To wonder why people get long talon nails?

I'm fascinated by the super long, talon-like false nails. Especially the square shaped and the really pointy ones. I thought it would be a short lived statement trend but it's lasted for years now.

Curious about what people like about them? Why do you think they've been so enduring?

@Kanaloa but you know your fingers don’t need to be smeared with poo for it to get under your nails though, at least I hope you do working in a nursery.

Could a nursery nurse be allowed to have very long nails, like over an inch?

Festoonlights · 20/07/2022 14:16

They look spiteful to me. Like witches claws

No because they can be dangerous lifting children/scratching them. Same with long natural nails. Doesn’t mean they are disgusting/vile or that anyone with them should be called stupid/mocked on goady online threads.

Like with your natural nails if they are long presumably you pay attention to scrubbing them when washing your hands.

Badgirlriri · 20/07/2022 14:33

I hate natural long yellow nails on older peoples hands

dustandroses · 20/07/2022 14:34

Oh @Kanaloa I thought you meant you had changed nappies with really long nails in nursery.

I haven’t called anyone stupid or said they are disgusting.

Yellow nails are never a good look, IMO. But they are easily improved with nail polish.

No, I was simply saying that, just like natural nails, you’re unlikely to end up covered in poo as long as you take basic hygiene steps.

You personally haven’t called anyone stupid or disgusting but the thread has. They’re vile/make me need to be sick/I associate them with lower intelligence/they’re so ‘common.’ And that’s exactly what the op wanted, too. These threads are always the same. A very limited op along the lines ‘oh I simply just don’t understand this perfectly normal if not to my taste thing’ followed by hundreds of responses calling it tacky/chavvy/disgusting/dirty/stupid and indulging in nasty snobbery and classism.

Kanaloa · 20/07/2022 14:40

And just to add to that, the op never comes back to say their incredibly innocent babyish confusion is now resolved as they have been told what they couldn’t manage to figure out on their own - that people have fake nails because they like them.

Or maybe the person whose nails they are don't give a shit? 🤷‍♀️

I don't wear nail polish on my fingernails and can't see that desire changing as I get older!

Loics · 20/07/2022 18:16

One of my children's nursery nurses has acrylic nails, I couldn't care less.
I also changed my kids' nappies when I had acrylics... They're not poo magnets, you don't end up covered in it any more than you would changing a nappy with natural nails. 🙄

Why are those posting pictures, not posting the underside, I wonder?

I've had shortish take nails and yes, they get dirtier and get in the way. They aren't practical at that length, nevermind the ones two inches long.

Because whenever I've sent a photo to someone they've asked to see the design, not the underside... That would be odd.
Is it just the hygiene behind false nails that's an issue, or are long natural nails a concern too?

On this specific thread about hygiene, nobody has posted their undersides, which from experience, are harder to clean than shorter natural nails (and again, mine were a lot shorter comparatively).

Unfortunately, nobody can have it all. In the same way that if you want bleached hair, you have to accept some level you f hair damage- if you want fake nails, some things are tricky and it can be harder to scrub them clean.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but you probably need to pay extra attention to remove dirt and stuff.

BalloonsAndWhistles · 20/07/2022 18:53

Don’t know but they look really horrid and chavvy the longer they get. I last had false nails done 4 years ago and they only just covered the end of my finger. Looked beautiful.

Summerslam · 20/07/2022 19:00

I'd love to have long polished nails but I'm a nurse and it isn't part of the bare below the elbow hygiene policy. I can't be bothered to get them done just for a week's annual leave every so often.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 20/07/2022 19:59

Why are people SO obsessed with how other people wipe their arse? It’s a pretty fucking weird preoccupation when you think about it.

Do you spend time mulling over how other people attend to their bodily hygiene? Homeless people? Disabled people? People with IBS? Of course you don’t because that would be gross and creepy, yet somehow people with long nails are an endlessly fascinating source of toileting thoughts.

It's most likely because it's something literally everyone needs to do. And to add something to your fingers on purpose that could make this difficult gets people pondering?
My first thought would be pulling your pants up Grin
I don't understand your comparisons.

I suppose the comparison is it must be hard for people with certain issues to wipe themselves but I never sit around thinking about how somebody with no arms wipes their bum properly. I worry about my own bum wiping. Presumably if all these nail wearers were wandering around naked from the waist down and caked in shit due to an inability to toilet and themselves correctly they’d reconsider their nails. Otherwise we can assume everyone wipes their arse as suits them.

Because the person hasn't chosen to have no arms...

I still don’t particularly worry about how they (or anyone else) wipes their arse. I just assume that everyone is capable of deciding how to wipe their own bum and making sure they can do so.

And let’s face it, op doesn’t care about that either. She just wanted to start a little bitch fest about those chavvy nail wearers and how stupid and dirty they are and why didn’t they just get a ‘sensible French polish.’

Shoxfordian · 20/07/2022 20:41

I just wait for it to dry then shake it off since I got my acrylics

Hope that helps 🙄

This thread is hilarious. I can’t stop laughing reading some of the comments. Special mention to the poster who went on a rant about slavery.

To the posters who posted pictures of their nails, they look great.

Some styles and lengths are not to my own personal taste but the important thing is that they are to the taste of the individual who had them done.

I like my nails either oval or coffin shape, oval a little shorter, coffin I get a little longer.

I prefer to nip down to the garden every time and use the pressure washer 😁

EmeraldShamrock1 · 21/07/2022 00:29

Who wipes their bottom with their nails. I have never been left with poo on my hands/fingers/finger nails while wiping my own bum. DC excluded

If that's your reasoning then engagement and wedding rings must be full of grime faeces.

I have never seen anyone wash their jewellery in a public bathroom with a nail brush.

I'm not sure how some pp's hold toilet paper for wiping.

If that’s aimed at me, you should know that nail salons are a known source of destination for modern slavery. Obviously not all, and I agree that it’s not to do with nail length as such. But it does stop me popping into any old nail bar that I don’t know about.

I mean, laugh away at that if you like, but it’s a weird thing to find funny.
