Bit of Filler... husband furious!

Aibu?

Went for my 6 monthly Botox treat today and decided to have a tiny bit of filler in my lips.
They are currently swollen and look bigger than they will in a few days - but by no means a trout pout!
Well my husband and eldest child have gone absolutely mad at me. They can barely look at me!
They are furious!
I can't believe my appearance causes them so much anguish when they barely look at me in normal circs!
Said I look like I'm off TOWIE trying to be 20 and ridiculous...
Husband is really really cross. I feel like I'm 15 again!
I by the way, love it!
Just turned 50 and have 4 kids...

I just felt like looking after me and trying something new.
Aibu - it's up to me? My face, my choice?!?

I’d understand if you had had something permanent like a nose job or boob job.. then I’d (still do it) but discuss it out of courtesy, however, filler is absorbed by the body within a few months. Tell them to go fuck themselves and enjoy looking after you 😉

AnnieSnap · 02/08/2022 23:08

Your body, your money, your choice. On the other hand filled lips look bloody awful (ducks behind sofa, let the brick bats be thrown). I’d be pretty horrified if my DH came home after having something like that done to his face!

royly · 02/08/2022 23:08

It’s your face, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

If my Dh got a face tatt I would prob divorce him

minipie · 02/08/2022 23:08

Yeah, after your post about how he was encouraging a boob lift, he lost all sympathy. Tosser.

FlissyPaps · 02/08/2022 23:10

You've had shit injected into your lips

The ingredients of lip filler do not include shit. They are a synthetic hyaluronic acid, which is already a substance found in the body.

If you personally don’t like them, don’t get them done. You won’t achieve anything telling the OP they’re shit…. She obviously likes them and wanted them.

Thinkingblonde · 02/08/2022 23:10

I can always tell when someone’s had their lips done..I can’t look away.
The girl over the road has had hers done, when she has them redone they look bigger each time. Her top lip almost reaches her nose, she beginning to look like a Martian, I Think she’s had cheek implants too.
But it’s her choice.

Fraaahnces · 02/08/2022 23:12

Is your eldest a boy or a girl? I think they need a good talking to about body ownership and entitlement.

milkyaqua · 02/08/2022 23:13

The ingredients of lip filler do not include shit.

For real? Obviously. Have you not heard of the colloquial use of shit for stuff?

Let me rephrase that: You have had foreign substances injected into your lips. Which puff them up and just them out in an unnatural manner, unpleasant to the eyes of many, but beloved by those who embrace the trend.

Hiddenvoice · 02/08/2022 23:13

I think if my dh came home and had a little bit of work done then I’d probably be a bit miffed as I like him exactly how he is.
Its your body, your choice. If you’re happy with it then great but if they don’t like it then that’s their choice too.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 02/08/2022 23:14

Yeah I am with the posters here who say they are on your husband's side. YABU.

When you're married, you do have to take your husband/wife's feelings and opinions into account, and at least consult them, out of pure common decency. I would be livid if my husband came home with his face all puffed up like a hamster with his food in his cheeks, or lips like Pete Burns.

'Your body your choice' is always trotted out on here, but when you're in a relationship, your partner's opinions do matter.

Also if you're married, it's not YOUR money. It's family money/joint money.

So IMO @Bonnie7 YABVU. And having lip fillers at 50? Just no. And I say that as someone who is close to that age, so I am not being ageist. It does smack of trying to look younger, and in the vast VAST majority of cases, you will just look like a duck. It won't make you look 10 years younger.

Busybeeble · 02/08/2022 23:14

Your body, your choice

But to be fair, they’re the ones who will have to be seen out in public with you so I can see their point too.

(IMHO lip filler is very dated and not a good look, so I can imagine that maybe your kids are just embarrassed for you and or them)

seaUrchinOne · 02/08/2022 23:14

Your DH isn't setting a good example to your son be openly furious about it, I hope your son doesn't grow up to be controlling to women. It's your lips, the swelling will go down.

royly · 02/08/2022 23:15

I always wonder why people are so judgemental of others choices on cosmetic procedures; not your body, not your problem.

there's nuance though isn't there. On the one hand I believe people should do what they like but the other hand it's damaging for dc to grow up in this "fake" world & there can be lots of damage from procedures. I think it's worse when people do all the stuff & lie about it though, really damaging to teens

Housenoob · 02/08/2022 23:16

How many ml of filler did you get?

Those that are saying all lip filler jobs are trouty and awful, that's just because those are the ones you notice who have had them pumped up repeatedly with over 1ml.

You can get some amazing subtle results with 0.5ml- you still look like yourself but just slightly enhanced, so when people look at you they may notice something different but not entirely sure what. Hopefully once the swelling has gone down then OP's family will calm down a bit!

Goodnewsday · 02/08/2022 23:16

Yip your face your choice! Same thing happened to me but with my mum! I got it once before, the tiniest amount but as you say they swell up way more and don’t look great at first. This time they took longer to go down and even I was a bit paranoid but it’s now over 2 weeks later and they look natural now. Life’s too short to look in the mirror and wish you could change something

Busybeeble · 02/08/2022 23:16

Fraaahnces · 02/08/2022 23:12

Is your eldest a boy or a girl? I think they need a good talking to about body ownership and entitlement.

Yes, and about self acceptance and self respect too for good measure

HeadacheEarthquake · 02/08/2022 23:16

Did he notice or did you tell him
I had my nose done 3 times and he didn't even notice

Tabitha005 · 02/08/2022 23:17

Aren't you supposed to have some sort of test before having anything like collagen or botox done? It seems a bit of a risk to just have it done on the spur of the moment, and I'd question the ethics of a aesthetician who didn't undertake any pre-testing.

Personally, I don't think you should have sought your husband's 'permission' beforehand, though. Your body, your choice. His thoughts on a tit job mark him out as a total hypocrite if he's more than willing to 'let' you undergo a major surgical procedure that'll undoubtedly bring some 'benefits' for him personally, but loses his shit at you getting your lips done.

justasking111 · 02/08/2022 23:17

My family would be like this. They're funny when I have different hair cut/colour. Like hair lip filler doesn't last long so no harm done.

Question does lip filler affect the sensitivity of your mouth??

warofthemonstertrucks · 02/08/2022 23:17

I've been having Botox for a few years-just a bit here and there. Neither dp or the kids ever noticed except to say I look well occasionally (Usually in the week after I have it). Kids recently found out and were so annoyed. Dont know why really and I couldn't care less-my money, my face.
Sod them op.

saveforthat · 02/08/2022 23:18

I just think it's really sad that you consider having that done a treat. When I look at celebrities who have had this done, I always think they looked 100% better before. I don't know anyone in real life who would even consider it.

royly · 02/08/2022 23:18

Those that are saying all lip filler jobs are trouty and awful, that's just because those are the ones you notice who have had them pumped up repeatedly with over 1ml.

How come celebs with all their money & access can never get the natural look?

Longdistance · 02/08/2022 23:18

You feel hidden and when you’ve done something different they all suddenly have an opinion.
Tell them to ‘fuck off!’

Recently on holiday I commented on a lady next to us who had wonderful boobs. My husband was all up for me having a lift! I wouldn't go that far - to go under anaesthesia but he mentioned it later and said he'd be happy to pay.

Ugh what a prick!

Why were you commenting on someone else's boobs on holiday?

Is that actually normal?

GreenClock · 02/08/2022 23:19

12 year olds are always mortified by their parents. If it weren’t your lips it would be something else!

If you’re absolutely sure you haven’t gone too far with the Botox/lips etc etc then pay them no heed. If there’s a chance they have a point and you look a bit absurd, tone it down next time.
