To not understand the constant panic

I'm finding it so incredulous to see the level of panic and hysteria on here about a 2 day heatwave.
Posters seem to be hyping each other up. Can humans no longer cope with anything outside of their comfort zone?

Nobody is suggesting it's all one big laugh but it is 2 days not 2 months.

justagirlstandinginfrontofcake · 15/07/2022 18:54

What you should have done is start a new thread to add to it..

Oh.

Panicnomore · 15/07/2022 18:55

@Daftasabroom judging by some of the venom on this thread already I would say we are already screwed. It this how people are going to react every summer.....

Or wait what if the next 40c happens in 3 weeks and 3 weeks after that. Will people still be demanding schools and work places to close every time. This is the UK reality now.

I'm not hysterical, but I'm also really not looking forward to it either, we absolutely hate the heat in the house, so it will be a really moany miserable few days in our house.

We are lucky we are in the north east, so we are only expecting around 34, but even that's too much for us. I do feel for people in London where it is expected to hit 40 imagine having to use a tube in that heat 🥵

Clarabe1 · 15/07/2022 18:56

I can’t say I am looking forward to it but Christ almighty people get a grip! Most of us have been on holiday when it’s reached 30- 40 degrees. It’s going be uncomfortable but we will survive. Have a solero and shut the fuck up.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/07/2022 18:53

I bought two boxes of ice-lollies in Aldi.

You devil 👿 😂

RoseAndRose · 15/07/2022 17:51

First time ever that there's been a threat-to-life warning from heat (not just for the vulnerable) and according to Met Office spokesman this morning a 50/50 chance of seeing 40 in places.

It's unprecedented, and is the sort of dangerous weather that should be respected

This.

Whilst I am not personally panicking (I have measures in place) I don't think the met office issues these warnings in a deliberate attempt to be goady and dramatic. It is unprecedented and there will be people who suffer (heatstroke etc) because of it.

SueSaid · 15/07/2022 18:57

I'm just surprised no one has blamed Boris Johnson, surely it's his fault for not issuing folk with AC to get them through the hellish 2 days.

AhaLyn · 15/07/2022 18:58

How is it media hysteria? It’s a warning from the met office. What’s with the weird smugness? We get it, if it dies not affect you and you’re not arsed then carry on. It will affect some infrastructure and some people will need the heads up to stay in. There, not hard is it. Calm your tits.

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2022 18:58

It is different on holiday usually isn't it?
Air con, pools , cocktails, big umbrellas and shade ( if your lucky )
I still moan though.

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2022 18:59

I just saw sky news with medics running into a hot beach to see to someone suffering with heat stroke.

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2022 19:00

Posted too soon
Onto the beach rather
Why cant people be a bit more cautious?

'I'm just shocked at how utterly unresiliant we have become or how terrified of life certain people are. It's hardly surprising so many kids have anxiety issues these days. It must be taught behaviour from parents surely.'

Yes it's all a bit crazy isn't it. I'm just waiting for the media to utter the dreaded 'possible water shortage' warnings and we'll have folk queuing round Tescos carpark for bottler water.

It's going to be hot for a couple of days so stay indoors, in the shade, drink plenty then be ready to complain about the crap weather the week after Grin.

I've just been to waitrose. Saw a couple with one of the large trolley's totally rammed with bottles of water. It did make me do a double take and at the time I just thought they wanted a lot of water (but it did look very odd).. Now I am beginning to wonder if it was panic water buying.

FeliciaFancybottom · 15/07/2022 19:01

Heatwave hysteria is the new nuclear war hysteria that was rife earlier this year!

Lockheart · 15/07/2022 19:01

I think you're confusing "constant panic" with "temporary concern".

But it's just not as hyperbolic is it.

SueSaid · 15/07/2022 19:01

'How is it media hysteria?'

We used to get big sun icons on the weather forecast, looked cheery and summery however the last couple of days we've gone back to the covid shades of doom on maps to show the worst affected. It scares people. We all know Mon and Tues will be roasting but it really isn't like a deadly disease about to wipe us out.

God, now it's a 'national emergency'. I bet Europe are pissing themselves laughing at us.

Buythebag40 · 15/07/2022 19:01

Have a solero and shut the fuck up

This is going to be my catchphrase from now on 😂

LightSpeeds · 15/07/2022 19:02

Lots of people have reasons to be concerned, either for themselves, their families or people they know or work with (or for the NHS that's already on its knees and doesn't need an influx of ill people over the next few days).

It sounds like some of the posters here either aren't aware of or don't give a sh*t about any of this.

Don't worry, everyone will be back to panicking over COVID and the war in Ukraine by Tuesday.

I think it’s Wednesday ;

and add cost of living crisis

Mamansparkles · 15/07/2022 19:02

The 'venom as you call it is because you are belittling people who are worried and/or just taking sensible precautions.
Great for you that you aren't vulnerable or have to work outside in the hottest conditions. But lots of people aren't that lucky and they are allowed to be worried and share tips for keeping cool - it's actually recommended. There is a heat warning in place that reminds us to be sensible and concerned because there is a real risk to life.
If you can't cope with vulnerable people discussing how they are going to keep themselves or family members out of hospital, then don't click on the threads.
If you had a health condition that meant you had been told 'real risk of death for you next week, and by the way no ambulance available and no hospital beds' you might be panicking too. Get some empathy.

Have most of us tried to work or, I dunno, deal with weather hot enough to melt roads with the aid of ice lollies alone?

If you can't grasp that this is an event that requires a bit of planning and people not being twats about it then that is on you.

Always the same when weather warnings are issued. Sure, it might not effect you personally but they aren't issued for shits and giggles. If you live up a hill you might not worry about flooding but you'd be a bit of a dick to bemoan the people down in the valley being issued warnings and getting the sandbags in.

ferneytorro · 15/07/2022 19:02

Thank goodness for this thread - the hysteria was driving me mad. My daughter is at a school commemorative event on Monday and they've said they may allow them to take their blazers off !

Fingeronthebutton · 15/07/2022 19:02

It’s all come from The office of nudges the same one that nudged you into being terrified of hugging your granny.
This campaign is all to do with Net Zero targets.

User5386509 · 15/07/2022 19:03

Thank goodness Boris isn't proper PM anymore or we might have got a press conference or a Boris announcement

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2022 19:04

I doubt they would do this if it wasn't important though to be fair
If they didn't tell us people would moan they didn't know about what to do.

You can't win really
