To think waking up having an orgasm is uncommon (women)

YABU - it happens to me
YANBU - never experienced it

Just that really. The male equivalent is so well known and talked about (I think it was even covered in either biology or PSHE at school!). I never realised the same could happen to women so was pleasantly surprised the first time it happened to me. It's not a common thing for me, averaging about once every 2 years since I was in my early 20s. Often when I have a full bladder, usually accompanied by an appropriate dream but not always.

I’m confused now. The OP talked about waking up having one but a lot of the replies talk about having one whilst asleep. Dreaming?

The orgasm starts in your sleep but wakes you up, so you wake up during the orgasm, or at its tail end

In my case, I would be dreaming about sex or something related to it, and then the orgasm would wake me up.

I’ve never found it that enjoyable to be honest; it’s a bit disorientating and sometimes the accompanying dream might be unsettling or something I actually don’t find sexy, and physically it’s not amazing. Occasionally I’ve had mild cramps afterwards too.

Sims400 · 13/08/2022 10:29

More so when I was pregnant but it’s happened a few times since

Dagnabit · 13/08/2022 10:32

I have them every so often, normally in line with my cycle so think they are hormone related. Also helps to have a full bladder and an erotic dream! Sometimes I wake before the climax so masturbate, otherwise I feel very frustrated and dissatisfied.

jammiewhammie65 · 13/08/2022 10:37

Happens in my sleep it's great

SunnyD44 · 13/08/2022 10:45

It happens to as many women as it does men but the results aren’t as obvious.

Both men and women don’t usually realise until the morning.

DillDanding · 13/08/2022 10:50

This happens to me sometimes.

when I was pregnant it happened a LOT.

LookingGlassMilk · 13/08/2022 10:51

It happens to me if I go longer than about 2 weeks without an orgasm.
I don't like it because firstly it has happened when I'm sharing a room with people, and I'm afraid they would notice, and secondly it is uncomfortable because I feel like I need physical pressure during the contractions. It is very uncomfortable without the pressure

inmyslippers · 13/08/2022 10:57

Yes happens around ovulation or if I've not orgasmed for a while. Never wake up though it's in my sleep

How can it happen for a woman and she not realise until the morning?

I wouldn't call it a dream orgasm. I definitely wake up and experience the majority of the orgasm.

I’ve had this occasionally. Don’t find it particularly unpleasant, just a nice way to wake up. You can actually buy a vibrator alarm clock if you want to wake up like that more often Grin

On the subject of hands free orgasms, my ex used to be able to make me climax just by kissing me. He could also do it by touching my breasts - and once even by just talking dirty to me. The power of pheromones I think!

Krakinou · 13/08/2022 11:16

A vibrator alarm clock! Not sure how effective that could be- would have a well worn snooze button for sure 😂

I’ve had these once or twice in the past - one while having an intensely sexy dream about my best friend - I see it as my only “lesbian” experience because I’ve never found a woman sexually attractive in waking life but it was brilliant (if extremely awkward afterwards).

Since being pregnant I’ve had quite a few, but always linked to a sex dream with my partner - really nice way to wake up. I think I’d have found it unpleasant if it had been about someone else.

UniBallEye · 13/08/2022 12:28

Yup! I get these randomly. I absolutely love them & find them far more powerful & intense than deliberate ones.
Mine are often accompanied by erotic dreams &sometimes it might be very innocuous contact - in the dream I'm connecting intensely with someone & if they touch my hand or leg I will think (in the dream) I'm going to come & them instantly it happens in a huge wave of pleasure & release. It pretty much always wakes me & I bask in the receding sensations.
I have also woken in the middle of one yo find myself thrusting/ rocking & I'm always amazed that I haven't woken dh!! I tell him about them though so wouldn't matter if I did wake him.

It really makes me think how powerful our minds are though & how amazing it would be if we could harness that more easily in consciousness...

crossstitchingnana · 13/08/2022 14:41

Loads. Very pleasant. Very rarely now I am menopausal.

YABU

vincettenoir · 13/08/2022 22:54

I once read that this happens to only 3% of women. But it’s happened to me and loads of my friends so I think that 3% statistic is a bit off.

I probably read it in Cosmo or on some unreliable website tbf.

Orgasms from just kissing and a bit of talking dirty?

I mean yeah, please share!

Who is this man?

It's also the only type that doesn't give me an almost guaranteed UTI.

Orgasms give you a UTI?
