Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 15:09

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

I don’t understand when some people say ‘we need to enjoy it because we never get a proper summer in the UK’.

Erm, yes we do! You have a very short memory.

We’ve had scorching summers for years now, yes sometimes it’s not very consistent, but the temperatures are going up and up!

Never ending rain? Where are you? 😕

I think what I notice more is the recent spate mild and wet winters.

No, it is not comparable, because we have had 45 years since and climate change has made the overall picture very different.

We have to stop referring back to '76 - this is a right-wing/climate change denier strategy to make it seem that things are not that bad.

Things are very worrying.

I'm neither right wing nor a climate change denier. However I did see that there was a documentary about the summer of '76 on recently, which I didn't see, and I was asking for that reason. I wasn't even born in 1976.

I personally find the posters who are enjoying this heat and lack of rain - specifically the ones who don’t mention any concerns about climate change in their posts - incredibly naive, selfish and short sighted.

Well, I personally find that quite offensive. You can be aware of climate change and still enjoy the sunshine. Gnashing your teeth and going, "oh, it's so unbearable" doesn't lessen the impact of climate change. Also, most of the people complaining haven't mentioned climate change either, they're just saying they're too hot. I honestly thought we'd done away with this sanctimonious attitude after Covid and lockdowns, where everyone was apparently "so fucking selfish".

The south east and east of England has had

Not so much other areas

I'm not denying climate change at all, but it's the winters it's having most of an effect on so far.

Im loving the heat. I enjoy sitting in my garden or on the beach. I can put my washimg on the line and know within an hour it will he dry. You can plan days out and know the weather usnt goimg to let you down. The only down side of it that I see, is working on a very hot hospital ward where you dont have air con and sleeping. I am not a fan of the cold and rain

Heavy downpour in London last night, was lovely, I sat at my open window and got wet😁Raining again now, but just checked weather and it's supposed to get hot again by the end of next week (28°)

Nooooooooooo

". I honestly thought we'd done away with this sanctimonious attitude after Covid and lockdowns, where everyone was apparently "so fucking selfish"."

Some hope @Jourdain11.

I don't see how saying "the weather is sunny and I'm enjoying it" is selfish. That's a ridiculous non sequitur

Suetwo · 16/08/2022 16:59

God, it's STILL humid here in Essex. I really hoped today was the end of the heat. Looks pretty muggy again tonight.

lollipoprainbow · 16/08/2022 17:59

Had a massive downpour earlier and I was so happy, then it was cooler so went out with dd for some shopping, the wretched sun decided to make an appearance again and it was stifling hot again. Stupidly I didn't take my sunglasses so I now have a bloody headache argh !!!!

The Swelling is probably fluid retention

JosieJasper · 16/08/2022 18:34

I’m South East too but I’m gutted as I’ve just started my annual leave so have two weeks to spend with my kids whilst they’re off school and the weather changes. Typical. I want the sunshine and heat back not storms and showers 😟It makes planning stuff to do so much more difficult!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/08/2022 19:04

@JosieJasper

Our local news says it’s heating up again next week😩

MarsupiIami · 16/08/2022 19:32

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow nooooooooo!

It’s finally chucked it down here but it doesn’t feel any cooler.

Yay. The cooler temperature is already making me sad.

tobee · 16/08/2022 20:20

The longed for rain does seem to have made it sweaty

Ladyof2022 · 16/08/2022 20:25

I have to be in the path of a fan literally 24 hours a day or else I feel like I cannot breathe properly.

(Home) office - overhead fan going the whole time I am in here
Bedroom - fan on all night, on lowest setting, pointed at me
Living room - portable fan blowing at me as I watch TV
Kitchen - portable fan blowing at me as I prepare food and wash up

Despite this, I feel dopey and sleepy all the time and keep falling asleep.

I am worried sick about what the electricity bill is going to be like!!!!

Suetwo · 16/08/2022 20:41

I thought it was all over, but the news says it could be in the 30s again by the end of the month. I don't believe it. These heatwaves have been torture. Every time I think it's over, they build all over again. God, I am yearning for the cold. It's STILL humid here in Essex, so yet ANOTHER horrible sticky night throwing the duvet off me. I've had enough of this shit.

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2022 20:51

Please no more heatwaves !..
please be wrong weather people

Why on earth are you using a duvet when it’s so hot? You need just a sheet and a summer duvet at the end of your bed if it cools down in the night.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/08/2022 20:58

I don’t even have a sheet. Just lie there like a melting corpse.

Yeah, in spite of being (apparently) little affected by the heat in comparison to others who are suffering, I don't think I've used a duvet since those few cool weeks in June! I'm obviously not as heatproof as I think 😃

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2022 21:24

I took the duvet out if it's cover back in june !
It won't go back in again till September / October. It's only a light summer one but still too hot with one. The cover is fine on its own
