Does anyone else think dragonflies are absolutely disgusting ?

They're like bird sized insects to me that make me want to gag. Is that just me or does anyone else hate them and see them this way ?

I don't find them disgusting but I don't like them flying near me. Ok at a distance, lovely to look at. I see why they frighten you though.

I do understand that. I don't mind looking at them from a distance... I just don't like it when they fly at me like today.

Are you talking about the awful daddy long legs (crane fly) variety, rather than the colourful ones you see at lakes? I hate daddy long legs but love the blue ones. In the days when children sat on parents knees in cars, without a belt, my mother travelled 12 miles with one sitting tickling her ear, because she knew I'd go berserk in the car if it started flying around 🤣

They're wonderful and not harmful to humans in any way. How odd to have a loathing of these of all insects.

Oh yes do you mean craneflies? My parents used to call them dragonflies but they are nothing like them. I was puzzled by you saying they fly at you. I’ve never had a dragonfly fly at me but craneflies do it because they’re crap fliers.

So is manure but you don't have to like everything that is good for the planet.

Where do you live that the dragonflies are as large as birds? Or that the birds are as tiny as dragonflies?

They're beautiful creatures 😵 I love them! I genuinely didn't think anyone disliked Dragonflies, wow. I thought they were universally loved. Kinda like Butterflies & Ladybirds! 🐞

No way ! I love them and I normally hate insects ! They are beautiful!

Love em, do not want to be startled by them - I made a ridiculous EEEARGHHHHHHH noise the other day when I realised a LARGE false widow spider was marching determinedly up my leg towards me (sat with feet up on the footstool... she was heading RIGHT AT ME)... and sort of swiped her off onto the floor. And then felt guilty.

I love dragonflies so much though, I got OH to drive me to the other side of our nearest city to collect one a friend had rescued that had subsequently died, so that I could preserve it and mount it - and thats a lotta love because I really do not like TOUCHING insects much at all.

He sits on my shelf above my desk now still with all his colours, waiting for me to find a hook to hang it on properly, and missing his id label cos im a proper half-a-job-harry!

I love them too, they're amazing.
Dnephew used to call them 'insect helicopters' when he was little, I thought that was a perfect description!

I love them but then I love all living things even spiders 😊

I used to only see them rarely and think they were beautiful. However my office moved to a unit on a farm next to a lake and we get loads flying in and getting stuck in the summer. They aren't the easiest to catch and release. They freak me out to be honest.

That said, one evening I sat outside and saw tens of them darting around overhead and catching midges - definitely a new appreciation of them since then.

They're absolutely stunning, I love them. Not as much as I love bees though. Now bees really are special 🐝💖

They are quite scary because they are so big.

However the scariest insect of all...literally covering my ears saying this and I feel like I need to hide so they don't find me...are flying ants

No! They're beautiful! Had a big one get stuck in the house last year; managed to rescue it. Found a gorgeous blue damselfly on our loganberries a few weeks ago too.
