Season three isn't on Netflix which is annoying !!

Season 3 and the Christmas special are on Amazon but you need to pay.

I fucking hate Julia with a passion and I cannot understand how all these women say they are like Julia as if this is some sort of claim to fame and attractive quality - it is seriously seriously not.

It's the chaotic Side of her that I relate too for example.. turning up on Inset day/ waiting until the last minute to buy school uniform/ wanting to throw the bop it toy out of the car window.

I really don't think she's that bad, I think she shows how stressful juggling work/family can be.

I just got Julia in the quiz. I don't think it's attractive no, but there's a lot there that's true to my experience

ODFOx · 30/07/2022 23:49

I see my old self in Julia for the inset day/harvest festival/shoe shopping/can't find reliable childcare stuff (though I never asked my Mum) but Meg for the 'keeping all the plates spinning' stuff and then looking back on the 'single Mum working full time in a role not dissimilar to 'Head of product development at GSK 'being Brown Owl, doing the PCC and doing a full on graveyard and decorated house for Halloween every year' I realise that actually I'm a psychopathic combination of all of them (except Amanda as I've never had time to worry about my roots) and the reason I love this show is that it is my own weirdly broken story #toorealinspiteofbeingbonkers

I don’t really like it, it’s funny but all the characters are over caricatured and become annoying. It would be even funnier if the characters were 15% less stereotyped.

I felt like that the first time I watched it, it almost stressed me out and they were unlikeable. And then it seemed to settle down and now when I watch it back from the start I just love them all.

but I love love love Julia and her fantasy relationship with the builder / repair man, and Anne, head of GlaxoSmithKline smith Kline, not greggs 😂😂😂😂

there is a scene when Julia is tidying the kitchen and she picks up a bowl of random kitchen stuff to deal with… she kind of quivers and just tips it into a bin… job done, ahhhh…. it’s so perfectly played, it’s an action that has no name!!! I don’t know how they come up with the subtleties but they are brilliant

God I find julia so annoying

Yep,me too

avamiah · 31/07/2022 00:26

I just loved the episode when Julia’s husbands mum and dad came to stay and even though they are adorable they are seriously hard work. The best bit was when they said they were going to move near her and look for a house and she immediately ran out of her house and across the street to a house with a “For Sale” sign up and literally yanked the sign out of the ground and threw it in a bush so they wouldn’t see it.
I laughed my head off watching this the first time and now it’s probably the 100th time and it still makes me laugh .
You must watch it .🤣

UnimpeachableBravery · 30/07/2022 17:42

I just don't get it? My group of mum friends is nothing like any of it.

Neither do I but it’s centred on well-known stereotypes. Not sure how you don’t “get it.”

I’m definitely Anne and the quiz just confirmed it. I’m not a walkover like her, but I can certainly be very similar in all the other ways.

DixonD · 31/07/2022 00:42

To clarify, my group of friends isn’t like them, not that I don’t get it.

MsTSwift · 31/07/2022 05:37

The Anne job skit was brilliant. Amanda saying she worked in Greggs then Anne apologetically admitting her amazing career.

Love it but Julia’s relationship with the husband jars us. Why is he so crap but more why does she put up with it but gets all angry at her mum? Although the crap husband is hilarious “I’m right behind you darling if you drop a plate I will pick it right up and throw it back to you”.

lollipoprainbow · 31/07/2022 10:04

@avamiah this is my favourite episode 😂😂

Needhelp101 · 31/07/2022 10:28

I absolutely love everything about this series. The characters are all so flawed but so human. I love the way there are moments of real poignancy admidst the chaos and humour.

My (male) best mate always slagged it off, having never even seen it but the other week I had the delicious pleasure of making him watch it and him having to admit that, yes, it's actually really, really funny 😁

I thought Amanda's male friend, in the pool party episode, was rather tasty. He had a lovely physique.
