To not understand the constant panic

I'm finding it so incredulous to see the level of panic and hysteria on here about a 2 day heatwave.
Posters seem to be hyping each other up. Can humans no longer cope with anything outside of their comfort zone?

No! I hate the heat and 37 degree weather is way too much for me.

Im really going to struggle and I suffer badly

alphapie · 15/07/2022 17:44

YANBU

I've nearly dislocated my retinas going through some of these 'my poor darling couldn't possibly cope in such hot weather camping, at an end of year theme park trip, at school'

ElizaJones · 15/07/2022 17:44

Who’s panicking?

girlfriend44 · 15/07/2022 17:45

It's bloody patronising I was just going to say the same.

Everyone sending warnings about what to do and how to act.

FgS patronising as if we don't know.
It's Summer we have lived through quite a few.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/07/2022 17:45

Probably going to get flamed - but I agree with you. It’s just 2 days that with minimal effort, can be dealt with. But no doubt the papers will be full of people cooking themselves in suntan lotion on a beach by Wednesday.

Eatthecake80 · 15/07/2022 17:45

I could understand if it was for a prolonged period but it’s only 2 days then it’s rain an crap weather again!

Eatthecake80 · 15/07/2022 17:46

Up north anyway

FourEyesGood · 15/07/2022 17:46

I’d imagine that it’s fine if you and everyone in your family is neurotypical, and you work in an air-conditioned office (or don’t have to go to work).

I’d also imagine that it can’t be too difficult for you to stretch your thoughts a little further to consider that perhaps it will be horrendous (and dangerous, even potentially lethal) for quite a few people.

Who’s panicking?

These people for one - To think people don’t seem to understand how hot it is predicted to be next week? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4589807-to-think-people-dont-seem-to-understand-how-hot-it-is-predicted-to-be-next-week

Blueberrycreampie · 15/07/2022 17:47

Well I'm dreading it as I hate the extreme temperatures (why oh why did I move to the far south east of England from Scotland)? But for many, especially the elderly and those with some illnesses it could be dangerous if they cant keep cool enough and pets need to be kept cool as well. Everyone needs to take care!

KangarooKenny · 15/07/2022 17:47

Too hot for me, but I’ll be staying inside with a wet flannel on my face. No need for hysteria.

newbiename · 15/07/2022 17:47

Who’s panicking?

There's a few threads about it.

luxxlisbon · 15/07/2022 17:47

YANBU. It’s will be hot but its 2 days.

Im sure the majority of the people panicking and complaining go to the continent for sun on their holidays too.

newbiename · 15/07/2022 17:47

YANBU it's ridiculous

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 15/07/2022 17:48

Who is in a state of constant panic? I haven't had a single RL conversation about the possible high temps, my life will be carrying on as normal.

PizzaPatel · 15/07/2022 17:48

I’d normally agree with you but my baby is so brand new I am a bit worried to be honest. Not just from a health perspective but wondering how I’ll entertain the older one at home as well as the newborn when our go to survival strategy is to get out of the house

I'm autistic and it's a sensory nightmare for me. I haven't been hysterical but this weather doesn't come without risk so it's not too strange to see others being concerned.

Im dreading it because I genuinely can't cope with anything outside of my comfort zone. It removes all my 'usual' abilities and makes the most basic tasks so much harder.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 15/07/2022 17:49

It's two days when some people will ignore all warnings and will do themselves harm. Some more vulnerable will die.

The only reason you know how people feel about it is SM. We can all safely have a good panic.

But many of us are using the warnings. Making alternative arrangements for pets; ensuring lots of water, floppy hats etc; changing appointments so we're not stuck waiting for people to turn up. Is that panicking too?

SunnyKlara · 15/07/2022 17:50

It's like people can't deal with discomfort anymore, as though they think life should be predominantly comfortable.

But life has never been that for any generation, and is much much more comfortable as a whole than ever before. Yes, it'll be too hot. But for the majority, that will be it and drinking enough water will be sufficient to keep healthy.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 15/07/2022 17:51

Yanbu. There's far too many snowflakes nowadays!!

RoseAndRose · 15/07/2022 17:51

First time ever that there's been a threat-to-life warning from heat (not just for the vulnerable) and according to Met Office spokesman this morning a 50/50 chance of seeing 40 in places.

It's unprecedented, and is the sort of dangerous weather that should be respected

Wizzbangfizz · 15/07/2022 17:52

It is absolutely pathetic IMO, but then these boards are prone to hysteria (Covid being a prime example of peak hysteria). It is summer - it is hot as it should be.

Panicnomore · 15/07/2022 17:53

I'm just shocked at how utterly unresiliant we have become or how terrified of life certain people are. It's hardly surprising so many kids have anxiety issues these days.
It must be taught behaviour from parents surely.

Well it only been 18 up North for the last few days, anyway I will believe it when I feel it.

Womenandwomenfirst · 15/07/2022 17:55

I snorted when I read on the other thread that people need a “safe space” Confused

I have experienced some very, very hot places. And no air conditioning. It’s unpleasant, but sufferable if you behave sensibly.

anyway, the heatwave won’t last long as I’ve bough the dog a cooling mat….
