Following on from my patio egg experiment. I have set up this thread ready for us all to take part in on 19th July.

Pick your surface and splat your egg between 10am - 6pm.

Let's do our egg science and save humanity.

I will be setting up my egg out front (as it is hotter than my back garden) on foil tomorrow.

2 hours and it's solid.

Well I've put the egg in the pan but managed to break the yolk. My phone seems to be hiding the pics I took.

Wonder if I could cook some bacon 🥓

3.5hrs in and yolk exploded due to heat on grass

and patio the white has gone crispy. As someone said maybe as heat is above and not under egg

This was ours after an hour. Dried egg rather than fried egg. I think we should have let the frying pan heat up for longer before putting the egg in.

2 hours and the yolk is fully cooked but white isn't quite there yet

I'm out. The sun has gone away, it picked to rain and there's thunder. It's still 29° so not even cooler ffs the egg yolk was indeed prodable on top but due to weather our foil/oil/ramekin test has been cancelled. And, I posted about my weird egg on the wrong thread so I look like an absolute weirdo.

@Natsku that is superb! What's the temp?

38 according to according to my phone, 35 in the shade now according to thermometer and over 50 in direct sun according to the same when I moved it next to the eggs

After 2 hrs 30. Mostly cooked but I don't think I'll be tucking in.

It doesn't look much different but is much firmer. The yolk is completely cooked. Just waiting for the white now.

Yolk has exploded and the white is starting to cook from the bottom of the pan. Been cooking for 50 mins now

In the interest of science, can someone who is somewhere that isn't hot and sunny stick an egg outside as well? We need a control egg...

7 mins in the solar oven and it’s looking good, an egg ring would have been good to keep it in the middle.

We've put ours out. My 14yr old is theorising based on your photos that water is evaporating faster by the sun than the protein is cooking !

My egg looks the same, but the yolk has gone hard. White has not cooked at all, only dried out a little.

Mine has taken on the consistency of a jellied egg.

Or a clotted egg. Appetising.

The closest I can describe it is that it seems to have scabbed over.

39 degrees here, and just remembered to join in! The egg was going to end up in the bin anyway as it was cracked in the box so it now has a purpose.

My yolk had gone hard. Went on the school run and came home to a seagull eating it 🤢
