To think Clubcard prices causes a negative view of Tesco?

I went in to do a shop, realised I left my clubcard at home but thought I'd be able to find it on my grocery app, or mobile banking.

No, couldn't access it anywhere so instead of doing my top up shop there, probably around £60 I walked out and went to Aldi.

It left me with a negative view of Tesco and certainly less likely to just pop in after a day out at the beach etc when I don't bring my handbag, loads of regular items were 25-30% more expensive without my Clubcard.

Those at Tescos must think it encourages loyalty, it doesn't for me, anyone else?

The card is on the app, I don’t even know where my physical card is so have always used the app.

Florenz · 27/07/2022 20:38

Someone might have mentioned this already but you can take your receipt back in with your clubcard and they'll refund you the savings you would have got.

Which supermarket is a pleasant experience? How does a Clubcard take away from the experience?

I quite like shopping at Waitrose actually- much less busy, no being knocked into by children on wheelie trainers or even worse scooters, a nice deli, don't need to find a £1 coin for a trolley etc etc. I do miss the free coffee now though.

I don't like the dual pricing at Tesco, I don't like their ethics ( read lack of) and I don't find them particularly cheap and our local store always looks a bit grubby with stuff all over the floor. The staff always look stressed and miserable too.

I just wish they still gave out plastic cards. I have a clubcard but haven't been able to use it, the last time I just purchased the items at full price which was insane prices. I have the clubcard app but google refuses to save the password so there is no point in having it or shopping at tesco.

They do still give out plastic cards. You can order them through the app, or I'm pretty sure by phoning the clubcard helpline number.

@CaptaNoctem GrinGrinGrinGrin

The food looks miserable!

hesttreat · 27/07/2022 20:49

@CaptaNoctem I still don't think Waitrose is a pleasant experience? Does it offer a massage now?

fukkit · 27/07/2022 20:58

I never shop at Tesco. I don't have a club card. I'm not going to get one so that they can harvest the data and see my entire food shopping history pattern. Anywhere else!

Squellyolwelly · 27/07/2022 21:00

You should be able to take the receipt back another time and have the difference refunded

So do you have other loyalty cards?

So do you have other loyalty cards? They all do the same but Tescos offers a reduction in price to do so.

You can!

i forget mine a lot, and just take the receipt to customer services next time I shop and they add the points and refund the savings.

Even more annoying is when you've got a trolly full of shopping and realise at the till you haven't got your card. End up paying way more than you should because you haven't got time to start again at another shop.

And another annoying thing about Tesco is when you do a big shop online and when you 'check out', it tells you that 7 of the offers expire before the date of the Click and Collect.

it's such a con, they should honour the special offers when you check out and pay, not when you go to collect it. No wonder they make so much profit out of us!

whataloadabullocks · 27/07/2022 21:25

I avoid Tesco like the plague. Our local one the staff are so bloody rude, and as for their hygiene as the fresh fish/ meat counters are together and unbelievably gross...eg uses hand to pick out chicken for customer in front. Rinses (not washes) hands, wipes on filthy apron and asks what I want. I ask for some fish (expecting some proper hand washing...nope) straight into the fish, then wipes hands on apron again. I politely declined the fish, which was met with a very terse reply...
I was far too polite to say "well wash your bloody hands then, don't you understand about cross contamination, as for your apron, put that under a microscope and I reckon the store would be closed down".
Never been back since. Much prefer Asda who have really great polite and helpful staff.
That said I reckon the local Tesco staff are probably treated like shite by management, hence their general, pissed off demeanour.

britneyisfree · 27/07/2022 21:30

I don't have a club card or any of those things and it's stopped me going to tescos as it fuckingbpisses me off

This was the case when it was just points.

Now that you need the clubcard to get cheaper clubcard prices, you don't get the refund of the savings you missed out on.

I do. And that is what matters to me.

I don't particularly like massages myself. I've had a few and I really don't see me ever bothering again.

Personally I think they are all fine except Tesco and Co op. My local Tesco (a big Extra) has horrible lighting and always looks a bit grubby, and in the Co op the aisles are so narrow I worry about knocking something off a shelf.

Notanotherwindow · 27/07/2022 22:15

You can use the app or the key fob if you don’t have your purse. They literally could not make it any easier. If I'm too disorganised to use any of those, that's my fault. And really, who goes shopping with no purse, no phone and no keys?

But you don't actually pay until they've picked and packed it, which is on the day of your click and collect. So if the offer has expired by then there's nothing they can do as the offer is not on the system when they scan the stuff through I guess.

bluebellsandcustard · 27/07/2022 22:20

I've witnessed kids having to pay the higher prices because they can't/ don't have a Clubcard. It's bloody ridiculous.

ive done this and had the refund.

It really annoys me that it basically says give us your personal details or you will pay for it

This.

I'm not prepared to sell myself for my shopping.

So I don't, and shop elsewhere.

Itdoesntreallymatter · 27/07/2022 22:47

It puts me off. I don't have a club card and only pop in the the local express on the odd occasions, but sometimes I have just walked out again without buying anything as they massively inflate the price for non club card users. Go to another shop nearby instead. I can't see how they have done well out of this to be honest, but they are still running with it, so it must have worked.

Interesting I tried and was told no 🤔

Rummikub · 27/07/2022 22:53

@MrsRyan15
i had scanned and paid for my shop forgetting to scan club card. Asked the self serve lady for help. She told me to go to customer services. I did with my receipt and club card. Then given refund of the difference. It was only about £4 but I need it more than them.
