Random men carrying tampons is weird

Ikeasucks · 06/08/2022 19:15

Just seen a conversation on twitter with men talking about carrying tampons and pads to be helpful if they come across some woman who might need one. I thought it was weird - or am i the weird one?

Not a random man but dp has sanpro in his motorbike tank bag, admittedly I put it there but if he was out he could offer I suppose

Why would he offer them round like sweeties just because they're there?

You having them in his bag for your benefit isn't remotely the same as him deciding to carry them for every passing random's benefit.

But only women who menstruate need tampons or pad.

So only women who menstruate will seek these things out. If you don't need tampons, don't ask passing strangers for one.

Any passing stranger who offers you one is a complete weirdo who is best ignored.
What's not to understand?

However I have been asked multiple times if I have any Sanpro by women

I am a 48 year old woman and I have hardly ever been asked this. A few times when out with friends and once with my sister.

I have never once been asked. And I have only ever once had to ask.

And I asked a female colleague.

This twat refers to women as a person who menstruates. That tells me all I need to know about him.

Honestly didn’t realise I’d come onto the end of a really long old thread when i first posted- but if this is how these men feel about women they can keep their performative tampon shtick and accusing women of perpetuating period stigma for thinking the practice weird/creepy

You can't identify as female or male. You either are or you aren't.

You memstruate via a sexed body not an.identity.

Are you even able to define what these identities are? If you expect others to pretend words mean something other than what they do the least anyone can do is actually provide a non circular definition of what the word means.

There are plenty of people who were born biologically female who would find your comments completely offensive and that excludes them from the conversation entirely which isn't right. You're entitled to your opinion of course, but it is just that- your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. I think that if there's an issue that affects any person who was born biologically female then they deserve to be part of the conversation. But you do you.

I find it predatory, standing there with things designed to go inside my vagina.

@Jasminejoy are women not people?

Why shouldn't people also care how trans men on this site feel?

I can’t imagine many transmen wanting to hang around a site set up by women for women/mums. And why should i care how they feel - do they care about how i feel? And I didn’t start the thread to be about transmen

@Ikeasucks there is an entire trans topic

So of course there will be some on the site

And it's usually a good thing for humans to give a shit how other humans feel, shows you have some degree of a soul

It's a good point. Why would a trans man who is apparently triggered by the word woman hang around on Mumsnet?

Yet our conversations must be tempered to spare their feelings. As ever, trans people must be front and centre, even when they're not in the room.
No.

Quite! 10 years from now it'll be 'did you see that article on 'birthing-persons-net'? 🙄

nope, not really interested in transmen tbh or particularly care. I doubt they’ll be bothered

You're being every bit as objectionable as you're berating other posters for being. We don't all care about the same things, or the things we're instructed to care about by some finger wagging random who uses insults as a spur.
The irony is quite amusing.

If I got caught out it wouldn’t even cross my mind that some random bloke would have a tampon??? Weird.

Add to that what are the chances they have my preferred brand, correct absorption or as I dont use tampons, correct pad. Frankly at this point they may as well carry a man bag to cover all possibilities including mooncups, period pants, reusable pads etc.

Or just leave us to it, by the time we are a few years in we have the hang of it mostly. We managed all these years without ever asking a man, pretty sure we can carry on.

You left out the ‘be kind’. Don’t hold back now.

Won't somebody think of the trans men 😂

Well yes

Hence why many use inclusive terms, not purposely being a dick is seen in most circles as a positive thing.

Trans men have periods. Thus are as included in this conversation as women

crochetmonkey74 · 07/08/2022 15:16

The fact that he only carried tampons, not pads, wipes, moon cup, spare pants etc shows he has no actual understanding of periods just a weird uneducated fetish.
All women just pop a small tampon up there and don't need anything else. It's an American movie version of periods

LynetteScavo · 07/08/2022 15:20

Deepclean · 06/08/2022 19:32

It's normal in my kids' secondary school for the boys to carry period products around in case their female friends need them. I think it's rather lovely and took the OP's post in the same spirit, but perhaps I'm missing something

Seriously? My DSs could barely remember to have their own calculator on them, so I can't imagine them having a spare of anything "just in case", let alone something they would never use themselves.

Anyone triggered by biology needs help. Not placating by unconsenting strangers re writing the English language for said select group who cant handle reality

I don't believe this for a second. It is neither normal nor lovely.

My 17 YO ds isn't even organised enough to make sure he has everything he needs on a school day everyday, no way would he carry tampons just in case a female friend got caught short. As far as I know, neither he nor dd know of any male acquaintances who does this at school, and would consider this behaviour strange if any of their male friends did it.

ImHavingAnOldFriendForDinner · 07/08/2022 16:08

If I was wearing *white leggings and a crop top I wouldn't take a tampon from him just for being a knob and saying "person who menstruates"!

*Not that I'd ever wear that because I'd look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy!
