Wearing jeans in this weather

Why are people still not wearing summer clothes in this weather?
How hot does it need to be before people get their summer wear out?
If they go abroad would they pack winter wear.
Aren't they hot being overdressed in this weather.
Fgs get your summer clothing out. It's crazy.

I don't find wearing shorts any cooler than jeans.
iWork from home, when I'm not working, I'm often in the garden, covered legs = less bites/ bramble tags or stings.
I love the heat, I don't find this weather irksome.
I hate suncream so prefer cotton clothing, being covered doesn't = being hot.
I'm currently having a quick coffee break before back to more online meetings, and I'm actually cold!

XenoBitch · 19/07/2022 10:56

YABVU it is none of your business.

Loics · 19/07/2022 10:58

They could be on their way to an air conditioned office? I'm wearing joggers round the house because the air con has made it slightly chilly, but the alternative is a very hot house!
I don't much like feet, so I'd probably rather see closed shoes on people than feet on display (although I don't get worked up by sandals!).

Ponoka7 · 19/07/2022 10:58

My DD, 26 went shopping in gym leggings. She's a six, is going to the gym later and doesn't seem to feel the heat. But you'd must be a bit dense to not have thought of all of the reasons listed here.

TheOGCCL · 19/07/2022 10:58

This happens all year round though. When the weather is a bit changeable you see people wearing say a very flimsy outfit which was fine the day before but not the next day. I think they just like to keep things simple. I envy it really as I have far too many clothes. I also think some people do not check the weather forecast before they leave the house.

Personally I think being hot is partly a psychological thing - I think you can wear jeans in extreme heat. I often wear cardigans and I don't think I'm any hotter after a certain temperature.

Some people also want to keep covered up and find jeans very practical. In my mind there are two camps of people - those who love wearing jeans, wear them a lot, have lots of pairs, and who generally look good in them, and those who always struggle to find a pair, don't find them comfortable, wonder why everyone else seems to love them and eventually realise they are better off in dresses. If you're the former, then why not keep wearing your beloved jeans. Jeans come in a lot of different fabrics, I have different ones for different seasons.

GaspingGekko · 19/07/2022 10:59

I'm wearing jeans because the weather here is a little cooler than what I'm used to where I live.

There are so many reasons why people might be wearing them and honestly this hysteria around the weather is not healthy. Yes it's hot, yes the UK is not geared up to it and yes you aren't used to it. But just get on with keeping yourself comfortable and stop worrying about other people.

Maybe they dress for the body they have not the body they want?

What does this mean?

MissMaple82 · 19/07/2022 11:02

Literally could be any number of reasons, what does it matter to you! When will people just mind their business in such things as this..

dottypotter · 19/07/2022 11:03

Totally agree, bonkers in this heat. You have summer clothes and winter clothes. Kids have summer uniform and winter uniform for school.

Must be so hot and smelly.

chipsandpeas · 19/07/2022 11:04

why does it matter what other people wear

FlatWhiteLover · 19/07/2022 11:05

I flatted with an Australian years ago and she had never worn shorts as a teenager / young adult in Aus. This is because she was so body concious that she would rather sweat her arse off, its her body her choice, she was more comfortable covering up and you cant argue with that.

Somanysocks · 19/07/2022 11:06

Apart from the reason my legs need protecting for my job, at the moment they are bruised and scratched and don't want to show them off.

BanditOne · 19/07/2022 11:07

I often wear jeans if I go out when it's hot and sunny because I've had a melanoma on my shin .

girlmom21 · 19/07/2022 11:12

They're wearing what they're comfortable in.

I wore black jeans and a long sleeved blouse to work yesterday because the office is air conditioned. I then walked through the town in my lunch break. Shock horror - I was comfortable enough.

GroggyLegs · 19/07/2022 10:47

I can remember being an overweight teen & still squeezing into jeans because I'd rather melt than show my legs 😔

I now wear the damn shorts.

I wasn’t an overweight teen, but as a teen I still wore jeans in the summer as I was so self conscious. Like you, I don’t care now and my legs were far better 30 years ago than they are now!

As I took ds to school this morning, I noticed that a lot of the girls are still wearing thick tights with their school skirts, they could wear socks, but for their own reasons are choosing not too (their reasons, I imagine, will be similar to the reasons I argued about the same issue with dm all those years ago). On the school fb group parents are going mad that the school won’t allow PE kits, but if the girls won’t go without tights, they aren’t going to wear pe shorts so would be no better off as they’d be in leggings.

so many reasons people are in long trousers though.

What about your spring and autumn clothes?

Soubriquet · 19/07/2022 11:13

Pearmain · 19/07/2022 10:44

Wow. Maybe they can’t afford any?

That’s me.

I have a pair of leggings that I have to wear in summer AND winter. It’s all I have that fits and I cannot afford anything else right now

MyDogsTheBestDog · 19/07/2022 11:13

I wear jeans all year round. Does that upset you?!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/07/2022 11:17

Somanysocks · 19/07/2022 11:06

I'm intrigued, do you work with wildcats? Grin

Probably not relevant here, but I went to Lesotho a while ago during their winter season. DH and I were in shorts but pretty much everyone who lived there year round was bundled up in multiple layers.

AffableApple · 19/07/2022 11:18

AyeUpMeDuck · 19/07/2022 10:51

I'll wear what I like thanks.

Seeing all these filthy sweaty feet in flip flops and flimsy bits of cloth that the UV will burn through annoys me, but I wouldn't tell them to cover up and wear sturdy boots.

Seconded. The sticky noise of sweaty, stinky feet in flip flops. So gross. Yet I say nothing to these people either. Because it's none of my business.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/07/2022 11:19

This heatwave has brought out nearly as many busy bodies as the start of covid honestly

clpsmum · 19/07/2022 11:19

I've put on weight and can't afford to buy new clothes. Sorry this offends you!

HappyToSmile · 19/07/2022 11:25

Who is everyone else to judge?
It takes an awful lot for me to wear shorts, simply because I hate my legs that much. Are Jeans hot and uncomfortable in this weather? Yes, of couese, but possibly more comfortable than wearing shorts would make me feel!

Waterfool · 19/07/2022 11:25

Has the heat got to you OP? Do you need to drink a bit more water? What an insane post!!

people in other countries wear jeans in this heat regularly and cope just fine. My husband is out today in a black T shirt black trousers with knee pads steel cap boots because that’s his uniform and it’s health and safety. I’m sure he will survive…

IllDoItButOnlyForTheAttention · 19/07/2022 11:27

Well, A, why do you care, as others have said.

And B, there are lots of different kinds of jeans. I nipped out this AM in loose, lightweight jeans, a vest top and closed-toe soft leather flats. That's fine for me for a quick walk out to the shops. I'm going on hols soon and don't want to have to wash and dry my holiday clothes before I go, so they aren't getting worn.
