Random men carrying tampons is weird

Ikeasucks · 06/08/2022 19:15

Just seen a conversation on twitter with men talking about carrying tampons and pads to be helpful if they come across some woman who might need one. I thought it was weird - or am i the weird one?

How would you have felt if some guy had reached into his pocket and offered you a selection of tampons?

bellinisurge · 06/08/2022 20:43

I no longer menstruate but I'm still a woman ffs. If some bloke (however he identifies) came to offer my daughter a pad or a tampon that's a massive red flag - total creep.

lemmein · 06/08/2022 20:44

Not all women menstruate.

Strange point to make. Tampons are for menstruation...this man claims to carry tampons for menstrual emergencies of others...only women menstruate, ergo the use of the word women/woman would be correct! 🤷🏻‍♀️

miserablecat · 06/08/2022 20:44

If I had a period drama while I was out and had no San pro I would first use wodges of toilet roll, then look for a shop/dispenser that had them .....in a very very extreme case and if I was feeling confident, I might ask someone if they had San pro. The person I would consider asking would definitely be female, and between 15 and 45 ish. Asking a random man would literally not be an option. At all.

Not all women menstruate

But it is recognised as a normal event for most women between certain ages and something that mo man does. Women menstruate. Men don’t. The correct word is women.

The question was why say people who menstruate, he could have said women who menstruate, but just saying women is including alot of women who don't menstruate. I realise after a certain age we become invisible but we still exist and that is without even thinking of the younger women who have had a hysterectomy. So he might have said it because he wasn't thinking women who don't menstruate would need them.

It's odd because it's not the way tampon sharing works imo. Don't most of us women carry sanitary products for ourselves, specifically chosen for personal comfort, application, flow requirements etc? Most of us are happy to give a spare one away to someone caught out but we're not carrying a supply for anyone and everyone. It's quite a personal item.

If I had a period drama when out, can I choose Bridgeton? Grin

SlowingDownAndDown · 06/08/2022 20:45

It’s even weirder than the 1950s suggestion that a non-smoking gentleman should carry a lighter so that he could always light a lady’s cigarette if required.
I’m all for chivalry but I can’t see it ever working.

No women who are pregnant, women who are post menopause, women who have had a hysterectomy.

Yes but I notice you have used the word women there to clarify.
Women are only menstruates for a small time in every month. Plus the incidence you include. That doesn't seem to me like menstruaters is the best word as it doesn't apply to most women a lot of the time.
We're big girls. Call us women and we can work out if it applies or not. We even have our own big girl period pants now. No need for white knights.
Especially when most men can't even organise their own basic needs.
When teenage boys come to class with a pen ready to learn maybe then they'll be in the position to start mansplaining periods.

Wow this is so grossly offensive, what the actual fuck?

Oh damn, who did I offend today?

Oh my giddy aunt, the misogyny is strong in that one.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/08/2022 20:47

Why would all these girls miss school when on their periods cos of period poverty, if their male friends all.have tampons 🤔.

So kids turn up without the correct equipment some having not even had breakfast or a bath but they have shit they don't need like tampax in their bags?

What nonsense

And yes a grown man carrying around tampons when he's not with his wife or dd is just weird.in fact its weird anyway because why are they in his bag not his wife's or daughters? No good to them in there is it.

Besides men don't even carry bags most the time. Their wives are the ones cRryinv anything the kids might need aking side her own stuff.

I really hope that is sarcasm.
Boys and men are allowed to express feelings other than anger.
My toddler knows this.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 06/08/2022 20:50

If some bloke refers to me as a “person who menstruates” I will happily take his tampon and insert it for him.

SecretMoomin · 06/08/2022 20:50

Well I am very shocked that the tweeter has announced his pronouns.
Who’d have thunk.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2022 20:50

Dreamwhisper · 06/08/2022 20:33

It feels a bit white knighty, I did like though hearing a Youtuber saying he keeps tampons/pads at his house for when he has a lady over though.

Carrying them round is a bit weird. Women ask women for sanitary products. I'd never ask a bloke. How would it come up. Do they think as soon as we get our periods we look like the ending scene in Carrie?

Exactly, having them available in your home whether you use them or not due to biology or she or disposition is kind. Carrying around looking to give them to women in need is odd. I wouldn't expect menopausal women to carry them around either.

Merrygoroundtoo · 06/08/2022 20:50

That does seem strange - if he had a daughter, wife or even sister (with a history of menstrual issues?) it would make sense for him to have them, but how many women frequently ask random men for a spare tampon?

Jollygreen · 06/08/2022 20:51

I'm assuming the type of man who carries tampons is the same type of man who has an anime avatar, a pink bunny hairband, and was previously an incel.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2022 20:52

RedCardigan · 06/08/2022 20:40

He can’t say « people who menstruate » and then when talking about himself say men. It’s all or nothing dude, if I’m not a woman then you have to describe yourself as « person with a prostate », not men/man. HTH.

As a person who ejaculates, they carry San Pro around for people who menstuste?

TommySaid · 06/08/2022 20:52

Why tampons to “help in an emergency?”. Most women who use tampons need them 4 or 5 days a month. Maybe a few days more. Why not carry bottles of water? People, not just women, need water every day. You’re statistically more likely to come across someone who needs water than someone who needs a tampon.

😂😂

Never in my life have I ever come across someone who needed water and couldn’t just get some themselves.
You can go hours without water.

However I have been asked multiple times if I have any Sanpro by women.
If you’re flooding or irregular then you want a tampon pretty soon.

Yes and the question someone asked was This is what I came to say! Why couldn't he say women? One reason he might say people who menstruate is because he wasn't thinking of supplying sanitary products to people (including women) who don't need them.

You might be happy to work it out, personally as someone who has no womb, no ovaries, no cervix and doesn't menstruate I find it offensive when people use those things to define a woman, I don't menstruate and I am still a woman, I don't have a womb/cervix/ovaries and I am still a woman. A friend of mine had a breakdown after her hysterectomy because she said felt she was no longer a woman. Isn't it nasty to keep pushing that agenda?

There is a lot of ground between anger and girlish squealing. You make it sound like no other options are available.

It's normal in my kids' secondary school for the boys to carry period products around in case their female friends need them. I think it's rather lovely and took the OP's post in the same spirit, but perhaps I'm missing something

What? No?? Why can't girls just share with other females, who have a reason to carry them, rather than expect boys to carry them?!

With regards to the OP. In a males first aid kit, yes. In his rucksack for randoms, no.
