Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

For those wishing to move north - Scotland is also hotter than satans bawsack!

Ha! Yes it is.

I hate the heat. I'm done with it, never thought I'd be considering Scotland too warm. I love cold, I love winter, I love Scotland's climate. I never moan about being cold but ffs this is relentless. And my skin... covered in prickly heat, and the sweat.... is unrelentless. I like this thread, I have been trying not to complain IRL. Thank you.

Irisversicolor what are these cooling balms please?

Yes sick of it, this isn't British summer weather.to top it off was meant to be near sea on holiday with husband and children but had to cancel because having urgent hospital tests so we are all stuck in the city

Actually I do agree that were not geared up for quite this humidity.

Very sorry to hear you're stuck in the city for those reasons.

Friars23 · 14/08/2022 18:34

That I would find hard. As said I am in the Midlands and we have only had intense heat for about 7 days in total this summer. Rest of time it’s been in low twenties mainly which is not bad. Warm but not too warm. My ideal would be 24-27c.

i do take on board though the higher temperatures in much of Europe and some parts of U.K. are worrying. France, Spain and Portugal have been having incredibly high. Portugal particularly.

Cornettoninja · 14/08/2022 18:34

it certainly isn’t. Otherwise we wouldn’t be talking about reservoirs reaching dangerous lows and losing crops.

No I love it. It’s made me so much happier to take my son out to the beach and park and not spend loads of money as we can just enjoy the sun. I have a lovely tan too! Just wear cool clothes, drink lots and use a fan. So many moaners!

Always amused by the autumn/winter lovers on Mumsnet. Talking of roaring fires, crisp days, snuggling under the blanket with kids drinking hot chocolate watching a film. There was on about 2 months when my kids were happy to sit for more than a nano second watching a film under a blanket. Weather is usually mild and rainy for autumn/winter. Spend most of the time driving about in the dark and wet from school, clubs try to get the kids to do homework when there's not been weather nice enough to let off steam for weeks. I must have done it all wrong.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but you've just made me miss winter so much! Getting in the house, wet shoes and jackets off, thick jammies and slipper socks on.... Drawing out the world with closed curtains....

TwinklingFairyLightz · 14/08/2022 18:36

I love it 🥰

I've been swimming, Paddleboarding and kayaking. On holiday in the lakes though. Wasn't too keen on it in Manchester. It's about 5/6 degrees cooler up here, with a bit of a breeze and plenty of lakes to cool down in.

makingmiracles · 14/08/2022 18:37

Yep, really fed up of it, all week have just stayed inside, as have the kids doing crafts etc, everyone’s been too hot to go outside, I’ve only been going out in the afternoon to my job where I work in 3deg, work has been bliss apart from Thursday when I was tasked with another job role and had to take tikka and rice out the ovens, I went home by 10.30pm as I was soaking wet through with sweat, Very grateful I generally work in the cold part.
this weekend has been unbearable, we have just led around in front of fans but it is 30 inside our flat and you can’t cool down. I feel I’ll with it, I’ve actually been sick today from the heat and just cannot function, literally praying for cooler weather/rain tomorrow.

Friars23 · 14/08/2022 18:37

To add I have always found many U.K. summers miserable, not enough sunshine or heat but I know these higher temps do not bode well.

lovescats3 · 14/08/2022 18:39

Crunchymum which swimming pools do you go to please ? I could send husband with kids while at hospital

Must admit I bet it’s lovely in the Lakes. It’s a pretty damp green place usually! although I love it. The watersports sound great!

Livelovebehappy · 14/08/2022 18:42

I’m soooo over this heat wave. I was out in the garden, chairs out, for the first couple of days. The novelty has now worn off and I am so pissed off when I wake up in the morning and the sky is again cloudless and I’m sweating like a pig two minutes after exiting the shower. Please God sent us rain tomorrow……

Coolmedown · 14/08/2022 18:42

Yes I agree this heat is totally unbearable., yesterday I felt as if I were going mad to screaming point with the unbearable heat . I have a fan in the bedroom that has a temperate reading , it’s been well over 30.c every night .
Can’t do anything out the garden or about the house , it’s all far too hot & exhausting, so , I just sit in front of the fan , bored to tears . I ask myself over & over again - why do people enjoy boiling hot weather , do they enjoy being sweaty , uncomfortable, can’t have decent nights sleep , go around in next to nothing but still perspire with their neck & foreheads dripping with sweat , armpits soaked, boobs & thighs rubbing together, chaffing and sore - the list goes on - surely in cooler months you can put extra jumper on to keep snuggled warm which is far more comfortable , if only to calm down your mental health !

Imissmoominmama · 14/08/2022 18:43

I love it. I’m dreading it being cold again.

SecretVictoria · 14/08/2022 18:45

I’m knackered and uncomfortable. But….I’d still take this over the 10 months of cool/cold/rain/wind I know will be arriving shortly.

Youaremysunshine14 · 14/08/2022 18:47

Haven't RTF but yes, I hate it too. I hate how oppressive and sweaty it is. I hate how is saps energy and I'm struggling to work and do chores. I hate that we've inflicted such damage on the planet that this is going to be the norm for summers to come and that by the time our kids are grown up it will be too unbearable without air con that few people will be able to afford. 😢

XingMing · 14/08/2022 18:47

Don't go to NYC for a holiday in August folks. It's even hotter and more humid.

birdfeeders · 14/08/2022 18:48

Jourdain11 · 14/08/2022 18:49

Drawing out the world with closed curtains sounds depressing to me! And yeah... no roaring fires permitted in London and generally no crunching snow underfoot etc either. I'm also doing winter wrong!

DysonSphere · 14/08/2022 18:51

Omg I cannot WAIT for it to be over!! I used to suffer from chronic urticaria and guess what with all the excess sweating and heat I've broken out again and have facial swelling too, feel inflamed and sore and the heavy heat is enough to make me cry.

I'm not looking forward to the energy bills and do hate the prolonged darkness. But it's too much. Why can't the weather ever just be balanced?!

saddowizca · 14/08/2022 18:51

It's been to hot for me the last few days. In really hot countries, they either have very effective AC, or they adjust their days around the coolest times. If I lived in my fantasy beach front cottage, I would be up early for a long dog walk in the morning, few hours work, leisurely lunch, bit more work, swim in the late afternoon, then big walk in the evenings. May also fit a nap in.
As I live in a small house in London, I just have the curtains drawn and keep opening different windows to try and get a breeze. I do manage the very early dog walks, but everything is very dry and hard, and our local stream is getting quite low now.

BaileySharp · 14/08/2022 18:51

Our house retains heat too well, I think we need shutters. We've had enough for sure. I like 20 degree weather but 30 degrees is too hot without air conditioning to hide in
