To think Apple is far superior to android?

In terms of iPhones are better than android? Is it true that androids are less secure and more likely to have viruses? And that they crash and become unresponsive a lot? I have an iPhone but DH has an android and I can’t even use it, I hate it

My Google Pixel does all of this.

I switch my Bluetooth headphones on and they connect straight away.

When I upgraded I just had to log into my Google account on my new phone and all my settings, apps, passwords etc were loaded onto my new device.

When I'm shopping online I just use my fingerprint to authorise my phone to enter my credit card details.

Your work phone is probably loaded with extra security and other features that will slow it down, plus it's probably not very high spec given it's a work phone.

Compare your iPhone to the latest Google Pixel and you might find it's a different story....

My Samsung does all that too.

I never understand why people say one is easier than the other to use. I've never had an iPhone, but have been able to find what I've needed when using someone else's.

GrowlingManchego · 08/08/2022 22:33

I had an android phone and couldn’t get on with it, so switched over to Apple. It was a few years ago. Have android phones suddenly improved? I picked Android because tech friends said they were generally better and more customisable, but I didn’t find it at all intuitive to use and was tired of having to look up how to do things with it. Whereas I have never had to look for YouTube videos on how to do something on an iPhone.

MarsupiIami · 08/08/2022 22:34

@TheSmallAssassin yes, I have loads of ones I don't need now too 😂. I use it a lot for slightly random things like recording my flexi and I use it to grab info from websites & send it as a notification. Plus making shortcuts for things like private dns and AOD. I have loads of nfc tags that trigger reminders too. I'm not sure I could cope without these things now!

@Wineislifealways on android all notifications sit in the notification shade with icons showing in the status bar until I dismiss them. I like the visual reminder. Plus AOD, but I think the next iPhone is coming with that.

Love my Samsung Android phone. Have had various models over the years happy with them all. Very reliable, plenty of storage and great camera.

Don't like iphone as not used to it.

What brand is your husbands phone? Suspect there are other androids that are not as good as iphone, but also plenty that are.

amicissimma · 08/08/2022 22:35

For me the advantage of android is the range of phones and manufacturers that it runs on. So I can pick the phone with the features I need in specific circumstances and run the system that I use on a different phone that fills other needs.

To run apple I need an iphone and I find that while they do everything OK, they aren't very good for specific specs.

SwanBuster · 08/08/2022 22:26

You literally wrote ‘android prices are too good to be possible without them ignoring auditing’. Don’t backtrack because you don’t know what you’re talking about.

So what you wrote is utter bullshit, because you are putting every manufacturer who uses android (which is as an operating system) into one basket. every one. Google themselves make phones now. Samsung do. At the top end, the prices exceed Apple’s pricing.

I agree but harsh.

I think I know where @Discovereads is coming from. Not that I agree but (insert manufacturer + Android OS) and generally costs are much cheaper than Apple.

Apple are quite unique that they do both. I guess now Google are making phones, you could just about compare Google vs Apple but can't remember who developed Android from Linux in the first place.

Crustyjuggler92 · 08/08/2022 22:39

It depends what you want to do. iPhones are easy to use and connect with other Apple products. With Android you have much more choice and generally you can get a much higher spec phone for less money and/or you can buy a phone according to what you want (e.g. I care about battery life more than camera quality) in a way you can't with iPhone because there are so many fewer handsets. Some people find this choice/customisation options a bit much and prefer the iPhone for its simplicity.

It's weird to compare one iPhone with one android phone though. There are so many from so many manufacturers. My favourite is Google and I don't find Google phones any harder to use than iPhones. I've had iPhones, cheap Chinese branded androids, a Samsung, a £25 Alcatel smartphone and a Google phone. Google wins for me but the £25 Alcatel was good for texts and calls!

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 08/08/2022 22:41

waves @ apple marketing....

(android all the way. Been on Samsungs for the last ten plus years)

BlackForestCake · 08/08/2022 22:44

I've used Apple stuff for decades and iOS is nice, but my Android phone does everything I need it to do and I don’t see any reason to pay a premium for an iPhone.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system) for the history. It wasn’t originally Google’s but they became the largest sponsor/contributor.

