Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

sickofthisshite000 · 14/08/2022 15:09

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

I'm in Bristol - it's clouding over and there's a breeeeeze FINALLY. Woo!

Jellicoe · 14/08/2022 19:59

I suffer from osteoarthritis and the heat as made life miserable. The heat causes inflammation of my joints and have been having temperatures above 39deg that I can't shake

I have fibromyalgia and it's been hell.

LonelyInAutumn · 14/08/2022 20:01

Where I live, it was forecast thunderstoms and lightning today. Instead it's been 33 degrees all day and not a cloud in the sky.

I like autumn when it's still a little warm. Warm enough to not need a jacket, cool enough to sleep through the night

TwinklingFairyLightz · 14/08/2022 20:05

Rain is forecast to start mid afternoon tomorrow, here in the lakes. With storms in the evening.

Nope. Don't need to, plus I'm agoraphobic so going out is a nightmare.

@Caramelsmadfuzzytail

how do you go on for work and stuff?

LadyWhistledownsPen · 14/08/2022 20:06

I hate it too. I can't bear to be sweaty and sticky. It makes me tired and grumpy. Indoors most of the day as it's too hot to let the kids out for long. I'm currently sweltering in my DDs room till she goes sleep daydreaming of the winter. I can't wait for frosty mornings, tights and cozy jumpers.

Yes a million times. I had the week off work and I’m furious as I’ve wasted it because I’ve done literally nothing but sit in front of fans and feel miserable. I’m moving up north, I’ve had enough!

It's boiling up here too

I remember moaning in June 2016 because it was so cold I was wearing a winter coat.

Jellicoe · 14/08/2022 20:16

@Zingy123 that made me chuckle. Royal post will prob sack you for violating health and safety for wet uniform...thank you by the way for your work. I love my posties 🥰

37 weeks pregnant and am just dying a death. It is awful. I have never been so incredibly hot in all my life. My internal temperature is the same as the outside and all I do is sweat and drink water. Seriously hating this so much.

That does sound very uncomfortable. Have you tried freezing a hot water bottle full of water, and keeping a bucket of cold water for your feet nearby to dip into.

One of the spritzers I linked above was developed especially for pregnant women.

rainbowmilk · 14/08/2022 20:17

Thanks all for the corrections about up north and Scotland, have now decided on arctic circle. Surely it can’t be this hot there?!

IrisVersicolor · 14/08/2022 20:17

This one: Keep Your Cool

Aurea · 14/08/2022 20:18

I’m in the north east of Scotland. Top temperature over the past few days has been 28oc which is just about bearable. The climate here is dryer than the west coast so that’s pretty perfect for me.

CruCru · 14/08/2022 20:22

I really want rain. Partly for my garden but also because of all the wildfires that have been going near here. The ground needs a drenching.

awwbiscuits · 14/08/2022 20:23

@IrisVersicolor I've sat with my feet in dd's paddling pool all day drinking pints of iced water! Still sweating through my clothes 😩 hopefully not long now. Will def look at the cooling spray!

etulosba · 14/08/2022 20:27

If the room is above 35c a fan will not cool you down as heat is getting near body temperature.

That isn’t how they work.

The draft they create speeds up the evaporation of sweat from your skin. That is what cools you down.

WildFlowerBees · 14/08/2022 20:29

Finally is cooling down here, no breeze but definitely cooler. Thank goodness!

tobee · 14/08/2022 20:34

Yeah cooling down here too. Eating outside at a pub.

Well people love it or hate it or in between. There's not much we can do though ti change it. I think we aren't used to it at all because it is, currently, quite unusual.

We're not in the Mediterranean where you get guaranteed sunshine. Or Chicago where, I think, it's either sweltering and humid. Or freezing and deep snow.

Grumpybutfunny · 14/08/2022 20:34

We absolutely love the heat having just returned from the Scottish Borders to near Newcastle I can confirm it's still warm up north.

Would be better if we got this every year as we would be more prepared. We have the gardeners in tomorrow so hoping it doesn't rain for them

Shergill15 · 14/08/2022 20:38

Sick of it here! I find up to about 25 pleasant, anything above that no thanks! I hate feeling sweaty/sticky and getting no sleep is making me grouchier. The house is in dire need of cleaning/tidying but I can't face it in this heat.

That isn’t how they work.

The draft they create speeds up the evaporation of sweat from your skin. That is what cools you down.

Fans cool you down by two processes, one speeding up evaporation of sweat as you say and the other by convection. The fan moves away the hot air surrounding your skin and replacing it with relatively drier cooler air if room below 35c.

This article by New York department of health also explains if the weather is v hot and humid and the room is above 35c sweat sweat evaporates off the skin slower than normal and fans make it even more difficult for the body to lose heat by sweating.

London here. When’s the thunderstorms coming? Literally cannot take any more!

WildFlowerBees · 14/08/2022 20:48

@RosaMoline tomorrow allegedly but not everyone will get rain. 🤷🏻‍♀️
