Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

@sickofthisshite000 Could not agree more. Live same area as you and it not just been a few days. As you say, it has been weeks. I have been sick several times and even walking to the shops has been unbearable. Today it's still 31C at this time. I am hoping for some relief from tomorrow but wouldn't be surprised if we had yet another heatwave at the end of August. I have hated this summer, been so uncomfortable

wink1970 · 14/08/2022 18:57

Loving it! Spent June in Spain (which was cooler than home) and since we got back we vhave spent every evening & weekend in the garden - we have 2 sun beds in semi shade, enjoying just chatting rather than being inside.

top tip - sleep on a damp towel, it really works.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 14/08/2022 18:57

My dd is in Inverness and just messaged me to say it's chucking it down and stormy
I'm in Manchester sat in my garden in my swimming costume trying to keep cool.

rainbowmilk · 14/08/2022 18:57

My worry is that we head into an Indian summer in September - I really will lose my mind if this continues. It’s not just a case if wearing cool clothes and having a fan for many people, ffs. I literally feel sick as a dog in this weather, incapable of sleeping or doing anything. It’s miserable.

IrisVersicolor · 14/08/2022 18:58

@Coolmedown I ask myself over & over again - why do people enjoy boiling hot weather

Well I can answer that - I love feeling warm to the core whatever time of day. I have a sense of well-being and a kind of joy.It actually makes me feel energised rather than sleepy. I don’t sweat that much, my thighs don’t chafe and I like wearing light clothes and open sandals. I actually sleep well in the heat - I love sleeping in the nude with just a sheet and my window open.

peaceandove · 14/08/2022 18:59

I simply hate it. My hair is frizzy and my fingers swollen. Sick to death of the flies and wasps. I have accumulated 7 new bites (to add to the dozen I got in the South of France recently). I'm not sleeping well.

I have spent the last 5 days sporting a grumpy frown. Wearing various t-shirts rung out in cold water, huddled over our one fan.

DH and teen DDs have been out in the garden all day, absolutely loving the sun. They've sunbathed. Mucked about with water pistols. Played boules.

Freaks.

We've had thunder and a little bit of rain (Edinburgh) but not the downpour I was hoping for

lovescats3 · 14/08/2022 19:01

Thanks tobee

The people in the south by the sea is there no seabreeze ? I have been dreaming of it

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 14/08/2022 19:05

I love summer, but not this, it's beyond unbearable. I love sunshine, blue skies, but 10 degrees cooler.

I was in Deal today, breeze until about 3pm. It was lovely.

gnilliwdog · 14/08/2022 19:09

@Savingpeoplehuntingthings @nonevernotever Hoping for rain! It's dry as a crisp in Devon. Not a raindrop in sight

wet a sarong and pop round you and stand or sit in front of a fan for a while

Such ingenious and practical advice for those of us who work in A+E Grin

😭😭

tobee · 14/08/2022 19:14

Actually it would be amazing if there was a really spectacular storm. Although I'm aware lots of small children are terrified and get woken up, so maybe not.

Think we might get one on Tuesday. Is there a storm watch thread going?

ivykaty44 · 14/08/2022 17:45

You do realise some of us work outdoors and can't swan around in a wet sarong.

I hadn't realised you weren't able to work out that wet other types of clothing for the same affect

You haven't got a clue. Just because you don't feel affected by the heat others do. I am a postie how do you suggest I keep my uniform wet for my 7 hour day?

rainbowmilk · 14/08/2022 15:19

By up north I mean Scotland…

It's been pretty warm up here too for the past few weeks. (Central scotland)

BreatheAndFocus · 14/08/2022 19:33

I hate it! This isn’t normal heat. It’s thick, suffocating extreme heat (33 here today with no breeze). I’ve travelled to many countries but this heavy heat is just crap. I’ve been nauseous, weak, dizzy, and have a medical condition that this ultra-heat makes much worse.

Also, I resent the fact it’s wasting my holiday. It’s too hot to do anything. I can’t wait for some rain and, mainly, cooler temperatures.

GoingOnce · 14/08/2022 19:44

I like it. I mean, I definitely have my moments of thinking “fucking heat” but in general it’s nice to see the sun every day and wear cool summery clothes. I have several tall fans so I find it ok getting cool.

I hate the long winters. I’m trying to preserve these feelings and memories to cash in when I’m shivering in January.

Cornettoninja · 14/08/2022 19:46

Tbf @ziggy at least the sweat pouring off you will give you a nice damp uniform to achieve that cooling effect hack.

never mind that it’s simple science that the closer to our core body temperature it is outside the harder it is to cool down.

I don't have good memories though. Mine are all of feeling ill, enervated and stressed because I can't get things done as I'm so drained and the anxiety about things not getting done is overwhelming. I've hated the last three summers and it's not a good feeling. Lockdown for the first two but I've been so unhappy this summer even when out at places I've wanted to be. I want blue skies, 74 degrees and breeze here and there. That's my sort of summer.

Sartre · 14/08/2022 19:53

It’s shit when it’s 30+ which is has been for the past 4/5 days here. I don’t mind early 20s, anything over that is suffocating. Still, it’s all over tomorrow and the rain will return so we’ll have something new to whinge about.

SlashBeef · 14/08/2022 19:54

I'm just a bit fed up of being sweaty. I've always been a sweaty human so weather like this turns me into a mess.

CPL593H · 14/08/2022 19:55

People got really, really hacked off with 1976 and the standpipes etc (especially the standpipes) I was less bothered then as a self absorbed teenager, but people did.

Anyone who just says they're enjoying it, great, we're all different and I am honestly glad you are. For the others coming on to say we're "moaners" another perspective. Try being heavily pregnant/unwell/menopausal/a carer for someone in very poor health/any combination of these. Most of us are not acclimatised to heat and don't have homes where keeping cool is easy. It is miserable.

awwbiscuits · 14/08/2022 19:55

37 weeks pregnant and am just dying a death. It is awful. I have never been so incredibly hot in all my life. My internal temperature is the same as the outside and all I do is sweat and drink water. Seriously hating this so much.
