CF Have come to stay - The morning after

SeriouslyLosingTheWill · 19/08/2022 22:33

The first thread is full so I'll start a new one, in case there is a dramatic update in the morning.

I actually feel emotionally drained right now. I keep almost crying. Pathetic. Probably the wine thats doing that.

I'll be going to bed shortly and i'll update tomorrow if theres anything to add. I reckon they will be up early and go quietly though.

They don't drive a ford ranger (I remember that thread! haven't looked at a ford ranger driver the same since!) Its a bmw something or other.

Dp cleared up the kitchen and 1 dc (dd19) came down and helped, so thats all good. She then came out, gave me a little hug and said DP had explained about the food. She then lit up and offered me a cigarette (WTF! I don't smoke and although had an inkling wasn't sure she did) and said no ones perfect, everyone has failings. Honestly i'm in a parallel universe tonight.

Dp has put most of the beers away in the garage, just left in the fridge what was there. I do wonder if they will take them home.

Heres the first one if anyone wants to catch up as not sure I can give a proper summery right now www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4614982-cf-have-come-to-stay-how-to-handle-it?page=23&reply=119364945

OP posts:

I honestly don’t underhand people like this.

Doesn’t it occur to them that they never get invited back anywhere?

EdithStourton · 20/08/2022 00:50

Having endured seriously CFery from ILs, I can quite believe this happened.

Well done, OP.

RenegadeMatron · 20/08/2022 00:50

Nobody’s asking you to believe it @treesandweeds

Ncfreely · 20/08/2022 00:50

@Flumpaphone this is me too. It’s bloody amazing just simply not giving a shit anymore!

MaxHodgeheg · 20/08/2022 00:50

Well done

Sswhinesthebest · 20/08/2022 00:51

If only you were a fly on their bedroom wall tonight op.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 20/08/2022 00:58

I wish I could say I can't believe someone would go and spend £100+ for one meal and try and pass it off to their hosts, but sadly I can.

Good luck for the morning.

Hop27 · 20/08/2022 01:00

OP - don't forget to hide the good butter!!!!

Soundoftheundergroun81 · 20/08/2022 01:00

You go girl 🤛💪 you done well in that situation but please tell us you’re sleeping with the beers, wines and croissants in your bedroom so they can’t take them in the morning. X

HermioneKipper · 20/08/2022 01:00

What a pair of absolute bastards. You’ve been a saint not to boot them out days ago.

Hope they leave as early as possible. If they ask where the croissants are say you ate them all last night and drank the rest of the wine/ beer

Soundoftheundergroun81 · 20/08/2022 01:03

And if they ask again for you to pay for the shopping bill then ask them to pay you for the holiday let they have had the past 4 days I’m sure they’ll shut up

Haus1234 · 20/08/2022 01:04

Good work OP! Star

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 20/08/2022 01:05

Well done —just like your steaks—

AhNowTed · 20/08/2022 01:14

The absolute neck of them!

For context OP.

We recently invited 2 friends to stay with us on our holiday for a couple of days.

We'd paid anyway regardless so there was no question of asking them to contribute to the cost of the cottage. It was our holiday and they were our invited guests.

They turned up with:
A CASE of wine
Charcuterie, olives, cheeses and other nice stuff.
The makings of a full English breakfast.

We're staying with them on their holiday in Sept and we will do likewise.

I can't believe they had the brass neck to leave the receipt out, expecting you to pay. And the double brass neck of following up. Unbelievable.

I think you’re a legend! Cheeky buggers. They are just miffed that they got caught out

Tallulah1972 · 20/08/2022 01:24

OP…I don’t know you, but I am so proud of you! You & your oh…bloody brilliant! I hate confrontation, too, but you found that inner strength…whether it be from MN or wine…or a mixture of both…& you nailed it! You are like She-Ra! You can do anything! 💪

Revengers · 20/08/2022 01:27

Well done OP, you did amazing!! They were absolutely in the wrong and you did well to stand up for yourself and your family! X

Scottishskifun · 20/08/2022 01:46

You did brilliantly and look at the silver lining you have found aome inner strength that you take going forward so hopefully will never be in this position again.

We visit friends who refuse to accept us buying food etc so we always bring the wine and nibbles.
Even when we visit my parents we put money into their account for shopping as its expensive for extra mouths to feed!

Fraaahnces · 20/08/2022 01:53

I’m so impressed with you! My CF relatives “informed” me when they intended to travel to where we were then living in the Netherlands. (We’re all from Aus, btw..) They intended to use our place as a base while they were travelling with their FOUR KIDS. And just do day trips and short stops for SIX MONTHS! I explained that that wouldn’t work for us as our house was far too small to accommodate everyone. They then informed me that it would be fine if they could “just moor their motorhome at our place”. (Using our water and power of course.) Had to advise them that it was illegal to do that on the street where we lived and had no driveway. Never
mind, they decided our back garden would be fine. I had to tell them that they’d have to invest in a boat as our garden was backed onto a canal. They came to visit for four nights and ate our food and guzzled our wine and pissed myself and DH off immensely. On the last night, I decided to buy only one bottle of wine to see if they would bring some of their own. (May have deliberately chosen Fat Bastard wine too.) Anyhow, we had a glass each and the moment my DH came home from work, she snaffled the bottle and went to pour it in her glass. I put my hand over hers and said “How about we save some for the guy who’s paid for everything so far?” She looked very out out, but clunked it down on the table. She looked at her DH and said, “Oh well, we have more in the van. We can have it after dinner.” They didn’t help clean up after dinner, but of course popped off to their van and didn’t come back with any wine either.”

CuriousMama · 20/08/2022 02:00

Well done. I hate people like this.

absolutelyanythingwilldo · 20/08/2022 02:01

Honestly the best thread I've ever read on MN. Well done OP, your updates never disappointed.

Vecna · 20/08/2022 02:04

This is really competent mumsnetting! 5 stars.

I'm sure it's been very uncomfortable and upsetting to have that confrontation, but you have to look on the bright side: you've given satisfaction to thousands of people 💐

MamaH22 · 20/08/2022 02:13

Amazing OP! Just amazing 😆👏

RobertsRadio · 20/08/2022 02:13

BMW6 · 19/08/2022 22:58

I think you should all gather outside to wave them off with huge grins, after you've said " well I'd like to say it's been a pleasure to have you stay with us, but as you've been dreadful freeloading fuckers I can't "

🤣🤣🤣
