To be sick of the heat?

It's been like this for weeks in London now. No rain, very humid/warm, awful to sleep in etc. Shows no signs of changing anytime soon either. Also read that this could all last into Halloween. Aibu to be fed up now?

Horribly muggy here in the SW. My poor old dog is struggling massively and I’m fed up with the constant low level headache I’ve had for days. If it would rain overnight and be sunny in the day that would be an
improvement. My dad has COPD and has been on his oxygen permanently for over a week now otherwise he can’t breathe properly!

@thenewduchessoflapland - lawns are really tough, and generally revive really quickly unless newly laid so am sure yours will look green again soon. We have a roundabout which was seeded this spring and I'm hoping it's established enough to survive - should be!

I really hope so!

Summersdreaming · 02/08/2022 18:04

After sitting in my dressing gown with a blanket over me yesterday I very nearly put the heating on yesterday, NW!! I need to move down south.. who wants a house swap 😁

Babymamaroon · 02/08/2022 18:41

I'd be generally enjoying the heat but am starting to feel anxious at the lack of rain. I'd actually take a week of solid rain right now.

In London it really is very hot and humid. For once I feel envious of the weather in the North!!

Babymamaroon · 02/08/2022 18:43

@Summersdreaming Me!! Grin

Herecomestreble1 · 02/08/2022 19:02

This is a really great thread to show that SAD works both ways.

Antarcticant · 02/08/2022 19:04

We've had nothing but overcast, damp days since the heatwave where I am in the north. I'm longing for a bit of sunshine!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/08/2022 19:05

I have SAD in reverse, I start perking up in the autumn , love the winter then from Easter onwards I start going downhill again.

Crazymadchickenlady · 02/08/2022 19:21

Well it’s not stopped raining nearly all day here! At the moment the rain is sweeping up the valley in front of our house.

Crazymadchickenlady · 02/08/2022 19:23

Here you are for everyone missing the rain

To be sick of the heat?
FlyingFlamingo · 02/08/2022 19:27

Come to Wales, it’s pissing it down and I’m under a blanket on the sofa Grin

Derek the weather says a heatwave is coming…it’s reaching the dizzy heights of 23 on Monday HmmGrin

I love Wales! Last time I visited, it was 25 and breezy and so nice.

I would go to Wales next week if I could!

lollipoprainbow · 02/08/2022 19:36

Yes! My bedroom is like an oven at night and unbearable to sleep, I'm constantly boiling although I'm wondering if this is more perimenopause! Don't remember Ever having weeks of this heat before.'

lollipoprainbow · 02/08/2022 19:37

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor same !

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/08/2022 19:38

lollipoprainbow · 02/08/2022 19:37

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor same !

Shit, isn't it? Especially as we're meant to be grateful for this weather 🙄

DoubleShotEspresso · 02/08/2022 19:38

Living in London last few weeks has been horrendous- actually nauseous and totally brain fried at this point.
Just need some damn air and ill cope. Just

SBAM · 02/08/2022 19:45

@FlyingFlamingo 23 sounds pleasant! I’m in the west of Essex and it’s been humid for weeks. There’s been dark clouds but no more than a mm or two of actual rain in probably a month now, not since before the two really hot days. I’m not fussed about the brown and dead lawn, it’s mostly clover and it’ll revive. It’s the rest of the plants, and all the crops that’s got me concerned. Combined with the Ukraine situation I’m very worried about the food supplies for the autumn and winter.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 02/08/2022 19:47

Oh how I envy those who have been having rain and cooler temperatures - I work outside, all day, every day, in a very physical manual job and struggle, at the best of times, with temperatures much above 20 degrees ( the reason why I have no central heating in my house) and the incessant heat and humidity is becoming very tiresome now.
And, as for the lack of rain, well...here, in my corner of Somerset, my rain gauge has recorded less than 2" IN TOTAL since 16th March, the last day we had any appreciable rainfall - we need weeks and weeks of the precious, lifegiving stuff to reduce the soil moisture deficit and put things back on an even keel, restore groundwater reserves and act as a balm to the parched and arid land and my soul!

Antarcticant · 02/08/2022 20:10

We should set up a Mumsnet 'house swap' thread. All of us oop north who are sick of the rain can swap for a week with those of you who are too hot.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/08/2022 20:16

I like the heat but not this horrible humidity.

User135644 · 02/08/2022 20:18

Is it only the south that get summers in the UK?

We had the apocalyptic hot 2 days here in the north but summer has barely got going at all otherwise. It pissed it down all morning today.

feellikeanalien · 02/08/2022 20:20

It's tipping it down in our bit of the NE. Got up to the heady heights of 23 today for about half an hour. I feel like it's hardly been summer at all. The heather is starting to come out now which means there's not much summer left.

CeltictigerMum · 02/08/2022 20:21

Longing for autumn and winter, sunny and cold is ideal. I bloody hate it so hot. In fact I would go so far as to say I have the opposite to S.A.D. I feel low and depressed in the boiling hot sun. Would much rather a chilly, drizzly day .

DillDanding · 02/08/2022 20:21

I am sprawled on a sofa outdoors, drinking a g&t and admiring my garden.

But I’m fucking boiling and I am fantasising about Autumn and winter clothes which I like 100% better.

lollipoprainbow · 02/08/2022 20:28

Autumn is perfect for me, warm days with a slight nip in the air, cooler evenings, dark by 7/8 lovely !!
