Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

@TeddyTonks Ditto! 9 months pregnant whilst attending to a four year old and a two year old who don’t seem to feel the heat and understand it’s not that I don’t want to move right now its more of a case that I CAN’T move right now. It’s so encompassing and draining.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 14/08/2022 17:16

I'm in the North West and today it's peaked at 33°. I absolutely love this weather apart from the hot nights but i totally sympathise with those who really struggle in the heat. We're not all the same, some will enjoy hot weather others won't, we can all be mindful and care how it is affecting others. Tomorrow is meant to be significantly cooler here (25°).

Lipsandlashes · 14/08/2022 17:17

@LuckySantangelo35 sorry but you are coming across as v annoying and smug on this thread. It is literally a moan for people who hate this hot weather. We’re all different and we all have different intolerances. Most people do not love this level and duration of heat

EpidermolysisBullosa · 14/08/2022 17:18

I hate it. I have EB which causes fragile skin which blisters easily. It's so much worse in hot weather (24 degrees plus). I have to really ration my activities and pace myself, especially with walking.

Hot weather can cause people with lots of health conditions a whole host of problems. Unfortunately people who don't experience these issues often don't understand this. I have a reasonable adjustment to WFH in hot weather but people still chunter. Would much rather I just had normal skin tbh!

I'm very ready for autumn now so I can go outside properly and enjoy a good walk without having to stay home for days afterwards to let my feet recover! Nice walks in crispy cold weather, crunching leaves underfoot and enjoying my jumpers and tights and cupping mugs of hot tea in my hands. Glorious.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 14/08/2022 17:18

I feel for all you pregnant ladies, i am a Mum of 7 and i know only too well how hot weather and being pregnant (especially heavily pregnant) is very draining and difficult 💐

henni85 · 14/08/2022 17:19

I’m on 3 different medications that make me more sensitive to heat/dehydration, and I’m 15 weeks pregnant! I am beyond fucking done with it! I would also like my toddler to start eating and sleeping again

sick to death of the moaning about the heat, its ridiculous. There are ways and means of making yourself cooler without fuss

wet a sarong and pop round you and stand or sit in front of a fan for a while

pop flannels in the freezer, wet and then drape round your neck

trap the cool air in the house in the morning before 8am and close the windows and curtains to keep the cooler air

Not sure my boss would be keen on me sitting in a wet sarong on my office chair😄
We have fans at work and at home but they're mostly just blowing the warm air around.

Yes, I have just looked up the cost of getting a pool installed; £80k. Seriously, £80 bloody thousand. I know people that have paid not much more than that for a whole bloody house with a pool in Spain.

Please share where?

I really doubt your claim is why I ask.

TBF, I see loads of posts in cold months where people hate winter and feel suffering in the wet and cold - where plenty pop on to declare their love of sub zero temps and torrential rain.

Maybe so and I’m sure they get the same kind of response when they do!

carefullycourageous · 14/08/2022 17:26

I am actually feeling OK, I do not like the heat and much prefer much cooler weather but it has been manageable.

But the worry over the drought, the wild fires and general climate change is pretty hard, I just feel so sad/angry that all the stupid cunts pretended it wasn't happening for so long and now we are where we are.

StaplesCorner · 14/08/2022 17:27

I’ve lost days to this heat it really affects my ability to cope and gives me dizziness, plus DD has severe MH issues and it makes her delusional 😞

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 14/08/2022 17:28

I’ve spent more time in the cold shower than anywhere else. I’m a winter person as it is but this heat and having awful morning sickness at 8 weeks pregnant has pushed me well over the edge

KangarooKenny · 14/08/2022 17:31

I look forward to frosty mornings and scraping my car.

sanityisamyth · 14/08/2022 17:33

rumred · 14/08/2022 15:13

Nah I like it. Probably because I imagine there's a good 6 months of cold wet weather on its way.
I will enjoy this while it lasts

This. I hate autumn and winter. I hate the dark mornings and short evenings.

Em308 · 14/08/2022 17:33

Absolutely sick of it, anything above 25 is just too much for me (heat intolerance due to meds)(and fatness). I’ve spent the last week in front of an air con unit, plus employing all the techniques to keep cool and cool the house. Today’s just got me though, feel sick and my heart has been going crazy with ectopic beats. Don’t know why it’s suddenly affected me so bad, maybe lack of sleep? recently started hrt and suffering period pains? Roll on Tuesday!

DillDanding · 14/08/2022 17:34

I am so sick of it. I don’t know anyone that actually likes it. Old, young or in between- everyone I meet is moaning and fed up.

I have everything crossed that this coming week will see the end of it.

You do realise some of us work outdoors and can't swan around in a wet sarong. It's unbearable outside and no possibility of any shade.

Hi there, sorry we had to delete your post, please could you start a new thread?

OP, I think you've accidentally posted on wrong thread, have asked MNHQ to move but you might want to start another thread of you own, ? in Chat possibly

Best wishes

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 14/08/2022 17:39

I love it…it makes me happy. I feel the cold really badly though. When I’m sat in 19 layers in winter because I can’t afford to be putting the heating on for long I shall be looking back at summer with wistfulness.

JustSortYoursefOut · 14/08/2022 17:40

I'm bloody sick of this heat. My house is a tip and it's too hot to clean up. I've got masses of ironing, and I'm too hot to do it. My ankles, feet, lower legs and fingers are puffed up beyond belief. HATE IT

BigSkies2022 · 14/08/2022 17:41

Another autumn/winter person here. I always find those seasons more energising and enjoyable - I like the clothes much better too. But I would enjoy working in my garden and planning excursions in more normal summer weather. This persistent heat and drought has resulted in zero activity (apart from the bare minimum) and boredom. I feel fat because I'm not moving around and exercising as I usually would, and I'm eating more, and badly, out of boredom and frustration.

To continue the moan, my husband is Australian, and manages much better in the heat. So I feel like I"m behaving like some pathetic frost princess, drooping around.

We are at least in agreement that we need to escape the urban heat island and this kind of summer is a prompt to set a time horizon!

By up north I mean Scotland…

Well it’s 28 in Glasgow

CPL593H · 14/08/2022 17:42

My DH has just asked anxiously what the matter was because he thought I was crying.

Nah, just the Niagara Falls coming off my forehead.

Eeksteek · 14/08/2022 17:42

I’m loving it, but I recognise I’m very lucky. I’ve built my business around term times, so I don’t have to do much work, and just hanging out the garden with the kiddo. The dogs don’t care at all, they just nap through the day and I walk them after dinner. Although I’ve had to let most of the allotment go through lack of water (no mains up there) which is a great shame. We badly, badly need rain. We’ve no spare money to go away, so the sun is lovely and although I do usually do a lot more, one lazy summer won’t hurt. It’s gone a long way towards making up for being so broke and being so miserable in April. I’m really not looking forward to October one bit, although I usually love it.

I’m sorry for those who hate the heat. It has been a long one. But I fear light and warmth are going to be in short supply soon.