I wouldn’t have put it quite so bluntly had the poster not continued to argue and attempt to backtrack saying others were ‘extrapolating’. It is an OS, i.e software. The ethics of the manufacturing process are entirely hardware centric. It may well be the case that some manufacturers are not doing their due diligence - not a good thing obviously. But what that poster was effectively implying was that open source operating systems are in some way ‘unethical’ because any Tom, dick or Harry can produce the hardware for them.

boatahoy · 08/08/2022 22:49

Yanbu. I have an apple for personal use and android for my work and I much prefer Apple

OfficiallyBroken · 08/08/2022 22:49

I'm forced to use an Apple phone for work. I fucking hate it! Clunky interface, stroppy and slow responses. Clunky piece of shit.

By comparison my now ancient in phone years Galaxy S8 is bliss to use. Intuitive and simple interface, gorgeous design, brilliant camera. Don't need anything else frankly. When it inevitably needs replacing I won't consider anything Apple, even if someone offered me one for free I'd flog it and use the money to buy preferably a Samsung but would settle for one of the other market leaders too.

As an aside I'm also forced to use a MacBook for work. Fucking hate that too.

cloudygreyskies · 08/08/2022 22:53

Android isn’t locked down like ios is. Got an android phone years ago, did have a few iphones before. Not looked back since. Prefer apple tablets though.

RampantIvy · 08/08/2022 22:56

I have just checked the latest Which? report on mobile phones.

  1. iPhone 13 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.
  2. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G
  3. Oppo Find X5 Pro
  4. Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G
There are two iPhones, One Oppo and seven Samsung phones in their top 10 Best Buys.

We are an Android household. Android is more customisable and flexible than Apple, and you can expand your storage in an Android phone by inserting a memory card into your phone. I don't believe iPhones have this option.

What phone does your DH have @Wineislifealways?

maddy68 · 08/08/2022 22:56

Yabu. Android is better. Better cameras more functionality , adaptable and customisable. I was such an apple girl until I swapped. (reluctantly). I doubt I will ever go back

whynotwhatknot · 08/08/2022 22:58

ive had both nothing but problems with my iphone think it was 3 at the time-went to android havent had a problem since

apple will make yu belive they are better theyre not

AlviarinAesSedai · 08/08/2022 22:59

The battery line is dire. On Apple phone. Always have to carry battery bank.

MissMaple82 · 08/08/2022 23:05

I cant use iPhone, I think they are absolute shite. Your just paying for the brand, they technology isn't that great

ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2022 23:08

I've never used an android because DH listens to loads of podcasts on computer security and won't have one - as the apple does everything I want that's fine by me.

willstarttomorrow · 08/08/2022 23:10

@OfficiallyBroken I have an old S8, no sim in it now, but still used connected to wifi. So if phone is charging I still use it to access kindle or connect it to Alexa as have not bothered to sort out my newer phones to do the same. It remains a really good phone despite now being about 5 years old. In comparison DC's iPhones seem to become redundant as soon as she upgrades 🤔

UndertheCedartree · 08/08/2022 23:14

I've never got on with Apple - I find Android much more intuitive. I've never had problems with my Android phone crashing or viruses either, so personally I don't see Apple as superior atall. They're just different. I think Apple likes to make out it is superior but I can't see how.

Neverendingdust · 08/08/2022 23:15

There is absolutely no comparison- Apple is far superior. End of.

Apple costs an awful lot more, that’s the kicker for most folk. It’s a big club but if you ain’t in it…well Android will have to do 😬

zoeFromCity · 08/08/2022 23:17

YABU. Android is just broader scale, from cheap low end to totally comparable pieces.

I hate how Apple tries to consume you totally, it feels very creepy. Like when someone tries to limit who are you friends with.

Funny that your DH complains about lack of space, when it is Apple's approach where the memory is final and limited, while many Android phones has storage extensible by SD cards.

FixTheBone · 08/08/2022 23:18

Anyone who gets anything other than a Pixel, if they go down the android route would be well advised to invest in Nova Launcher which allows yin to completely customise the user interface for their phone (unless you're a massive fan of a particular UI)

You can do anything from stripping it back to resemble stock android to mimicking other phone OS - including iOS.

Branleuse · 08/08/2022 23:19

Ive never got on with iphones, ipads, imacs, any of the apple products. They look fancy but im android till i die
