Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

@tobee Essex. Rain has stopped now!

Thanks!

Dd just reported rain here. SW London.

It's our homes in extended hot weather the fabric of the building just gets hotter and hotter. There's no relief.

We live right on the coast normally prevailing westerlies. This summer it's been weak northerly winds around 5 knots . So between the two it's been pretty grim.

ALongHardWinter · 15/08/2022 20:03

Yes I'm sick to death of it. Thankfully its predicted to be much cooler here tomorrow, only 24 degrees as opposed to the 31 - 34 degrees of the last week. I can't wait!

Banana2079 · 15/08/2022 20:06

Same here I am absolutely dripping with sweat cooking dinner tonight kids won’t eat salads, My feet are swollen and I just want to give up ha ha

Banana2079 · 15/08/2022 20:06

This has just solidified our plans to love to the north of scotland

I'm sure you're not alone. I have been looking at house prices in Northumberland and the north east of Scotland today. I'm in Essex and can't go through this again. I'm sure there is something wrong with me - some kind of hyper sensitivity to the heat. The last five or six weeks have been unbelievable. And things are only going to get worse.

ALongHardWinter · 15/08/2022 20:10

It's just started raining here (SW London).

eatyourcrustspls · 15/08/2022 20:11

I hate the summer as it is. I find the heat so overwhelming. I actually had a little cry yesterday morning as I felt terrible and kept having vaso-vagals. I naturally have low BP but the heat was making it lower. Having two kids to run around after as well. It's just awful. Today has been much better but it's going to be warm overnight again 😫

Banana2079 · 15/08/2022 20:25

Suetwo · 15/08/2022 19:48

Oh god yes. I love you people. I have kept quiet because I didn't want to be called a moaner, but I HATE it. These past few weeks have been torture. I am in Essex, in one of the hottest parts of the island, and every time I think the heat has gone it comes roaring back.

At the weekend I even had heat exhaustion. On Saturday night I (stupidly) went for a jog. Didn't feel right after that. Then it was a horrific, sweaty night, like trying to sleep in a goddam sticky jungle. On the Sunday I had to take my niece to the park. After an hour in the sun, I vomited and nearly passed out. I then collapsed on the sofa about one in the afternoon and could barely move until midnight. I still feel sick and horrible and have barely eaten all day. And it's STILL humid. I really thought Monday would be the end, but it's going to be in the 20s here tonight. I would pay £50 for five hours of heavy rain and then a week of crunchy frost and bright sunshine.

Drink plenty water and keep ears moist with flannel it’s a good trick
keep cool and relax , don’t turn oven on Makes the house too hot

baroqueandblue · 15/08/2022 20:26

I lost that hypothetical house I gambled - just had 10 minutes of a light shower here in SE London and it was bliss. The smell! 😃 Sadly it has stopped already but hopefully it's a sign of more to come tomorrow 🙏

I'm also seriously thinking of moving out of London next year. If this is the future I won't survive it by staying put, sadly. Like other posters, I'm not biologically or constitutionally made for these temperatures, which is why I've never been on a beach holiday here or anywhere else in my adult life! I love the sea, but not baking sun.

Thunder and heavy rain just started, East London, temp has plummeted

I reckon your clouds passed over me earlier and treated us to about a five minute sprinkle Grin

I want the next lot!

90redbaloons · 15/08/2022 20:41

Nope I feel exactly the same way. Sunshine is one thing but this oppressive heat has been too much. I have an eye condition that makes being in direct sunlight very difficult so have been stuck indoors for weeks now, yet If I tell most people I dislike hot weather and how it affects me, I'm pretty much verbally attacked almost like I'm interfering with someone else's enjoyment of hot weather which isnt the case at all

DysonSphere · 15/08/2022 20:56

PeloAddict · 15/08/2022 11:52

@DysonSphere yeah montelukast it is, I have tried that before
There's a few options but I had used them all up so went onto Xolair (£££ to the NHS) and it's been a miracle

Just returning to the thread, thanks again@PeloAddict Will note expensive drug might not easily be prescribed. That's if things go that far...hopefully not, maybe the other medicine will work. Please god. Cause it's horrible 🤞🏾

Had a light shower, but it's over before it began and probably just cleared away clouds for a bright, hot, sunny day tomorrow...😩

CPL593H · 15/08/2022 21:01

I've just been looking at every weather forecast I can find and was particularly incensed by the words "tonight will turn drier".

If it were any drier in East Anglia we would be twinned with the Sahara. We've had no more rain than a tortoise's tinkle for weeks and that was ages ago.(Works on plot for dystopian film where it never actually rains again, possibly starring Tom Cruise. Feel too hot, cross and tired so give up)

Helphusbandsadick · 15/08/2022 21:07

Christ I need to move further down south! I’m in north west and we have had about 10 days of (summer) we had a nice may and a hot august but literally that is it! Weather was miserably since the school holidays started apart from the 2 days right at the start and the last week was hot but apart from that it’s been grey cloudy/drizzle type days where it’s still fairly warm ish but to hot to wear a rain coat! When we have planned days we literally have had to take every type of extra clothing!! Shorts/rain coat/umbrella for rain or cap for sun!!!! It’s been crazy. I must admit though I always look forward to Autumn and start of winter

TwinklingFairyLightz · 15/08/2022 21:08

No further storms yet up here in the lakes. Warm but cloudy with a few showers and it's now down to a more sleep friendly 17 degrees.

I did see a long term forecast a while ago, saying we are expecting a warmer than usual September. Hopefully will be a nice 25 degrees, not the 35 or so we've had this month. I think sunny and about 25 is my happy weather 😀

Oh dear god no, I hope not.

baroqueandblue · 15/08/2022 21:21

So far the weather app is saying that until the end of next week it'll be 26 tops. Let's hope it stays that way! Encouragingly, night time temperatures look set to be much lower than they have been for a while from tomorrow 🤞

Summerlovin24 · 15/08/2022 21:24

I'm not a sun worshipper but after about a week I get used to it and enjoy seeing the sun everyday. Freeze water overnight so you have cold water all day.
Just as I get acclimatised the weather breaks 😐

Me.

Hydrangeatea · 15/08/2022 21:33

I live in the south east and haven't experienced 6 weeks of intense heat, how very odd. There was a very hot 3 days middle of July where it got to 36/37 and then it cooled down quite a bit and stayed reasonable at about 24/25 (whis is not intense heat at all). It got hot again last week with 5 days at 33-34 but is cooling back down to 23/24 from tomorrow. Yes there has been no rain and yes those 8 days out of the last 6 weeks have been horrible but there's certainly not been intense heat here in Surrey.

Hydrangeatea · 15/08/2022 21:33

which

Mxr · 15/08/2022 21:36

The UK has such poor housing.
The worst insulation; in Europe.
I'm not advocating those who glued themselves to roads, but that was their point.

Insulation keeps in heat when it's cold, bug also KEEPS HEAT OUT when it's hot !

If they're well insulated, little heat or cooling is needed. Costs are low, minimal wastage.

29 million homes the figure cited...as not up to standard. Think about that figure...the pop is around 65-70 million !!;

THEY BUILD SHIT HERE.
CAUSES IMMENSE HUGE PROBLEMS.

As for those who " love this weather" , they usually have big houses, sheltered areas, big gardens, fans, space, cars to go wherever whenever...& breaks in the sun, in winter.. plus clothing & paraphernalia for all conditions.
They like show off their summer tans & outfits.
Most are just bragging.
