To be mad at DH over his stupid fucking car

Shutuppppp · 08/08/2022 06:50

Years ago DH bought a ridiculously expensive (and loud) car with a huge roaring engine. The sound this stupid thing makes when he starts it up is embarrassing.

I am absolutely ready to take a baseball bat to it. We have a young child (13 months) and I do 99% of the overnights as DH works a lot.

He sleeps better than he used to as a newborn obviously but he's been ill the past couple of weeks and has been up and down, often waking at about 3 and then going back to sleep, or trying at least.

But then 6:30am comes and this stupid fucking beast on our driveway starts up and wakes him up and I've just had enough of it. I'm so mad about this ridiculous fucking car.

DH doesn't know what I expect him to do and I don't really know either, all I know is it pisses me off and I'm mad at him about it. Get the fucking bus or something, I don't care just don't wake DC (and me after being up and down all night) with your stupid fucking toy.

Honestly I often wish I'd wake up in the morning to someone having stolen it in the night.

I think I'd turn this back on him. He doesn't know what you expect him to do? Alright, what does HE expect YOU to do about your DS being woken like that everyday? If he isn't going to try to come up with a solution for the problem, then he should be the one dealing with the consequences. He can get his arse back home and settle your son.

It is SO monumentally selfish of him, to knowingly cause a problem like that, distress your DS, then just fuck off to work and leave you to deal with it.

NoseyNellie · 08/08/2022 09:30

Wondering why OP hasn’t responded to the ‘move the baby to a different room’ post?

Should you have to? No. Would it solve the problem? Maybe.

At least try it for the sake of the baby and your sanity so you can get your energy back to properly fight your corner with DH

"That sounds really annoying if it’s waking you and baby up. Can he park it further down the street instead of on your drive?"

No please don't inflict this noise, on another neighbour. Would be incredibly selfish to do so.

R8’s aren’t loud, nor do their engines rev upon turning on the ignition.

It's interesting what you say because I know nothing about cars so I Googled R8 and apparently they have something called launch control that gives a noisier option and I wonder if her dh is using this everyday.

TimeAfterTime1 · 08/08/2022 09:34

Temporarily soundproof baby's room perhaps?

Launch control is for pulling away fast from a stand still

hewouldwouldnthe · 08/08/2022 09:38

If it's that noisy, it's illegal. Ask at a garage if they can fit some kind of muffler. Must also be annoying for the neighbours.

Buythebag · 08/08/2022 09:41

NoMichaelNo · 08/08/2022 09:22

This is my thought exactly.

The small penis dig, digs about toy cars, posters demanding that he sells it.

He's a father now, he's not allowed any fun and if he resists he's a selfish prick.

Ok, how about this.

OP decides she wants to re-take up playing the flute - it's something she loved as a teen so of an evening when baby is awake she practices the flute as it's the only time she gets and the baby loves it. Her practice piece is the particularly loud and funky "song for Jeffrey" by Jethro Tull as baby loves it and it relaxes him. It lasts about 5 minutes. DH is trying to sleep but hey ho, why should OP forfeit her autonomy just bc they have a baby now? It's who she was before she had dc's and it's who she still is, right? Who cares if it wakes dh up and he's then crying and in a rage coz he can't get back to sleep? After all, he's got his Audi and she's got her flute.

Oh, and the flute thankfully doesn't wake up her whole street either, just dh.

Maybe the car is parked with the rear facing the house and the noise reverberates.

Which is why I asked earlier what way its parked up.

Cars, particularly high end sports cars can be noisy without automatically being illegal.

Lockheart · 08/08/2022 09:44

There are several potential solutions to this, although granted they might not all be possible:

  • he changes the car
  • he parks elsewhere
  • he takes it to a garage and asks if there's another setting he could be using or if they can add a muffler
  • get a garage and he starts it inside that before leaving
  • he leaves at a later time
  • look into additional soundproofing for the baby's room
  • move the baby's room
  • look into white noise machines which should help reduce the disturbance
LynetteScavo · 08/08/2022 09:47

My neighbours has a car like this. All the neighbours hate him. He works odd hours and leaves and returns when the rest of us would like to be asleep. He cares not one fuck.

He also has another car (much cheaper and quieter) which he uses to take his children out in.

If someone wants to have a loud car they need to be mindful of who they are upsetting with it, but most )like the OPs DH) just won't give a fuck.

MercuryOnTheRise · 08/08/2022 09:47

OP I honestly think it's how he's driving it. DH has a sports car with a Ferrari derived V8 engine and it doesn't wake anyone up. It can snarl if driven aggressively but it doesn't have to.

Agrudge · 08/08/2022 09:48

get a garage and he starts it inside that before leaving

Anyone with a low level of understanding how noise works could this is just dumb

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/08/2022 09:48

Park it further away , sell it or buy a normal second car

I don't want to be woken up by the thing.

Tell him to fucking sell it (to someone who lives in the middle of the tundra or a desert).

AperolWhore · 08/08/2022 09:50

Get a white noise machine for the babies room, it’ll drown out any other noise and as you hear it on the monitor it’ll also drown out any noise for you.

Thats for pulling away very quickly from being stationary.

Yes, starting the car inside a small enclosed building won't be the smartest thing to do.

The noise will reverberate for entire streets.

Exactly

That's why I've always started my bike outside of the garage

Pigsears · 08/08/2022 09:54

I'd be more worried about the pollution that vehicle spews out.

Ask him if he thinks it fair his child breathes in those fumes. (Or any child)

Well the OP has a car, so she is happy for their child to breathe in fumes.

Eh?

Flowersintheattic57 · 08/08/2022 09:57

He needs to come up with a solution. He is waking the baby every single day which affects the rest of his and your day. Surely he can see that?
It’s disrespectful to make your child and partner’s day more tiring by your own selfish behaviour.

mothertrucking · 08/08/2022 09:58

I'm slightly envious about the R8 but knowing what the noise is like it would get on my nerves too.

Won't he even consider getting a runaround for work?

BlackbirdsSinging · 08/08/2022 09:59

I really feel for the neighbours.
