CF Have come to stay - The morning after

SeriouslyLosingTheWill · 19/08/2022 22:33

The first thread is full so I'll start a new one, in case there is a dramatic update in the morning.

I actually feel emotionally drained right now. I keep almost crying. Pathetic. Probably the wine thats doing that.

I'll be going to bed shortly and i'll update tomorrow if theres anything to add. I reckon they will be up early and go quietly though.

They don't drive a ford ranger (I remember that thread! haven't looked at a ford ranger driver the same since!) Its a bmw something or other.

Dp cleared up the kitchen and 1 dc (dd19) came down and helped, so thats all good. She then came out, gave me a little hug and said DP had explained about the food. She then lit up and offered me a cigarette (WTF! I don't smoke and although had an inkling wasn't sure she did) and said no ones perfect, everyone has failings. Honestly i'm in a parallel universe tonight.

Dp has put most of the beers away in the garage, just left in the fridge what was there. I do wonder if they will take them home.

Heres the first one if anyone wants to catch up as not sure I can give a proper summery right now www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4614982-cf-have-come-to-stay-how-to-handle-it?page=23&reply=119364945

Just read your update. I'm glad they've gone. At least they said thank you. But never again shall they darken your door.

AryaStarkWolf · 20/08/2022 10:15

Oh Lord, I don't think I could have biten my tongue when they made the comment about not helping because they were on holiday and relaxing 😅 well done though OP

Shaaameless · 20/08/2022 10:15

If this is true I blame the H. Who would invite their ex wife’s family to stay when the wife’s never even met them? Should they agree to this the first thing you would ask is how long for. After a few days & the fact that they turned up without the sick kid, you would say something.

Cheeky fucker

I always thought it meant 'cunt face'

QueenLagertha · 20/08/2022 10:16

Amazing thread. You and your DP are absolute legends

Youaremysunshine14 · 20/08/2022 10:17

Apparently they didn’t realise they were needed to help out because they were on holiday and holidays are meant to be to relax.

So they genuinely expected to be waited on hand and foot? Bloody hell! If they wanted that, they should've booked into a hotel. Glad they apologised for being CFers.

imnotthatkindofmum · 20/08/2022 10:17

@Galvanisethis nah, that's a term of endearment in my house ❤️🤣

It doesn't but I may start calling my DP that......

badhappening · 20/08/2022 10:20

Just saw update.
Flowers, chocolates, and a thank you.
It doesn’t matter one bit - because you know their true colours.

@Galvanisethis I believe the two are interchangeable...

WimpoleHat · 20/08/2022 10:21

Ummm - that’s why they have hotels and you pay a chunky bill at the end. Bloody hell! Still - at least they’ve gone and you won’t have to see them again. And at least your DP had your back too; that counts for something and it can be one of those family jokes that lasts for years……

billy1966 · 20/08/2022 10:21

OP,
Great to read that you have learned from this, good for you.

Also that your partner has apologised, he indeed should be mortified.

They probably reflected that they should keep you onside for a possible next visit and leave you sweet.

Hardly surprising when they were so well looked after.

You felt tearful last night in reaction to sheer surpressed rage and fury at having yourself and your home so disrespected.

It must be awful to have your home tainted by such ghastly grifter type people and feel powerless to get them out.

The release of pent up adrenaline would have been huge.

Reading up on Assertiveness would probably be very beneficial for you and would build on this experience while its raw.

Being calmly assertive and not allowing yourself to be used and abused is so good for your general MH.

viques · 20/08/2022 10:21

I can imagine the conversation as they tried to decide the exact level of meanness to go to with regard to the chocs and flowers. Let’s face it most people would have taken advantage of the Tesco trip yesterday to buy a generous Thankyou gift, especially since (at the time) they thought they were getting a free steak dinner courtesy of the OP.

It was obviously a very late and not very gracious thought.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 20/08/2022 10:24

Hope you managed some sleep op. I also hope the CF have fucked off by now

MummyofTw0 · 20/08/2022 10:25

Gosh what nightmare guests

LookItsMeAgain · 20/08/2022 10:25

Well done @SeriouslyLosingTheWill - You handled the situation brilliantly last night and this morning, all that was required was a "Bye bye, don't let the door hit you on the way out" type of farewell.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Except they didn't know they were leaving at that point

custardbear · 20/08/2022 10:30

Result! You need to get your DH to let his ex wife know so they don't adjust history

Well done. Glad they’re gone, and you have flowers and chocolates. I’m sure teen DC will polish off the chocs if you don’t fancy them!

Sounds to me like Mrs CF is the worst (asking for the receipt to be paid, not making a cuppa for you , the shouting down the stairs about the steak and helping out) and Mr CF - whilst still very entitled! - has potentially calmed things a bit. Interesting to know which of them is the ex-wife’s relative…

They obviously needed an excuse for being entitled lazy gits but I’d ignore that, don’t dwell on it.

Anyway, done now. Enjoy your weekend, CR free!

The state of the pair of them. What a pathetic excuse about not realising they needed to help out! Not helping out is one thing, but eating and drinking all around you at the host's expense and contributing nothing is another. They are a total disgrace. Well done for not acknowledging the chocs and flowers, yet more pathetic behaviour from them

Please do something really nice for yourself today, you more than deserve it.

IncompleteSenten · 20/08/2022 10:33

🙄 you should have pointed out that normally on holiday you pay for your food and accommodation.

They knew they were taking the piss.
