DH is looking at Twitter and it's obviously about Prince William's alleged affair but can't figure out where it's coming from now all of a sudden. Anyone in the know?

@PrunedLeaf Well she’s stuck either way isn’t she? If she stayed, people will still spread rumours and if she chooses to leave for whatever reason, there’ll be even more rumours.

People will always scrutinize the status of her marriage and what’s going on behind closed doors and snigger and comment and speculate and she can’t set the record straight and even if she did, would people believe her?

The “never complain, never explain” adage makes sense, but I can only wonder what it does to a person’s mental health to have all these random people making comments and acting like they’re experts in your life. Is there any wonder why Meghan and Harry have tried to opt out of that?

Exactly! People seem to have short memories. Diana left and look at the absolute shit storm her life became. I can imagine that Kate is making what she can of her marriage/life and not wanting to rock the boat.

bollygu · 29/07/2022 11:05

@MsBucket I don't think it's him as such but the people in the background (can't remember what are they called). It's all about a positive narrative as the Royals cannot survive without goodwill from the public.
Why was the press highlighting Williams cheap Easyjet flight for the holidays whilst lambasting Harry's private jet usage. We know William used private jets but it's the budget airline photos that are released. Harry gets lots of criticism for environmental hypocrisy but again William not so much. Even the Oprah thing, both of Harry's parents have done TV interviews. I'm not defending anyone as I think they are all entitled, detached from the real world etc but there is definite hypocrisy & anger that Harry wouldn't play ball.

I don't understand why we need to have goodies & baddies but I guess it's like our personal soap opera.

Plus Harry probably burns with the indignation that his father's infidelity from the very start destroyed the happiness of his mother and ultimately led to her early demise.

bollygu · 29/07/2022 11:10

I also think the Firm was scared by the success of H&Ms tour & how M so quickly adapted (you have to give her credit for that) At one point they were incredibly popular & that's a little dangerous, look at W&Ks last tour.
I actually think the royals would have far more longevity if the "fab four" stuck & worked together.

Luckingfovely · 29/07/2022 11:11

This is a good article about the act in question...

Same 🤷🏻‍♀️

vera99 · 29/07/2022 11:14

I can't believe that Prince Andrew hasn't been interviewed by the FBI - but hey ho delete a mildly distasteful MN thread that has broadened out into an examination of a need for a hereditary monarchy in an advanced democratic state. doffs cap tugs forelock

Do you think we will see history repeating itself - in decades to come? Will Kate leave and the OW be crowned Queen - like Camilla?

It would be spectacular if the course of history ended up being changed due to a viral hashtag about pegging.

Elizabeth the first dished out the ruff stuff according to records. She loved strapping on a big hey ninny nonny and giving Frances Drake the ole cooter slam.

This post cheered up my entire day. I read it and was honking like a bilious goose.

On a loosely related point, RyanAir's tweet was inspired.

vera99 · 29/07/2022 11:20

@Luckingfovely that article was yesterday so that's the Metro and the Indie that have both tangentially referred to it now.

MsBucket · 29/07/2022 11:20

@bollygu To be honest, I’ve not seen anyone, apart from on Mumsnet, express anger towards Harry and Meghan. I don’t follow royal news closely apart from switching on the news and finding out about Philip’s death etc and discussions of the funeral and whatnot. Most of my family and friends are ambivalent about them as well so I honestly get confused by the strong emotions in here and click on links when posters share because I get curious about what’s going on 😂

Personally, when I heard that story I just I thought William was trying to be the responsible older brother who just wanted to detract attention away from the story by using a budget airline. And I just had to do a quick google and it was quite clear that it’s been reported that it’s not the first that William et al have used a budget airline but for some reason some were adamant it was a ploy to make Harry and Meghan look bad? Maybe he was just trying to help them out? Not everything is an attack or a dig.

It’s like the time when some people were speculating why Harry and William were not standing together during Philip’s funeral procession or something like that when I just had to do a quick research on Google to find out the oldest grandson would be standing in the middle etc. I just felt like people are just stoking the flames and causing drama when there needn’t be.

@vera99 I don’t think it’s mild at all. If the descriptions are accurate it’s absolutely despicable that people would speculate like that.

I do think there needs to be a discussion about hereditary monarchy but that will definitely lead to updating so many rules and regulations in this country but it’s interesting discussion to be had.

I don't get why people care about whether a couple are into anal play in private. Creepy

Datalounge (I know they are often completely wrong, but they do get some things right - many were saying that Kirk Douglas attacked Natalie Wood years before her sister confirmed it) is convinced that Meghan and Harry were behind the affair rumours - but they say that only M and H's alleged friends Nicole Cliffe and Giles Coren spread them, which isn't true. The William throwing them under the bus rumour sounds plausible - Meghan may have told some lies (if Revenge is true) but I'm not sure if she and Harry would go that far as to invent an affair.

Giles Coren wasn't the original source. And everyone ignores that Giles even in the tweet he was forced to make retracting the original tweet, said he'd made the first tweet because he'd been at a drunken journalist party where everyone had been discussing the affair rumour. "Everyone in the media is talking about it" is hardly a firm denial!

Datalounge hasn't been reliable for years, it's barely even legit forum anymore. It used to be a great albeit very adult and sharp forum with posters who knew their shit, and that's where the Kirk Douglas thing and other reliable gossip came from, from many years ago. Over the past few years it's been taken over by trolls and especially white supremacist trolls (due to the fact it's completely anonymous and has no moderation) and all the regular posters have left. If you look at it now, there are threads that are openly white supremacy/neo Nazi.

Datalounge posters regularly call Meghan Markle the N word and call her and her children moneys and say that mixed race children are an abomination. Not really a place you should use as a source.

@Sux2buthen You’re right. It’s almost shocking why people would be so interested 🤢

@StolenWillowTree You’re absolutely right! I wonder if it’s just confirmation bias?I mean even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I don't get why people care about whether a couple are into anal play in private. Creepy

But this isn't just "a couple" is it?

It's the heir to the British throne and his wife, both of whom paint themselves as paragons of normality and happily married with unimpeachable morals. And whose PR machine has to some extent benefited from putting clear blue water between themselves and Harry and Meghan (not that I believe this is a conspiracy cooked up by the Sussexes, but it is undoubtably true that the Firm's PR paint the Cambridges as being different).

Oh, and William is the son of a Prince who famously cheated on his beautiful but mentally damaged wife in plain sight for nearly 20 years before eventually leaving her for his mistress, leading the wife to spiral into an epic binge of self-destruction which led to her death.

Context is everything.

I also don't get why people care about what other people care about 😜

vera99 · 29/07/2022 11:32

And it's still trending on Twitter which is something of a record I would have thought.

the80sweregreat · 29/07/2022 11:34

If you want to find any anger about Harry and Meghan just click on the daily Mail comments page when they run one of their many pieces about them both. It is horrible and not just from the Brits. The daily Mail isn't behind a pay wall online and they don't tend to moderate those pages much.
They hate the fact they chose a different life and the fallout from this ( plus M won a court case about the DM too ) has fueled a real hate campaign from them.
