kinds of things, spiders are one of the most common things people have a phobia of.

don't you ever tire of just being so horrible/goady/sarcastic/belittling on threads? Is there not a site you'd prefer?

ooh bitchy, I like it.

Its a genuine question though, I want to understand why so many people are scared of spiders, it interests me.

Not sure what thread I pissed you off on but if you want to PM me with your grievences I'll happy reply :)

I caught one the other day. He was too big for the cup. I had to get a pint glass and even then he needed to pull his legs up to fit in (or lose a leg. His choice, I was not messing!)

He sat in his glass prison, glaring at me, giving me the stink eye all day (DH aka beast removals expert was due home at 8pm) but by dinner time the cat was trying to release him for what I can only imagine would be a gladiator style fight to the death in the arena of my living room.

A stiff drink later and locking the unhelpful feline in the bathroom, and with the help of a ripped up cardboard box I managed to wrangle the monster outside.

@CaptainFlubby

I know. Guess you can’t argue with stupid.

Honestly I know that, I was just being silly

mrsparsnip · 27/08/2022 20:58

It looks like a Giant House Spider (as others have said). The males come inside at this time of the year, looking for mates. You'll be safe, unless you have eight legs, eight eyes and live in a web.

ozymandiusking · 27/08/2022 21:00

You do know it will be a HOMING SPIDER!

cctvrec · 27/08/2022 21:04

I heard one running across my living room floor last year. I thought it was the cat or something. Do they wear boots?!?!
I miss my country cottage. Full to the brim of quiet, calm cellar spiders who barely moved anywhere and never saw a single fat bodied fucker in all the time we lived there.

Sammysees · 27/08/2022 21:05

I woke up to one of these on my left boob this morning. I think the whole street heard me screeching. After my blood pressure had returned to normal I found it in my bed and caught it in a Pyrex jug. Currently in bed with the hoover next to me (just in case!)

KittyCatsby · 27/08/2022 21:05

I was sat on the toilet the other evening and a big spider ran over my shoulder from my back ! not that size thank fuck

BecauseICan22 · 27/08/2022 21:06

He or she, is now safely in our back garden. The speed they move at is immense and bloody scary.

I do agree that the fear response is almost a compulsion. I jumped as it ran in different directions, even though it was running from me not towards me.

For those that asked for a size comparison, my apologies. I didn't see these requests until after I'd set my landlord free.
My 8 year old was so close in terms of studying the creature that I could actually have got a comparison shot in relation to her head and she has a big head!

Those saying kill it, I just couldn't. I don't believe I have the right to do that and other than staring at us, the spider was causing no harm.

Cannot get over the sheer size of it and once it was in the box, the thudding as it ran!

Holy shit. I'm not scared of spiders but that is Not Ok.

Changemaname1 · 27/08/2022 21:10

Oh they are early his year

house spider 😊

had two already here so far which I have vacated from bedrooms

pint glass job!

I wouldn’t say I have a phobia as such but anything above 10 pence size make my skin crawl and induce slight panic !

nooschmoo · 27/08/2022 21:11

It’s a Wolf Spider. They are sprinters-they don’t make a traditional web, they race down their prey.

Soubriquet · 27/08/2022 21:12

Wow that’s a big one.

Heres a photo of my pet spider. He’s called Artemis though we’ve shortened it down to Artie since we discovered he was male
