Forward of another email re something which has gone wrong whilst I’ve been on annual leave

Then her email to me “this has REALLY PISSED ME OFF - very disappointed”

That old annual leave anxiety is back in full force

Thats unrealisable isn’t it? The email?

OP posts:

Annual leave anxiety is awful isn’t it? If it was me I’d go back with a simple ‘thanks, x is relatively new to their role but I’ll look into this when I’m back from leave’. You aren’t able to control everything a team does and some mistakes are unavoidable/realistic with new staff. Your post suggested to me that this is really a bigger issue as around your fears of disappointing people. Perhaps one for some personal counselling at some time, MIND and others offer free sessions that could help here if this is something that affects you so badly everytime you take leave.

Briocche · 22/08/2022 18:15

I wasn’t responsible for the thing which went wrong but my team are so therefore I am.

I know I shouldn’t be checking emails but my stomach is in knots most of the time if I don’t

You need to find a new job, any job which causes anxiety like this is toxic. I’ve had job like this and never again it made me unwell.

Zanatdy · 17/11/2022 06:51

Wow, I’d never ever speak to any of my team like that. Always keep emails professional and courteous.

If you’re still on annual leave, set your email to respond with “out of office”
If/ when you get back to work, respond with a “not as pissed off and disappointed that my annual leave was ruined by emails from the office, if I’m THAT indispensable, you’ll be screwed when I go somewhere else” and find another job.

My personal revenge for being hassled while on day off/ annual leave, is to return the favour. Inundate the boss with phone calls and queries that “can’t wait” until they get back into the office. Don’t stop them, until they get the message. It genuinely does work. My son did it as well, and he worked nights, while the manager worked days 😂 they kept ringing him, and waking him at lunchtime, so he started ringing them at 2am.

Zombie thread.

Runningintolife · 17/11/2022 08:05

So, she's not really disappointed in you, she's disappointed in herself. And no wonder, because she is unprofessional and incapable. Read her future emails through this lens, with pity. You can't solve her problem by jumping through her hoops because the problem is herself. You can't avoid her rude emails because they are her norm. So treat them as not your problem. But do utilise the jobs pages and any formal grievance policies.

PrincessJanet · 17/11/2022 08:11

MN are trolling their own site now with these Zombie threads.

GoonerGirl5231 · 17/11/2022 08:20

But you are not responsible if you are on annual leave. The responsibility lies with whoever is overseeing your team in your absence – either your deputy or your boss. They are absolutely out of order to email such an unprofessional comment while you are off, the tone is so bullying.

I would send an email back saying 'I cannot be expected to deal with this now. I am on leave.' and CC in HR so there's a trail.

LaGioconda · 17/11/2022 08:21

Something tells me OP probably finished her leave around 2.5 months ago.

GoonerGirl5231 · 17/11/2022 08:21

Ugh. Zombie thread. MN is rubbish at the moment.

Practice breathing deeply, shrugging and saying "not my problem".

"Not my problem. Not my problem. Not my problem. Not my problem."

Because it's not. It's not your problem.

SirMingeALot · 17/11/2022 09:13

I think it's that 'you might be interested in' feature. I've looked at threads and not realised they were a few months old.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 17/11/2022 09:18

MNHQ need to sort out that shitty feature or we’ll be inundated with shitty zombie threads forevermore!

Please can you read the whole thread before responding to a topic that was started back in August and has been dealt with before posting your own suggestion?

Maybe we should start reporting every zombie thread, then they might decide to do something about it. So annoying.

Gumreduction · 17/11/2022 10:31

I don’t have an issue with zombie threads 🤷‍♀️ sometimes the issue itself is worth having a chat about irrespective of what the op has or hasn’t done

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 17/11/2022 11:07

I don’t have an issue per se, and I don’t think old threads should be locked - I’ve seen many updates from OPs years after the fact, in many cases, that were brilliant and very useful. But this feature could potentially mean every topic becoming cluttered with masses of old threads which would be very very irritating. Many of them won’t be interesting, useful or beneficial to dredge up.
