Just being nosey really, I feel like most of the women on mumsnet are really big earners. I need help managing my money a bit better I think.

moksorineouimoksori · 19/07/2022 17:21

I work in software dev, earn just over 50k. I think people in general should be a bit more open about their earnings honestly, would hopefully make things more equal. And I'm quite nosy!

WHY do people post these threads? WHY? The vast majority of people on them just make something up.

And it turns into a brag fest, and a race for who can be on the highest salary.

They become littered with posts saying 'I have a 3 university degrees from RG universities, + a masters, and a £1.3 million apartment in London,' and 'I am a big tattooed gobshite who swears like a navvy, and am as working class as they come, but I worked my way up and am on £770K a year and live in a million pound house that I paid for with cash' type posts...

So tedious and predictable. Confused

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 19/07/2022 17:23

Part time youth worker - £12,000 a year.

Samanabanana · 19/07/2022 17:24

PR, 22k, 4 days a week, 40 weeks of the year. FTE is 30k.

Fairislefandango · 19/07/2022 17:25

Teacher. Have been doing bits of supply and very part time stuff and earning very little for years and years. Starting back full time in September and will be on just over £40k. I'm pretty lucky they're honouring my payscale level, since I've been out of ft teaching for so long!

I posted something similar - less eloquently - and got told I was being sexist. 😂

Itawapuddytat · 19/07/2022 17:28

Interpreter (self-employed). Earning around 28-30k/year

Thegreatestshowoff · 19/07/2022 17:28

Agree with @Summerslam and @WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps Threads like these supposedly attract the big earners, of which we appear to have a disproportionately huge number. However, make a suggestion on other threads about how someone could free up some time (get a cleaner, outsource dog walking etc.) and you get the absolute opposite. Apparently over there, everyone is on the very bones of their arses, unpicking 30 year old sweaters to reknit for next year’s school uniform and a regular at every local foodbank going. Obviously it’s a continuum in real life, but on here the pendulum swings very much in one direction or other with no middle ground…

Tiani4 · 19/07/2022 17:29

Qualified senior social worker but I work part time
£25k per year and I support 3 DCs (two are now 18, one already at uni) entirely on my wage and also pay my sole mortgage - their dad disappeared and is unreliable

Upping my hours now to 0.8 from 0.6 as we can't manage to cover bills now- to be fair i do more than 1.2 FTE with unpaid overtime hours (for lwhich my manager keeps saying just book in the TOIL... - yup and if I did, I'd be off full pay for two months!!! But my clients need me and none of us SWs do this job for the money)

PermanentTemporary · 19/07/2022 17:30

NHS clinician. Went back to full time work in Feb and now earn 39k. I have 10 years' experience.

I know someone who used to post on here years ago and there were posts saying she was obviously a fantasist as she was so rich - she didn't post her income but more about lifestyle stuff. It was all true.

Fairislefandango · 19/07/2022 17:33

WHY do people post these threads? WHY? The vast majority of people on them just make something up.

I doubt it. I think most people probably tell the truth, some exaggerate a bit, and a few totally lie. I'd never lie on a thread like this (or any other kind of thread). I mean... what would be the point?!

As for why people start these threads - presumably any OP who starts one is either genuinely interested, thinks most people will tell the truth and isn't bothered if a few people lie. Or... totally thinks everyone will lie and starts the thread so they can be amused by the liars?

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/07/2022 17:33

Out of interest why is women saying what they earn met with such derision or disbelief?
Naturally there will be a range of skills and salaries but it’s not beyond belief that some women can and do earn well.
My wage will can rise as I progress and get more senior

yes it’s exactly the same 🙄🙄🙄

ilovejk · 19/07/2022 17:35

I work in elections. Earn nearly 24k so not loads but not minimum wage either. Used to work in NHS (non-clinical role) for similar.

Everyone always seems to think my job would be interesting but they'd be sorely mistaken. It's boring as fuck and I'm currently trying to leave.
