We Must Endure High Bills. Proud

MissHavershamJoinsTinder · 26/08/2022 07:45

AIBU to be proud of Boris Johnstone-in this matter-when said, while visiting Ukraine on their Independence Day, that we must endure high bills as remember that Ukraine are paying in blood.

I was worried about the soaring cost of bills-power/food but this made me stop and pause.

Aibu to think that we should all write down what he said and put it on the fridge to remind ourselves that it will be worth it. We're doing it for Ukraine and it is worse for them.

You're so right OP! Truly inspirational. I hope you don't mind, but I've taken the concept a little further and made a note for my own fridge.
'You might be bare and empty, as my money has all gone.
But somewhere there's a Tory saying I'm the lucky one.
I'll stiffen up my upper lip and never will complain and Boris will be proud of me, and toast me in Champagne!'
Please feel free to use my words OP if they bring you further comfort.

🤣🤣 normally I hate poems but this one is truly exceptional

Could we show our support for Ukraine by having a grown up energy policy which reduces our dependence on Russian imports?

Or should we stick to saying stupid shit about banning solar like Johnson and co?

orbitalcrisis · 26/08/2022 09:25

Surely there are more practical things we can do to help Ukraine than freeze or starve to death over the winter?

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/08/2022 09:25

Letting our vulnerable people suffer will definitely help Ukraine in its struggle.

We aren’t dependent on Russian gas/oil. We don’t import any of it. When the war broke out, we reduced the 4% we did import to 0%.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/08/2022 09:25

No, it doesn’t make me proud. I’m guessing that you can afford your energy bills?

JennyForeigner · 26/08/2022 09:26

HelloThereObiWan · 26/08/2022 08:33

Germany are far more dependent on Russian oil than we are and their bills only rose by 23%.

Energy firms in this country started collapsing in October 2021, several months before Russia invaded Ukraine.

BP have made billions, not millions, BILLIONS in profit from North Sea Gas.

Let's stop pretending this is all about Ukraine. It isn't. It's about shareholders dividends and CEO pay coming before the need of Joe Public being able to afford to live comfortably in Tory Britain.

Well said.

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 09:26

People like the Royals and most of our politicians won't be too worried about the bills.
Unlike the majority of our population !

FFS!
Look it up before you imply I've made it up.
Google his name+Ukraine+price rise+endure.
It was covered everywhere from ITV to Daily Telegraph.

Then, when you read it for yourselves drop the "piss-taking" comments and say if it makes you proud-will bring some comfort of not.

For me, it makes me proud and will bring some comfort. AIBU

I wonder about your sanity..but I was going to post something much ruder.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 26/08/2022 09:29

Surely OP is being sarcastic?

If not I hate to break it to you but the extra profits energy companies make are not going to Ukraine.

WotsitsQuavers · 26/08/2022 09:30

Tory troll farm.

NancyBellaDonna · 26/08/2022 09:30

He's a lair, a cheat, a thief and a traitor.
The worst PM we have ever had.
He can fuck off and die.

I'll put the on my fridge.

RainWindandSnowFlakes · 26/08/2022 09:31

JennyForeigner · 26/08/2022 09:26

Well said.

It’s exactly this. And it’s a damaged disgrace and needs sorting.
its all part of the plan though, no holidays for ordinary people, no travel, at all, as you won’t be able to afford it, how we will eat and heat I’ve not idea.
i figure we can get to November without heat, but the next few months, we’ll be burning the carpet in the garden at this rate, and standing round it for light and warmth

ShowOfHands · 26/08/2022 09:31

Did you just type hashtag?

Nice touch. Well done 👏

poetryandwine · 26/08/2022 09:31

Hi, OP -

@SilverGlitterBaubles has made most of my points, in particular the one about the French cap that you have acknowledged.

What about the massive, record breaking profits our energy companies are taking? She and other PPs have discussed this. We have the least regulated energy sector in Europe.

All of this stands beside my deep sympathy for the Ukrainian people and my willingness to make some sacrifice for them. But this is an utter piss take. People in the U.K. will pay for the greed of the Tories and their friends with their lives and in contrast to Ukraine there is nothing noble about it.

Cleothecat75 · 26/08/2022 09:33

I’d be proud to think that the the energy company profits were being put to good work in Ukraine. I will not be proud to sit with my dc (including one who is disabled) in a cold house proposing to play yet another board game while they are asking if we can go somewhere fun and me having to say no as we can’t afford it, whilst giving them another meal made from cheap and reduced food. That will not make me proud. It makes me anything but proud.

Downnotdown · 26/08/2022 09:33

Looks like Nadine has changed her username again 😉

DahliaMacNamara · 26/08/2022 09:34

The day Boris sacrifices his own financial security and goes without for the greater good will be the day I think he's anything more than a spoiled dilettante who should never have been allowed anywhere near government.

OP

Noone thinks you.made it up.

The piss taking is because the majority of people think Boris says and does whatever he can for popularity and noone buys his bullshit anymore. Some people may think this is a stirring thread because they are struggling to believe you've fallen for Borris" rubbish.

It's easier for Borris to say - "do it for ukraine' and try make us all believe no matter how hard it is, we are doing it to help out poo rcomrades who have it worse. (It also reminds everyone he's the pm who altruistically wants to look out for Ukraine')

However, this is all rubbish. Borris has no altruistic bones in his body. He should ask the big energy companies to 'do.it for ukraine' if he's that moral. Not the british people. However, he won't because he's a Tory. The rich get richer and sod everyone else.

I'm sorry but most of us don't buy his rubbish anymore. The fuel crisis is not about helping Ukraine. Borris needs to grow some balls and face up to the energy compnaies.

Borris has completely failed us. How the hell can we all stump up thousands of pounds from.nowhere??? Not to mention the NHS has gone down the toilet, the cost of living in all other ways has sky rocketed. His PM period has been a total disaster for the UK but he wants to go out like Churchill - the war PM.

54isanopendoor · 26/08/2022 09:36

Am I, in principle, prepared to 'stand up to Putin' in his attempts to bully Europe into not supporting Ukraine in his illegal war on them? Yes. But, that is not where my money will be going. It's not as simple as that.

Also: I simply dont HAVE it to 'give to brave Ukraine'. I am a Carer. The Govt gives me £68 per week (topped up by some income support). Where does the Ukraine support money COME FROM in my budget? It doesn't as it's not actually there.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 26/08/2022 09:36

Jesus OP are you really that thick. Ukraine are paying in blood so suck it up? In 2019 there were in excess of 8,500 deaths due to cold homes when the price cap was dropped to £1,179 to help avoid such a situation. The price cap is now more than 3 times this at £3,549. So by this time next year you will see just how much the vulnerable people of this country have paid in blood.

SavingsThreads · 26/08/2022 09:36

OP if this isn't a troll post, then I don't think you understand what is going on. I suggest you read around it more, including links others have posted.

It's not about 'enduring higher bills', it's about your neighbours dying from the cold or lack of food over winter.

Because the government have chosen not to do anything to help mitigate the consequences of supporting Ukraine. Entirely possible to reduce gas dependence on Russia without plunging millions into poverty - look at how France and Spain have approached this.

ohholyday · 26/08/2022 09:37

Why are people blaming the Tories?

As if Labour would have done anything differently in the last 2 years?

Cosycover · 26/08/2022 09:37

Why is it only us who need to endure it? Please do answer that OP. Why not everyone? Why just the UK?

dalisdrippingclock · 26/08/2022 09:38

When energy companies stop making record profits we can talk about our sacrifices for Ukraine. In the meantime, we are being thrown under the bus for shareholders.
