Random men carrying tampons is weird

Just seen a conversation on twitter with men talking about carrying tampons and pads to be helpful if they come across some woman who might need one. I thought it was weird - or am i the weird one?

It's normal in my kids' secondary school for the boys to carry period products around in case their female friends need them. I think it's rather lovely and took the OP's post in the same spirit, but perhaps I'm missing something

Surely every girl who has periods carries a slightly squashed pad and a couple of tampons in the bottom of her school bag for emergencies. Totally unnecessary for boys to be having anything to do with it. Woke posturing nonsense. Ooo girls I'm so very in tune with your needs. Can I have a shag now

I told my husband to get some for his Scout camp bag - but he’s a Scout leader and has girls 10-14 on his camps. He’s rather famous for having ‘everything’ in his bag so I though we might as well add some basic pads just in case. Our own dd started her first period at a friend’s house so it does happen.

random man offering people tampons, erm…. V weird!

Stravaig · 06/08/2022 20:05

I'd guess that tweet isn't about carrying tampons, it's about writing 'person who menstruates'. They are handy in first aid and fire-starting kits though (non-applicator ones).

just imagining boys carrying tampons to be helpful when i was at school early/mid 80s 😒. Have boys really changed that much?

Nope
Toxic masculinity still alive and well amongst teenage boys unfortunately.

334bu · 06/08/2022 20:05

I only work with men though so I've no qualms about asking if I'm stuck for one.

So why would you even ask people who have no need of these products? Do you carry shaving foam and razors in your glove box?

Mississipi71 · 06/08/2022 20:05

..and men say women should keep out of men's business 🙄

Just to add - my DB has female employees in his small company and he does provide tampons and pads, hair elastics, face wipes and deodorant available in the work bathroom, but that’s at the direct suggestion of his bossy sisters. He’s a single dad to a 6 year old girl so there are also Jojo bows, and a million scrunchies but I think that’s more of a coincidence Grin

My OH also runs a small business and there are San pro in the bathroom as he became aware that female members Of staff sometimes were stuck but wouldn’t ask him.
But he doesn’t carry them around anywhere else (I have a coil so haven’t needed anything for years so we are bit oblivious).

Hopeandlove · 06/08/2022 20:10

I used one in a stabbing once on someone’s leg - it was fab! (The use of the tampon to stop the bleeding not the stabbing)

Wafflesnsniffles · 06/08/2022 20:10

Women menstruate, "people" as a collective noun do not.

Missingpop · 06/08/2022 20:11

It’s not weird it’s downright fucking freaky; if I ever meet a guy who carries tampons or pads just in case he meets a woman might need them; I will run as fast as my little trotters can carry me & will keep running the fuck away from the freak.
I’ve never heard of any men doing this & believe me I have 5 brothers; my husband has 7 & none of them would entertain carry any for their wives let alone just incase a stranger needed one. Seriously weird really fucked up weird

Wouldn’t ask a bloke though would you

Staynow · 06/08/2022 20:13

Does he think transmen are more likely to ask men for tampons?? Did he get the idea from a transwoman? Unless he broadcasts that he has them why would anyone ever think to ask him? Does he carry around plasters, paracetamol, bandages and other things to be useful to women/men or just sanitary products?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/08/2022 20:14

Being inclusive and not purposely offending people is hardly a red flag

erasing women and the fact that only female humans menstruate is though.

scrumpledtitskin · 06/08/2022 20:15

@334bu

I was in a meeting with my male colleagues, came out of the toilet after realising I'd come on unexpectedly. I said I'm going to have to go to the shop to get sanitary products, unless any of you have any on you?

And luckily one did in his car.

Simple really, not sure what the fuss is 🙄🤷‍♀️

corlan · 06/08/2022 20:15

It's clearly a fetish.

Soubriquet · 06/08/2022 20:16

I find it weird that they insist on carrying tampons.

Not every woman can use a tampon. They would be better off carrying pads.

But tampons are more “sexual” to them

StillHappy · 06/08/2022 20:17

Very weird, very creepy. How would they ever know that a woman needed one?

MissMaple82 · 06/08/2022 20:18

Bollocks do teenage boys carry sanpro in case their friends need it.

Only women menstruate.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/08/2022 20:19

Only women bleed.

No, I don’t believe that at all. Someone is pulling your leg, or has issues.

You don’t insert pads so not as interesting to the Yanivs

Icedbannoffee · 06/08/2022 20:20

There's no scenario on this planet where I'd ask a bloke for a tampon. When I first started dating my now DH he kept a box in the bathroom at his as I stayed over so often and I thought that was thoughtful, but fuck no. I don't know any women either that randomly carry them around for this purpose.

AlwaysLatte · 06/08/2022 20:23

That's so weird. And how would the provider and recipient get to know about each other? That's even weirder. Nope!
