Wearing jeans in this weather

Why are people still not wearing summer clothes in this weather?
How hot does it need to be before people get their summer wear out?
If they go abroad would they pack winter wear.
Aren't they hot being overdressed in this weather.
Fgs get your summer clothing out. It's crazy.

Also. I'm upset.

I have extensive scarring on my legs. It's ugly and I'm self conscious.

I had someone comment on the scars in Tesco and I've decided not to subject the rest of the world to them in future.

Is that ok with you op?

I'm sorry some bellend thought it was appropriate to comment on your legs. I hope you get them out if you ever want to again without worrying about that knob.

Can you stop bringing black and brown people into white people arguing about white skin?

A black or brown person hasn't called anyone pasty.

I'm impressed that you can tell what someone on mumsnet's skin looks like.

Right?!

DuesToTheDirt · 19/07/2022 14:04

Why do you care?

I wore jeans yesterday - in Scotland so not as hot as some. I went to work, where there is air conditioning. I don't have a lot of summer clothes and what I do have is holiday gear (see above, living in Scotland, it's not needed on a daily basis). I didn't want to wear a summer dress or shorts to work, so.. jeans.

nca · 19/07/2022 14:04

@girlmom21 I don't want to take them out.

Why should I have to?

Kindofcrunchy · 19/07/2022 14:05

I've just seen a (very well endowed) woman at the zoo in just a fluorescent bra and hotpants. With her young kids. Some people, if anything, are taking "summer clothes" too far 😂

mibbelucieachwell · 19/07/2022 14:07

nca I'm so sorry you have extensive scarring on your legs. And I misread your post about the temp where you are. Wouldn't wide legged cotton or linen trousers be more comfortable than jeans though? I defy anyone to think jeans are cooler than trousers designed for hot weather.

FlumpyLump · 19/07/2022 14:07

As a plus size girl, I get heckled on a regular basis when out walking in gym bottoms and a t-shirt. I am certainly not going to give them any more ammo by exposing my flab even more.

I am extremely pale. My mother is a red head so I got her skin tone. I have to cover up. I was out for 30 minutes in 26 degree heat the other day and anywhere that wasn't covered burnt badly and caused very obvious t shirt lines.

And just to add, there is currently a cost of living crisis. Not everyone can afford a summer wardrobe. I certainly can't.

I treated myself the other day to a pair of jeggings that cost £12.50 in Asda. I almost put them back because I wasn't sure if I could afford them.
I had to get them in the end because my current sole pair of jeans had holes in the crotch where I have had to wear them non stop through not being able to afford any more.

I also felt like I didn't want to embarrass and humiliate myself when they eventually gave way and exposed my lily white chunky butt.

I'm pretty sure others wouldn't want to see that either.

I have sensory issues with things touching my skin and the feeling of "brushing" against it. It's why I don't like the breeze on my skin.

I wear skinny or straight leg jeans so that I don't get that feeling.

Meraas · 19/07/2022 14:13

@SlashBeef

Because brown and black people don't comment on white skin being pasty or whatever and you know it.

Argue amongst yourselves but don't bring us into your fights.

Once again, who is "us"? Get out of here with your racist assumptions.

RoseDog · 19/07/2022 14:14

I'm wearing jeans today in Scotland, was hotter yesterday and I had shorts on, I've just put a cardie on as it's airy.

CheeseandBeetrootSandwiches · 19/07/2022 14:19

I have to wear trousers at work. It's a safety critical thing. Just lijecI have to wear a hivis vest and heavy boots. C'est la vie. We don't all work in air conditioned offices you know.

SexyLittleNosferatu · 19/07/2022 11:01

What does this mean?

That not everybody is comfortable walking around with half their arse hanging out because is hot?

Personally I find it odd that someone feels judgmental of people wearing a pair of jeans.

girlmom21 · 19/07/2022 14:28

nca · 19/07/2022 14:04

@girlmom21 I don't want to take them out.

Why should I have to?

I didn't say you should have to. Clearly you wanted to previously and I was just saying I hope that bad experience wouldn't prevent you if you wanted to in future.

Mummyof287 · 19/07/2022 14:29

I often think the same OP....I get not everyone wants to show off alot of flesh, but at least a loose thin shirt and some thin linen trousers/cropped leggings would surely be more comfortable and cool!

DH said he wore jeans in summer before we met and I 'introduced' him to shorts! 🤣 Now he wonders how on earth he wore jeans! He did say he used to be self conscious about 'getting his legs out' though, and as a self conscious 14yo with prudish parents ( I wasn't 'big' as such but was stockier and heavier than my peers) on a walking holiday in the Yorkshire moors refused to take my denim jacket off the whole time, as I was embarassed about my upper arms.I also refused to go swimming with the group due to lack of body confidence, and pretended I was on my period! It was sad really.Luckily I've become alot more comfortable in my own skin now 20 years later.

Lots of scars here too. I have had people comment on them too many times for me to feel comfortable having my arms and legs on show.

Sofedupofitall · 19/07/2022 14:29

Being overweight (size 16 at only 5ft 3) it’s taken me ages to gear up and wear shorts. In the end I thought ‘sod it’ but I can see that some people aren’t comfortable doing that.

Grissini50 · 19/07/2022 14:34

When I was 15 I took jeans (and only jeans) on a school trip to Egypt and Greece and Israel. The boat sank so I will never know how hot I would have been, but I was far too self-conscious for shorts or anything even slightly revealing.
Having said that DH & I did chuckle to ourselves seeing our neighbour wearing a device with two fans on it around his neck while simultaneously being outside in this heat in jeans and a jumper. That didn't seem to make much sense.

You are likely feeling hotter than them due to your concern about what they are wearing!

Mittens1717 · 19/07/2022 14:47

I live in my jeans hail rain or shine, I dont own any shorts or light trousers at all, I do have a couple of summer dresses but I very rarely get them out as I live in Ireland and it's basically never that hot, I'm a pretty cold person anyway so love my jeans

Was that the Jupiter? I remember that vividly, as I'm just a wee bit older and got ferries relatively regularly (lived on an island). I can't imagine how traumatic that must have been for you.
