Random men carrying tampons is weird

Ikeasucks · 06/08/2022 19:15

Just seen a conversation on twitter with men talking about carrying tampons and pads to be helpful if they come across some woman who might need one. I thought it was weird - or am i the weird one?

Nope
Toxic masculinity still alive and well amongst teenage boys unfortunately.

Thank God it is. I joke with DH he never has to worry about me cheating when we’ve witnessed some form demasculated men in the wild.

I think it was the bunch of university aged men who squealed (not an exaggeration- these guys could have rivaled any woohoo woman in a bar) in line at Starbucks because the pumpkin spiced lattes were available.

of course what others see as toxic masculinity I just see as guys doing their thing. But whatever.

lemmein · 06/08/2022 20:26

When I need one, I am in a stall in a loo and say, "oh bugger, has anyone got a tampon?". If a male voice answered, "yes" I'd be very very freaked out.

This really made me laugh Grin

And...there's no way teenage boys carry tampons 'just incase' - absolute bullshit 🙄

Why did you delete the name? You know if you search for the conversation Twitter brings it up, standard.

So, was this some attempt at bringing trans people into a conversation given the original poster is he / him but biologically female? Yawn.

Are you saying the original poster on Twitter is a trans man?

probably that’s why he’s carrying tampons then (and why his menstruating friends ask if he has any).

Burying the lede a bit, OP?

@NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor the OP didn’t do a very good job because the Twitter name is in blue on the reply.

Huh? Boys not carrying tampons is toxic masculinity? OTT, much?

Bikeybikeface · 06/08/2022 20:31

@Deepclean nope, doesn’t happen. Never heard such a load of shite.

Galvanisethis · 06/08/2022 20:32

We really shouldn't be hating on a man that wants to do this.

Why are you being deliberately obtuse?

Do you know what the suffragette movement was about?

Clue: It wasn’t Votes for Men or People.

Dreamwhisper · 06/08/2022 20:33

It feels a bit white knighty, I did like though hearing a Youtuber saying he keeps tampons/pads at his house for when he has a lady over though.

Carrying them round is a bit weird. Women ask women for sanitary products. I'd never ask a bloke. How would it come up. Do they think as soon as we get our periods we look like the ending scene in Carrie?

RobertaFirmino · 06/08/2022 20:33

I can see why a male secondary school teacher might carry them about, or a male carer for a female client but anything else is plain creepy.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/08/2022 20:33

Sorry, they've lost me at a "person who menstruates".

'Hating on'? Blimey.

GetYourSeasideArmsOffMe · 06/08/2022 20:34

It's always tampons isn't it?
At school I was the only girl to use tampons. There was a taboo about it, tricky if you don't get them right and have to time changing to avoid TSS. Most girls used pads and with period pants available today I can't see why tampons would be the choice
Except you can if you really think about it and shake your naivety. Grim.

If you'd insert something in your body that a random male, most likely with a fetish, gives you then that's a Darwin award right there.

BritWifeInUSA · 06/08/2022 20:34

Why tampons to “help in an emergency?”. Most women who use tampons need them 4 or 5 days a month. Maybe a few days more. Why not carry bottles of water? People, not just women, need water every day. You’re statistically more likely to come across someone who needs water than someone who needs a tampon. What about sugar sachets in case you meet a diabetic who’s hypo? Or an Epi-pen for an anaphylactic episode? Those are emergencies. Not tampons.

Personally I find it insulting that he thinks I can’t organize myself enough to make sure I’ve got a tampon or two in the bottom of my bag when I go out. I’ve been having periods for 38 years, mate. I think I’ve got the hang of it by now.

Dreamwhisper · 06/08/2022 20:36

Actually I don't know... Having actually read the tweets this time, it just sounds like people are making efforts to have women's health and bodily functions less of an awfully taboo subject.

I'm still a bit confused as to how the subject would come up, but I'm certainly not going to assume it's nefarious.

A little bit cringey? Perhaps. Something to be discouraged? Not really.

ancientgran · 06/08/2022 20:36

yonce · 06/08/2022 19:22

This is what I came to say! Why couldn't he say women?

Also if a man ever offered me a tampon I'd be spooked, no way am I inserting something into me that a random man has given me 😂

Not all women menstruate.

Dreamwhisper · 06/08/2022 20:37

I do agree though, and to be fair media could be to blame because if I think of most mentions of period products in movies and TV they are often Tampons, that I wish men would realise loads of us use pads. I've had 3 DC and I still find tampons uncomfortable.

The ones with penis you mean?
We had a word for these in the old days.
Men.

Wow this is so grossly offensive, what the actual fuck?

RedCardigan · 06/08/2022 20:40

He can’t say « people who menstruate » and then when talking about himself say men. It’s all or nothing dude, if I’m not a woman then you have to describe yourself as « person with a prostate », not men/man. HTH.

Youdoyoutoday · 06/08/2022 20:40

My DP just carried mine upstairs as putting the shopping away, that's helpful.

It's nice, that the guy wants to be helpful but it's an odd choice of helpfulness. Tissues I'd get as you may see someone sneeze, cry, spill something but I do wonder how he makes it known to "persons that menstrate" that he has them!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/08/2022 20:41

Not all women menstruate

But it is recognised as a normal event for most women between certain ages and something that mo man does. Women menstruate. Men don’t. The correct word is women.

GetYourSeasideArmsOffMe · 06/08/2022 20:41

Pumpkin spice lattes are not gendered FFS.

Men.

No women who are pregnant, women who are post menopause, women who have had a hysterectomy.

True. No one should drink them. Vile muck.
