To have been on my phone while driving

Okay okay… I know I was being unreasonable but I want to know what might happen next

I was Driving from nursery drop-off to pick up a prescription - turned onto the road where the doctors surgery and pharmacy are located.

I got a call from nursery and answered using hands free in my car but it wasn’t connecting so I picked up my phone from the seat next to me. I spoke to my daughters key worker briefly (around 30 seconds) while driving about 5mph slowly into a car park.

I noticed a man in a parked car (he was parked mounted on the kerb and idling!!!) was very obviously talking to his passenger about me being on the phone while driving and looked like he was taking a photo of me! He was holding his phone up sideways in my direction.

What will happen if he reports me? As I said I know what I did was wrong but he was also breaking the law by sitting there with his engine on!

that video just shows the lies "I do it when i'm stopped" yeah right but you saw n the video she wasn't stopped, didn't stop to let the pedestrians cross - as she never saw them and she never noticed being filmed for a few minutes whilst driving - not stopped.

People lie about using a phone whilst "stuck" in traffic, they are moving and not paying attention to what is happening around them

Have you never had a child in nursery? Or a child anywhere? Or a tiny bit of imagination?

Why even LOOK at the phone when you're driving.
5 minutes to stop and call back if urgent is really neither here nor there.

Police officer here. Attended several horrific RTCs as a result of someone being on their phone 'only for a few seconds' it's all it takes.

Please don't use your phone while driving.

This is only too true. I’m very concerned at the idea that a bad accident can’t happen whilst turning into a car park. My FIL was killed in a car accident whilst doing exactly that. He wasn’t using a mobile phone, but somehow missed the car that hit him.

It’s obviously a very rare event, but if you’re not 100% concentrating as a driver, you can miss seeing what other road users are doing.

@mummyh2016

You said

The only difference imo is that you're using 1 hand to hold the phone. In terms of distraction it's the same. Only difference is it's legal to use hands free.

Oh come on, you don't sound like you've thought about reaction time at all! The comment you made is pretty daft to be honest.

The main thing distraction causes when driving is a delay in reaction time. Pretty obvious really, I'm still unsure why I needed to state it. You know it, I know it, and I'm pretty sure if I popped a new thread on here asking what the biggest concern is relating to distractions when driving the answers would be reaction times.

@Farmmum77
Yes you can. I know of two toddlers in my local area, killed by a slow moving car on their own driveways. One was reversing & one going forwards.
Please do not ever underestimate the force of a vehicle at any speed.
Please don't be so ignorant to the dangers
