All the polls say she is ahead of sunak but I’m dreading her getting into power. Can anyone think of any positives as I’m struggling. I’m not that keen on sunak but given the choice I’d much rather him.

She's bloody awful,as are all the Tories, for the life if me I cannot comprehend why people vote for them, unless they are completely selfish and don't give a fuck about everyone else. It's a shitshow, that Labour should have jumped all over but they seem to be spineless right now.

Grantanow · 21/08/2022 09:23

Boris in skirts and with zero charm. Obviously an ideal Tory Prime Minister. She is so detached from reality that she is a serious risk for ordinary folk in the UK. But she will be so unpopular as to guarantee a Starmer victory in 2024 so long as Labour stop fighting like cats in a bag.

Elodie09 · 21/08/2022 10:16

@user1471453601 I agree with you. I was saying similar to friends the other day. If there is no money "coming upwards " from people how are the Richy-rich going to make profit if everyone is at home huddling under blankets?

Truss's proposed tax cuts should help them out significantly don't forgetConfused

Givemesunshines · 20/08/2022 23:38

lljkk do you think that boris will be pm again ?

yeah, sadly, I do expect that. It's not what I want & I'm not a pessimist, but it seems very likely to me he'll be back. Even now the Tory party members wish BJ was on the ballot. Truss is saying she'll dismantle the powers of the Privileges committee to make sure BJ can't be barred from being an MP. Why? Usually PMs dread having their predecessors on back benches. They're afraid of upsetting BJ supporters. If/when Truss looks like electoral loser, red-wall Tories will clamour to have BJ back to keep their seats.

And Because they know. BJ isn't done in the Commons. Not by a Long Shot.

Those tax cuts are pence to the people the next few months are going to just most. She might as well not bother, they won’t touch the sides.

Tiani4 · 20/08/2022 13:57

She'll be great for the country if everyone dislikes her and votes Labour next year!!
I just hope she doesn't do much damage in the meantime

This - I imagine the tories will implode before a GE or there'll be another leadership contest. If not though, I can't see Truss winning a GE. Just hope she's allowed to do minimal fucking damage before then

Think you missed my point.. tax cuts equals pence to the average person for sure, but the 'Richy- rich' Elodie09 and i were referring to will benefit bigtime!

Happy to let them if it sees the Tories off for a generation. Small price to pay.

Sporty2022 · 21/08/2022 22:09

I imagine the next Tory leader ( Truss) will survive two years. Unless a vote of no confidence happens. Or serious calls for a GE.

The Tories won’t want a GE now, so they’ll let Liz Truss carry on until then.
By then most of those shysters in the cabinet would have been looking for alternative jobs with their mates in the city. And leave the shit for another government to tidy up. Because they know they probably won’t win , or lose a majority government.

Weirdly those that want Truss to be the new leader probably know she won’t win an election.

The Tories are fucked- they lost Boris and Brexit is done. They’ve nothing to offer.

Oh don't be stupid. It's this kind of tribalism that has brought us to the point we are.
/ never voted conservative before everyone jumps on me

@Ilovemycatalot

So what of this do you object to?

Tribalism is a problem, on the left mostly.

Fuck me, it's just like Trump in the US

Why do we always copy them? 🤔

GreenLunchBox · 21/08/2022 22:52

I hope there isn't an early GE because the Tories need to own this mess

I like Liz Truss. She works hard, is sensible and has always done a better job than people expected.
of course, compared to intellectual giants like Rayner and Abboot, she’s a bit lacking.

Satire, surely?

They have no choice, whenever the next election is, they’ve been in power for 12 years. Who else is to blame?

Lonelycrab · 21/08/2022 23:34

Tribalism is a problem, on the left mostly

No I don’t think so. Brexit and the culture wars both have tribalism as a foundation. Those were both created by the right, not the left and couldn’t exist without splitting opinions. Both were brought to you by Tory’s and their supporting newspapers, and those things are directing this country right now, so they clearly have more effect than anything going on from “the left”

People from the left, right and centre are realising Brexit was shit because of the simple fact… it is! That’s not tribalism, it’s reality. The reality that the country has been royally fucked over for the vast majority of us.

So I don’t agree that tribalism from the left or anywhere else is the main problem. Tribalism from the right is in fact the only tool left to that party and has been shaping this country for years now, divide people and get them angry and harness that anger to take you… well pretty much anywhere you like because those people are angry and they’ll listen to any old bullshit without properly scrutinising it.

The end result is we have a hard right government on our plate now and the people that support that don’t even realise what that entails.

Sporty2022 · 22/08/2022 21:01

Did anyone see Labour MP Barry Gardiner almost in tears at an interview today? He spoke from he heart, and with honesty. The rally was called Enough is enough, I believe.

Were seeing two potential Tory leaders parading themselves about how right wing they will be whilst a tiny proportion of the country gets a say in it.

CardiffMam · 22/08/2022 21:04

She'll be great for the Scottish and Welsh independence cause and Labour will win the next General Election. (Can't believe anyone would vote for her!!)

SerendipityJane · 22/08/2022 22:21

Fuck me, it's just like Trump in the US

Trumps problems haven't even begin yet. He's already looking at more charges being added to the sheet thanks to his supporters "helping" him. Notice how quiet a certain Farage has gone about his best mate.

ShesNotTheMessiah · 23/08/2022 08:28

Seeing Trump fall is just about the only glimmer of light left Grin

I imagine they'll try to put a few electoral bribes in place before the next election. But they can't really afford to do enough by way of bribes to outweigh inflation, fuel price rises, or what we know via the evidence of our own eyes on the deterioration in the NHS and schools.

BronzeSage · 23/08/2022 13:05

Yes I think she will be the worst option, but they are both really right wing compared to the Tories of a decade ago. There will be no taxes collected, then she can throw up her hands and say, this is what you wanted! The public services, including the NHS, will fall apart.

The Tories these days are destructive nasty fuckers, and I am really angry about it. Even our next door neighbour's young doctor son, who is not from a rich family, says that they are all fuming and talking of retraining, because of overwork and under £10 an hour pay under the new contract, with humongous loans to pay back. And don't even get me started on Brexit, energy prices and the rest. They have fucked this country.

Change123today · 23/08/2022 13:14

if Truss is in Conservative out. Though they were on there way out anyway …so Truss will be the fall person. It’s just what damage she could do once in place …shudder

I do get annoyed at times that Labour just seem so silent but then I realise they don’t have to say anything the conservatives really are doing it to themselves no additional commentary required.

Sporty2022 · 28/08/2022 12:27

She’s not so far said anything that will help with the energy crisis has she?
If she doesn’t help she must be some kind of psychopath.
