To think Apple is far superior to android?

In terms of iPhones are better than android? Is it true that androids are less secure and more likely to have viruses? And that they crash and become unresponsive a lot? I have an iPhone but DH has an android and I can’t even use it, I hate it

My colleague is visually impaired and I am really impressed that apple products have accessibility software built in, magnification and voice over technology, makes a massive difference to her and her work. Which is excellent in my mind xx

I'd never have another Apple product. With the exception of a second gen ipod nano which is STILL going, every Apple device I've had has been nothing but trouble. The apps are shit, it crashes, it has a fit if you try to scroll too quickly, the fingerprint scanner is an arse, the screen cracks from a stiff breeze. I hated it. Sent it back and got another android which I will now stick to.

Apart from that one brief period of madness where I thought I'd try an IPhone, I've always had Android but stuck exclusively to the Samsung Galaxy S series and never had any of the problems you describe. Definitely not short of storage. I have 4 pages of apps and the last 3 phones worth of pictures (smartswitch is worth its metaphorical weight in gold) on this one and still got loads of space.

It's been dropped down the stairs countless times where I balance it on the banister while I go to the loo and invariably someone texts me, it vibrates and falls and I NEVER learn, survived an unfortunate incident with a sprinkler and is still fine at 3 years old. Battery is starting to get a bit crap but no different from any other phone it's age.

No different to android then? Struggling to see your point?

Mumofsend · 10/08/2022 06:18

I hated iPhone. I much prefer android and never have any issues.

Sunnyqueen · 10/08/2022 06:27

Yabu. A later model of Huawei or Samsung is head and shoulders better than an iPhone. Obviously as pp have probably said android is an OS so if you have a crappy/old phone with android that may not run as well. But overall after switching between both for years I'd now never have another iPhone.

YoureEntirelyBonkers · 10/08/2022 06:33

The thing I've hated about apple is how easily they smash. I actually burst out laughing when I saw their new advert recently where a phone falls to the floor and they say 'phew it's an iPhone'. If it's an iPhone it would be smashed to pieces.

UseOfWeapons · 10/08/2022 07:06

Android phone, but have iPad and a Mac I love the slick software of Apple, but Android meshes with how I think, so feels more intuitive. Neither of my devices crash or freeze, and my phone has huge storage. The only thing I don’t like about Android is the endless updates, but I’ll take that. Overall, either works for me, but I’d prefer to keep my Android phone.

Sartre · 10/08/2022 07:32

I’ve always used apple and we all have mostly apple products in the house so I’m a big fan. It’s mostly a software thing for me, I can’t use android software because it’s just not what I’m used to. The only thing about Apple is the battery life, it’s still not amazing even on my new apple watch.

Ha, we all said the exact same thing! There’s no way anyone should have an iPhone without a screen protector and case, just madness if you do.

I once read on here something along the lines of “ you don’t own Apple products, they own you” which I thought was funny and apt.

an android laptop would need the software adding and it would cost her a fortune £500 for speech software, her MacBook Pro already has it built in

Yeah, it can. Because it’s perfectly possible to hackintosh it to run all the way up to big sur using opencore.

apples hardware in the entire intel era was nothing more than generic kit with a few artificial locks. The processor, gpu, ssds, memory etc we’re all standard.

See this is why I have an iPhone 😂 I can turn it on and tap on stuff. My Samsung phone made me cry

Tax dodging is legal. Apples not failed to pay any tax legally due. And why should they do otherwise? Every other company & person only pays the taxes they are legally liable to pay. No one voluntarily gives up a tax dodge that applies to them. For example, I’m “dodging” income tax on my PIP income because there’s no legal requirement to pay income tax on PIP disability benefits. Parents are “dodging” tax on childcare because the U.K. government has legally allowed it. Using legal dodges to avoid paying tax is not unethical.

On the contrary, the European Commission ordered Apple to pay €13 billion in dodged tax in the Republic of Ireland.

And the EU competition enforcers have said the General Court made an error when it judged Apple did not have to pay this money.

Thus, the case is currently under appeal. Believe this properly begins in three weeks.

None of this is comparable to PIP benefit awards as these are beyond all doubt exempt.

Apple's behaviour is pn another scale altogether.

Hesma · 10/08/2022 10:58

Both have pros and cons, I don’t think one is superior to the other

My android laptop has accessibility already built in. No need to add anything in and it isn't exactly a top of the range laptop either.

CheGuevaraandDebussy · 10/08/2022 12:03

If you like modern tech, get android. If you like good design with the tech a couple of years behind, go Apple.

I prefer Apple.
Much better security and privacy
Awesome customer support
Better games on the App store
Apple Maps far superior to Google maps
Better supply chain auditing against suppliers using slave or child labour (android prices are too good to be possible without turning a blind eye to both of those)
More durable/robust hardware
Recycling/buy back program when you upgrade
Features like Airdrop

Apple Maps is in no way superior to Google Maps.

I have both apple and Android phones, and apple maps was an absolute pile of rubbish. They've improved it, but it's nowhere near as good as Google Maps. There are pages and pages written by tech journalists about why Apple Maps was one of the biggest fails Apple had in recent years.

Also you have airdrop on Apple phones, but you can't share files with non Apple devices over Bluetooth. So while Airdrop is quicker, it's Apple only.

Right. So how does it work with your PC and syncing? You’d have to sign in on that, wouldn’t you?

Nope, I just save everything on my Google account on my phone and then I can access it all on my computer via the same Google account.

If I want to actually access my phone directories from my laptop then I had to do the initial link up, which again took seconds, but then after that it just automatically connects whenever they're in range ... but I never actually use this function as I can access everything via my Google account 🤷‍♀️

Sonnex · 10/08/2022 17:06

What's an Android laptop is that a Chromebook?

I have a MacBook Pro which I hate and rarely use. I love any windows laptop as I can get them to do what I want.

Friends who have had Samsungs ad hated them and moved to iPhone freely admit (and showed me when I tried to help them) that they didn't really know how to use them to best effect and were unaware of all the customisations you can do, so Apple is definitely easier to pick up and just use if you're not techie.

You can airdrop between android phones too (high end ones anyway).

Weird, because my cheap Chromebook has it, and even if it didn't, there are multiple free apps to use.

I've got a mid range Android and it has their version of airdrop.

Maybe he needs to look again, The screenshot is of the accessibility features built into Android, the screenshot is of the Visual impairment features.

But a MacBook pro is a laptop not a phone or a tablet and Android isn't a laptop OS. Having said that, my Surface Pro (Windows10) has those features built-in as does my Linux Mint laptop.

MarsupiIami · 11/08/2022 10:17

I really appreciate access to work but I do find that they tend to recommend more expensive options sometimes, which would explain the macbook.

I thought of this thread this morning when the Apple security breach made the headlines.
