The whole ‘choices aren’t made in a vacuum’ excuse is just bullshit rolled out (mainly) on MN to excuse name calling of women.
I would love to see examples where women have disabled themselves with these nails. Where women have felt they MUST have these nails even if it means missing out on their dream job/hobby. I don’t mean the odd Daily mail story.
You can also get your nails done and be very particular about where you get your nails done to ensure it’s not somewhere that’s using slave labour.
Just because they prevent you doing something doesn’t mean it prevents anyone else.
and most women doing it are doing it because they like it. Not because they want attention. And so what if they do? What harm is that doing you?
You want attention for your personality. For alot of people that just means you are probably annoying as fuck to try and get attention. Is that reasonable judgement to make about someone you don’t actually know well enough to know their intentions?
no choices are made in a vacuum. Just like your choice to get attention for your personality isn’t. Choosing not to have nails doesn’t mean you haven’t been influenced into it.
women can make choices, acknowledge that choice isn’t made in a vacuum and still decide ‘I am doing this because I enjoy it’
I shave my arm pits. I know the history, I know the feminist problems with it. But I also had a dad who also shaved his. It’s not a choice I made with no influence. But it’s still a choice I make for me. Plenty of times I won’t shave and have my arm pits on display. Again, a choice I am making for me.
If women want to have very very long nails, that’s up to them. Deciding that they hold responsibility to make different choices cause feminism, is anti woman. That’s like saying a woman can’t be a sahp, because it’s not a good look for feminism.
You may also want to look back (since you mentioned culture) at where this trend started from and how it’s spread. Then look at the wording (trash, disgusting etc) some people on this thread have used, then guess why so many women get so offended by these trends. Because often it’s more racism than sexism.
