Just being nosey really, I feel like most of the women on mumsnet are really big earners. I need help managing my money a bit better I think.

Senior Manager IT in the private sector:
£77k + bonus (15-20%) + car allowance (5k) + stock options
Involves managing a team and budget. I could earn more if I moved company but at the moment I enjoy my work. What is often not apparent when you start work is all the extras that you accrue as you move up bands.

@pixie5121 what do these people do! I want to be one instead of my shitty finance admin job

Well, a lot of them are there through connections and privilege. A girl I went to uni with is on 100K for being the 'marketing executive' for a designer bag company. Literally all she does is send a few emails and meet people for coffee to talk about the product.

In terms of 'normal people', I work with quite a few women earning £70K-100K in software development. Quite a few from working class backgrounds with no connections or privilege.

Surely everyone knows PhDs are rarely a good financial investment?

I own my own business and earn 7 figures a year.

But I am the fantasist, liar, Walter Mitty type right? Which is what I usually get called when I tell my story.

dropthevipers · 19/07/2022 18:51

Designer/maker of bespoke furniture. Income is variable but mostly pitiful. Enough to get by on but i don't care because I love it.

Head of Department in an independent school, 58k. I find these threads interesting as otherwise I'd have no idea!
Mind me asking what part of the country and if it's a large department? I'm also a HoD in an independent school and always interested in salaries at other schools as it's rarely advertised! I'm on £62k BTW (top of payscale so won't go any higher).

I don't think you're a fantasist! I would love to know what the business is (even a rough idea), how long it took to build it up, and how much capital you had to invest in it to get it going? I love hearing success stories.

Bibbetybobbity · 19/07/2022 18:52

£70k, charity sector, love my job. Really varied and interesting.

AhNowTed · 19/07/2022 18:52

IT service sales.
This year probably £80+
I've earned over £100k for a number of years.
Out-earned DH for 20 years and he couldn't care less.
Live in the southeast.

I'm a front end Web developer and I earn £30k. I'm not really sure where to place my experience level because I'm self taught with no relevant qualifications and although I was working for a few years before being employed it was part time as a freelancer.

Sure! It's in the North, and a tiny department. How about you?
