To be sick of the heat?

It's been like this for weeks in London now. No rain, very humid/warm, awful to sleep in etc. Shows no signs of changing anytime soon either. Also read that this could all last into Halloween. Aibu to be fed up now?

I hope it's all right to ask this here
I'm struggling clothes wise

I see a lot of women in leggings in this weather, even on the Tube

I presume it's the type of fabric that claims to keep you cool while working out, but I tried a couple of those brands for running - and found they weren't as good as thin cotton and were way more expensive

Anyone got any leggings recommendations for hot weather? Thanks.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/08/2022 23:52

It's been disgustingly humid here. Not excessively hot after the 39⁰C weather passed; about 22/23⁰C but a thick blanket of dull grey cloud with occasional rain, enough to green the grass up, but not enough to wash the air out.

Poor DS has had an unheard of 5 asthma attacks in a week and got through more ventolin in a week than the past 3 years put together. He's had two ambulances out, spent an all nighter in A&E and is now on a new care plan. He's never reacted in the summer before; he occasionally goes tight in the chest as autumn cools into winter or after a virus.
4 asthma attacks have been triggered from the air change walking from outside into air conditioned/ chilled shops.

I'm just hoping that he'll cope with the sea air on holiday as we're going camping soon so I can't keep him indoors with a hepa filter. It's rather worrying and is really limiting what we can do with his holidays. (Last summer was restricted by t'other DS being permanently dizzy/ nauseas with labyrinthitis, so we haven't had a normal summer holidays since the washout of 2019 🙄)

Leftbutcameback · 02/08/2022 11:26

@BogRollBOGOF is that related to poor air quality? My lungs don't cope well above about 30, but I've had lots more asthma problems in London in the heat. By the sea I find it much much better.

Mrsherdwick · 02/08/2022 11:32

NW - Lancashire here. It was pouring with rain all night and this morning. Dog walk in water proofs this morning. All you southerners are welcome to some of it.

Goldieshock · 02/08/2022 11:38

The humidity is just dreadful
Cannot sleep in this weather despite all the 'tricks' as cannot cool the upstairs of the house down enough to be comfortable
East Anglia here and no proper rain for weeks and none forecast

TheLostNights · 02/08/2022 11:53

Definitely a North/South divide.
In London its been muggy and very hot for weeks with no rain. Just awful.

No it isn't. We aren't North or South and ours has been humid too.

There is a whole swath of people who live in the centre of the country.

West Yorkshire - ditto.

I think it's more manageable when it's sunny. That to me is what summer is.

Here, these overcast and grey days, with temps up to 30 are so sticky and unbearable. There's no air, sleep is crap, constant sweating and feeling yuk.

bookworm14 · 02/08/2022 13:21

Where are you hearing that it’s going to last until Halloween, OP? I can’t cope if that’s the case.

Evenstar · 02/08/2022 13:27

We have had almost no rain here (a couple of showers less than two minutes) for over a month, our bedroom has been around 24° minimum for weeks. I am feeling quite unwell now as I have some health problems which mean I struggle with temperature regulation. The humidity is awful.

I have an elderly pug who is struggling in the heat too, those wishing for good weather would really not like this it is grey and oppressive. If it is like the summer of 2018 we could have it well into the autumn.

OneTC · 02/08/2022 13:33

It's hot?

Headbandheart · 02/08/2022 13:35

Solution
move to north west or have a long holiday here.

my lawn is green and my plants are blooming

I have water leaking into my kitchen this morning where builders are replacing my roof and it rained so hard ,last night it got in 😢 they have to do it as weather is not holding dry for more than a day or 2.

im sitting in my house with a lightweight sweat top on, I’d say my hands are a wee bit chilly. It’s probably a bit warmer outside around 18 degrees. I may go for a walk if it stops raining.🤷🏼‍♀️

we don’t seem to have had a summer at all- we had 2 days of extreme heat during that heat wave (ok it got to 30 ish) but rest of time it’s barely got above 21)

it’s not everywhere ..just everyone focuses on the south and east

Headbandheart · 02/08/2022 13:36

Aye, well I regard anything south of Shropshire or Lincolnshire as the south - so still a north south divide imho. 🤣🤣

thenewduchessoflapland · 02/08/2022 13:38

Thé lack of rain is worrisome;I know this is a first world problem but we spent nearly 20K on having our garden landscaped 18 months ago;if the lawn dies because of the lack of moisture then it'll cost thousands to be replaced and we can't afford it;it took years to save to have the garden done.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/08/2022 23:30

I'm 'up north' and it was so hot again today. I was sweating like a pig in shorts and a vest top. It's finally raining at the moment and will do intermittently through the night apparently but it's still so muggy and oppressive - we need a thunderstorm to clear the air but there's no chance of that.

It hadn't rained for weeks until a few days ago when it suddenly started and we've had a few showers since.

Where are you up north? I’m in Nw and it’s cool and wet as usual for this summer. Seems like we missed summer

TheLaLaLady · 02/08/2022 13:43

West Yorkshire here and it’s only 19 degrees. I’m sitting in a fleece blanket

neverbeenskiing · 02/08/2022 13:47

I am currently experiencing the joy of drug-induced menopause (in preparation for a hysterectomy) so yes, the novelty of the hot weather has well and truly worn off for me and I want it to stop. I feel like I've forgotten what it's like to not be sweaty!

Coffeewinecake · 02/08/2022 13:52

In London and my experience feels different to PPs! Warm - low to mid 20s - blustery and cool evenings, sleep with windows open. But agree, we need some rain!

pimlicoanna · 02/08/2022 14:13

I'm with you. I'm looking forward to autumn

emmathedilemma · 02/08/2022 14:16

It's the humidity that's killing me, it's so unpleasant even though the air temp isn't that warm here (about 20-22 at most). We had rain last night which i hoped would clear the air but it seems to have made it worse, I only walked a mile this morning and I was dripping in sweat when i got back. I've also got a headache which I'm sure if due to the atmospheric pressure.

Livpool · 02/08/2022 14:20

Raining here last night and most of today. It has brightened up now but not very warm and very breezy.

Had 1 and a half hot days and still waiting for summer so start to be honest

SNAFU247 · 02/08/2022 14:27

Eugh totally agree. It's actually so tiresome and exhausting now - it hasn't rained here in weeks and weeks. I'm in Cambridgeshire area. Currently 27 degrees and so bloody humid - Its becoming hard to WFH., At night it barely gets below 18. The house is always so stuffy, despite windows open/fans etc.

What was quite a well maintained lawn out the back (usually not the best gardener but I spent quite a bit of time and money putting lawn feed and seed down during late spring/early summer and tending to it) is just dust. Its gone beyond even burnt brown/hay stage. It's just dust.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/08/2022 14:29

I can cope with dry heat ,just, but this bloody awful muggy weather can fuck right off.

Leftbutcameback · 02/08/2022 16:22

@thenewduchessoflapland - lawns are really tough, and generally revive really quickly unless newly laid so am sure yours will look green again soon. We have a roundabout which was seeded this spring and I'm hoping it's established enough to survive - should be!
