To be sick of the heat?

It's been like this for weeks in London now. No rain, very humid/warm, awful to sleep in etc. Shows no signs of changing anytime soon either. Also read that this could all last into Halloween. Aibu to be fed up now?

Hi all - we're afraid that we don't believe the OP is genuine. We've removed their threads and posts.

Shame we can't swop a bit of our heavy muggy days with a few days of downpours and give everyone a bit of what they like.

It's not the heat that's bothering me, it's the humidity (Herts), everyone seems sluggish and short tempered. I feel like a sweaty mess. My garden is brown.

VioletInsolence · 01/08/2022 22:47

Yep I’m absolutely sick of it. I didn’t quite realise how humid it is in Cambridgeshire and kind of thought it was me just feeling unwell. Last week I was in Holmfirth in Yorkshire and I slept under a duvet with the window wide open listening to the rain….it was bliss!! I felt so much better in myself by the end of the week.

Now I’m back in my stuffy first floor flat lying on a dog cooling mat and spraying myself with water. 2 effing 9 tomorrow😫😫😫.

Leftbutcameback · 01/08/2022 22:50

There really is a significant north south split in the weather this summer - much more noticeable than usual. Although there are places up north also struggling with lack of rainfall.

I agree though - 27 degrees today and humid. Not a great temperature to do things (days out, walking etc). I WFH and have a proper desk chair but I get really sweaty sitting on it in the afternoon.

BobMunster · 01/08/2022 22:51

With you, OP.

I'm so ready for scarves and leaves and rain bursts and chilly hands and Bake Off.

To be sick of the heat?

No, it’s summer.
Winter will be long and cold enough.
I can’t really get on board with the constant weather moaning.

This!

It’s the same every year. We have seasons, and it’s cold, dark and wet for most of the year, too bad you have to put up feeling too hot for a couple of weeks.

tillyandmilly · 01/08/2022 22:58

I am moving up north - sick of being a sweaty mess and not being able to sleep from the lack of air ! Roll on the 🍂 Autumn!

blanchrspot · 01/08/2022 23:02

I like heat & love sun but it's the particular airless London summer that is ick

awwbiscuits · 01/08/2022 23:03

35 weeks pregnant and utterly utterly sick of feeling so disgusting and hot :(

evilharpy · 01/08/2022 23:06

I'm moving back to Ireland soon and dreading the shit weather (the only part I'm not looking forward to). I wish the weather was like this all the time, but with rain overnight so the plants didn't die.

No thank you. We've only had a few days of proper summer weather here.

Can't wait to get abroad for some proper sun and warmth.

Wineat5isfine · 01/08/2022 23:09

I absolutely love the summer. But this extreme heat / extreme mugginess is absolutely hideous.

We had 10 mins of rain on Sunday (Chiltern Hills). That’s the most in well over a month. Our lawns are yellow (trying to conserve water), I haven’t slept properly in weeks…I’m so ready for autumn.

Suetwo · 01/08/2022 23:09

Oh, thank god. I thought it was just me! I'm in Essex and hate, hate, hate it. I love the sunshine, but I utterly hate the heat. It's sticky and muggy at night, which makes it so hard to sleep, and I feel heavy and sluggish all day. Every time we get a little break, and there is a slight breeze, or the temperature dips, I feel like a new person. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd be yearning for the weatherman to say "drizzly and overcast."

Ugghh, it's going to be 28 here on Tuesday AND on Wednesday...right up in the 80s. The first time I can wear and coat and scarf and see my breath I will be the happiest person in Essex.

Wilkolampshade · 01/08/2022 23:13

The heat's bad yes, but for me, the lack of rain is worse. I had (half) planted the garden to be droughtproof, lots of palms, senecio etc, but it's on poor London soil comprised of cat-shit and concrete and doesn't retain moisture at all. Would LOVE some overnight rain. Atm am emptying my washing up water on plants to keep them going, but the elderberries and blackberries have already ripened and it feels like autumn.
Never mind. Will be winter soon.

MrsBean88 · 01/08/2022 23:19

I don’t think people truly realise how bad it is in summer in the south, especially London, it’s unbearable. The humidity is stifling and you can’t move without sweating, there’s no air not even at night it’s just muggy and sticky. Nothing nice about it at all.

I hate summer, I always have. The heat, the wasps, the hayfever, the flying ants! Id much rather Autumn 🍂 or winter. I’d love a storm right now with subsequent cooler air PLEASEEEEEEEE.

A miserable Londoner!

blanchrspot · 01/08/2022 23:20

yes the local common is straw

NuffSaidSam · 01/08/2022 23:20

It feels like the first extended proper summer for years and years and I don't care for it. It's been dry and warm for about two months!

I like a few days of cold rain in between the summer days 😂

WhyDoesItAlways · 01/08/2022 23:21

I think the 2 day heatwave has given me a new perspective on the temperature. I put a (thin) jumper on today because it was only forecast to be 28°. I kind of forgot that that's still quite warm!

But still not as bad as 2018

just hoping it doesn't extend into September...

Smokealarmwakeup · 01/08/2022 23:23

Up north it’s rained everyday! It’s miserable for summer

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 01/08/2022 23:28

Sorry but this did make me laugh. Whats What's dog doing?

I love it, I love warmth, humidity and all. I do wish it would rain really hard for a day for all the plants and wildlife but other than that it is perfect. I can't remember the last time we had rain.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 01/08/2022 23:29

On holiday in the lakes where it is struggling to reach 20 and everything is suspiciously green. Miss summer. Hope it is still going on when we get back home to the south.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/08/2022 23:30

I'm 'up north' and it was so hot again today. I was sweating like a pig in shorts and a vest top. It's finally raining at the moment and will do intermittently through the night apparently but it's still so muggy and oppressive - we need a thunderstorm to clear the air but there's no chance of that.

It hadn't rained for weeks until a few days ago when it suddenly started and we've had a few showers since.

Wexone · 01/08/2022 23:35

come to Ireland then. 1st of Aug and its a bank holiday today rained all day. actually suggested to himself that we light the fire. we haven't had one full week of actual nice weather. and I live in the sunny South east as they call it. no wonder mist of the country are gone abroad

I'm in Ireland lying in bed listening to the wind and rain outside. It's warm rain though so that's a plus.
