To think waking up having an orgasm is uncommon (women)

YABU - it happens to me
YANBU - never experienced it

Just that really. The male equivalent is so well known and talked about (I think it was even covered in either biology or PSHE at school!). I never realised the same could happen to women so was pleasantly surprised the first time it happened to me. It's not a common thing for me, averaging about once every 2 years since I was in my early 20s. Often when I have a full bladder, usually accompanied by an appropriate dream but not always.

Yes this happens to me occasionally. It's more likely with a full bladder. I usually have a dream that goes along with it and will feel quite horny all day then so I guess it's a hormone thing?

AquaticSewingMachine · 13/08/2022 08:48

Has always happened to me once every few months or so, and not necessarily associated with a sexy dream. I like it fine. It's no better or worse than any other orgasm I have. I don't make any noise, the being asleep suppresses it.

MaryBlighthouse · 13/08/2022 08:52

Apparently clitoral atrophy is a thing, where the clitoris retreats into the hood if not being used or stimulated over a long period. Perhaps these night orgasms are nature’s way to try to fend this off!

There is so little knowledge and discussion about female sexual pleasure.

Jumpformylov3 · 13/08/2022 08:57

When pregnant, but I would wake half way through and it would stop. Very annoying

I’m wondering this!

I found the first one unpleasant as it felt like some sort of violation of my body, I don't know it that makes sense? I guess it was just so unexpected and I wasn't 100% sure what the heck was going on.

It's happened twice more and I loved them, so just the first one I didn't enjoy.

It's actually something I'd forgotten about as it hasn't happened for years but I do remember abstaining from IRL orgasms in an attempt to induce a sleeping one - didn't work, probably because I couldn't abstain long enough.

cookiecreammmpie · 13/08/2022 09:01

When I was a kid I used to get spontaneous orgasms. I've never spoke about this before, only to my dh because it's a bit of strange topic but at the time I never knew what it was, just that it was overwhelming. It wasn't in a sexual way at all. Then when I got older and started masturbating, I was like "oh that's what that was!" It's strange because it's a clitoral orgasm, but it goes to show that it's the brain that's causing it because there's no clitoral stimulation.

I'd love for my ex (from 20+ years ago) to read this thread after his mansplaining ass told me wet dreams weren't possible for women. Muppet.

5foot5 · 13/08/2022 09:11

Occasionally. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Only in later life though. At least I can't remember having them when I was younger and still sexually active.

I think it's lovely! Feel so relaxed afterwards.

They probably aren't possible if you're dreaming about him.

OldTinHat · 13/08/2022 09:12

YABU 😁

Woolyminded · 13/08/2022 09:12

Its happened to me. Quite often when I was a teenager.

ReneBumsWombats · 13/08/2022 09:14

Wateringthegarden · 13/08/2022 08:05

It's happened to me, every few months for the last few years.

I'm 44, never had one IRL so I assumed that's why it was happening in my sleep.

I generally dislike it. Makes me feel a bit sick.

Are you sure it's an orgasm you're experiencing, if you've never had a waking one?

Or maybe there's a connection between disliking the sensation to the point where it gives you nausea and the fact you've never had one while awake?

birdfeeders · 13/08/2022 09:16

Yes,sometimes. Always much better than in real life where I feel self conscious and don't really enjoy sex..my unconscious mind loves it! More, please ;)

PoleFairy · 13/08/2022 09:20

Happens to me at least once a month, normally if its been a week or so since sex.

InTheCup · 13/08/2022 10:00

Yep and I love it. Great way to start the day.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 13/08/2022 10:01

Had this happen a few times when heavily pregnant.

CakeCrumbs44 · 13/08/2022 10:01

Yes infrequently, usually when having a sexy dream. I usually wake up right at the tail end so don't really get to enjoy it for long!

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 13/08/2022 10:03

Yeah, maybe 4/5 times a year. It's always a nice surprise 🤣

MsPincher · 13/08/2022 10:05

I’ve had that. It’s a bit unsettling but not unpleasant. Not a fan of the daily mail.

DysonSphere · 13/08/2022 10:06

Yes this happens to me, especially if wearing tight undies to bed or something, period about to arrive or full bladder. But it's happened without those stimuli or stimulation of any discernible kind as well. It beats me, as I never orgasm from penetration and have issues where my orgasms are weak and unsatisfying... but in my dreams unintentionally I have pretty intense ones.

Go figure🤷🏿‍♀️

PurpleCatCuddles · 13/08/2022 10:12

I've had this a few times, they always make me feel uncomfortable and disoriented though.

ShahRukhKhan · 13/08/2022 10:13

Sleep orgasms are the best! So intense and different from clitoral ones, wish I could replicate them in real time.

Wateringthegarden · 13/08/2022 10:16

@ReneBumsWombats I suppose I don't know for sure but it certainly gets to a conclusion and I'm aware of it after I've woken up as it 'finishes'.

I haven't had one IRL because I am just not sex orientated, never have been and I find the idea of non penetrative sex a bit bleurgh.

Sparklingbrook · 13/08/2022 10:17

I’m confused now. The OP talked about waking up having one but a lot of the replies talk about having one whilst asleep. Dreaming?

SkirridHill · 13/08/2022 10:19

I've had very powerfully erotic dreams and woken up having an orgasm, or been on the cusp of one. I've always found them quite pleasurable.
